This is simply the year of identity politics. It’s frustrating to watch the conservative ship go down but as Rush says, the price of ignorance is a high one. I’ll be voting for Fred at the county convention here in Nevada so don’t blame me. :-)

Not sure who said it but “we get the Government we deserve” and so it seems to be the case with the Republican Party. We had two or three very good Conservative candidates.. and for some reason we seemed too eager to abandon them from the beginning. Starting with Alan Keyes, Duncan Hunter and now Fred Thompson. To put any of the other Rinos up will be a sure loss for the GOP and I for one will NOT go thru the next 4 or 8 years frustrated because I voted for someone the MSM picked for Me. God says he would “put a strong delusion” over many and I’m starting to think thats what is occuring this election. If McCain, Romney, Rudy or Huckabee becomes the Nominee .. I have no doubt the GOP will be finished..Humiliated and unable to trust their government and Party any longer. The election turn out on our side will nosedive if a true Conservative like Fred is tossed aside. Many I know will NOT show up to vote just to get another RINO in the WH. What does it matter really..You know what McCain is capable of.. and Rudy, and Huck and Mitt,who all one has to do is look at YOUTUBE a few years back and witness the 180 degree turnaround on almost all major issues. I dont know what you Political junkies expect Fred to do… Not be himself.. act like he can’t go on if he doesnt win this state or that one? Like I said, you get the govt you deserve… enjoy. As for me.. I prefer to be able to live with myself.. and know I didn’t compromise. If youre a Conservative, then vote for Fred, if not, you’d best be prepared for Hillary in 2008.

Voting machine problems reported in one South Carolina county
Posted: 11:15 AM ET

Poll workers in Horry County tell CNN voting machines have been down since polls opened Saturday morning throughout the county — the machines are not reading an activation card.

Three poll workers also tell CNN the county has about 100 precincts and all have been affected. CNN is awaiting a call back from the county’s election supervisor.

At this point, anyone who tries to sell someone else on “conventional wisdom” or “since 1980 the winner of SC has done this or that” as the basis for switching votes on anything other than personal principles either isn’t being honest or is a complete moron.

The fact is, we have an entirely different animal in the primary process this time around. There is no precedent, no conventional wisdom, and it’s asinine for anyone (particularly in the wide-open GOP) for anyone to buy into the notion that any candidate is truly “out of it” after SC, or Florida for that matter.

I’m praying that Fred won’t give in no matter what. He now has enough cash to play well through Feb 5 and he appears intent on staying in at least through Florida based on the appeal currently posted at fred08.com.

I first suspected we’d be looking at a brokered convention when the states started messing with the primary dates. Every day it becomes more likely. And, in a brokered convention in which people actually have to think, I believe it plays to Fred’s strengths.

Since last Spring it’s been like pushing water up a mountain with a rope. I like his politics but I just can’t get behind someone that won’t even fix an obviously flawed campaign. If Fred would have had the seeds to harness Jeri and set up a real campaign, it surely would have changed my view of him.

Many complained when candidates started campaigning with almost two years until the general election to go. But now, anyone who didn’t campaign that long is accused of jumping in with “too-little, too-late”.

Why is Bloomberg considering a run now? Because coming in later has advantages of its own. Again, Fred is doing things the way I think they should be done, at the time he should be doing them. We’ll see if the strategy is effective, but calling it ineffective before the results are in is fickle or disingenuous.

If your only complaint about Fred (if you really do support him) is the way he’s run his campaign, you’re fickle not to vote for him. If you really support someone else, then you’re disingenuous. If you vote for him despite disliking his campaign strategy, you’re a conscientious voter. Which is it?
