Video: Star Trek XI Teaser

posted at 7:23 pm on January 18, 2008 by Bryan

Some enterprising soul managed to capture this when it played in front of Cloverfield today. Bless ‘em. And for a Star Trek film it looks…cool.

I’m sure I’ll get over that once I see the actual film.

The grittiness in what little you can see suggests that the Trek producers may have learned a thing or two from Serenity/Firefly. That would be a good direction to go in.

Blowback

Meh, I’ve yet to see anything from J.J. Abrahms that I’ve liked so I’ll most likely be giving this movie a pass.

Please don’t suck like the last, um…several.

Loved Trek and B5 both.

Susan Ivanova rocked, and wow Marcus Cole smokin’.
Garibaldi’s poster of Daffy Duck in his quarters was a riot.

B5 kept me on the edge of my seat every episode.

Trek needs a Kosh character.

I guess the whole Matt Damon thing fell through.

What? Actual living beings building the Enterprise? Don’t they have construction droids? So I guess Star Fleet is just another government jobs program. Haha.

You are all missing the point. All of those series had their great as well as their weak moments.

The best Starship in all of science fiction was the Space Ball I

Why do some of your pretty ships look like they would run on batteries?

Kini on January 18, 2008 at 10:51 PM

Because they do.

With all of the really cool designs over the years (C-57, Discovery 1, Valley Forge, The movie Enterprise…) you pick Megamaid?

Eye of the beholder and all that…I guess.

Thanks for posting this Bryan.

I just showed it to my 12-year old son – he’s recently become a huge Star Trek fan; started w/TIVOing Enterprise then Generations and working his way through the all the series and movies as they come on. Needless to say he’s totally jazzed as any 12-year old, Halo 3 playing, Riddick & Pitch Black watching, Star Trek TIVOing, basic sci-fi fan should be.

Look at the guy’s face working on the Enterprise. he looks computer generated.

What, no comments or posts about the new Terminator series on Fox? Check it out. You can catch up on the first two episodes online. It’s pretty good.

There is a character on imdb “George Kirk”. That was the brother of James T I think.

I am a geek.

CrimsonFisted

Actually, I can geek up a couple levels. George Kirk is James Kirk’s father, who appeared in the novel “Enterprise,” had to be at least 15-20 years ago. He went out on one of the original missions as chief of security.

Top that geekdom! :)

Cozmo- I did not see the sailing ship Enterprise among that specific set. Did I overlook it?

I agree w/ya on the Terminator series. I expected it to be really cheesy but we got a charge out of both episodes and looking forward to more!

Dang, I thought I had to much information on ships named Enterprise.

As far as I remember, there were four memorable sailing ships named Enterprise; An HMS, a USS, a privateer and an America’s cup racer. In the scale I built them in, 1/2500, they would be just too small to adequately represent.
The orbiter and blimp are each less than 3/4 of an inch long.

Don’t get too excited, I understand Spock is the fifth Cylon….

AZ_Mike on January 20, 2008 at 2:07 PM

I have lots of problems with the new movie and the characters all knowing or being in Star Fleet Academy together. Spock served on the Enterprise with Captain Pike and didn’t know Kirk. The doctor wasn’t the one we know as “Bones” when Kirk first took command of the Enterprise. I also believe Scott was not the engineer when Kirk took command. Then there is Checkof who joined the crew well after Kirk was in command. Kirk even commented how young Checkof was and wondered if he’d ever been that young. All in all it looks like they are rewriting the history of Trek with this one. Fans helped tank Enterprise because of how it was rewriting Trek history and I can’t wait for the fireworks on this one.

The grittiness in what little you can see suggests that the Trek producers may have learned

Like Firefly? Want to fly Senerity? You can if you get the freely avaliable Orbiter Space Simulator. It’s a very good orbital dynamics simulator that the user base has taken into the Scifi realm with add-on space ships. The Firefly just happens to be one of the add-on ships and it’s complete with shuttles and vectored thrust. Not easy to fly but a lot of fun.

You can see it at the official website as well. Not bootleg, much bigger, and a whole lot cleaner.

Looks awesome! Hope it doesn’t suck…
