Quote of the day
posted at 10:58 pm on January 18, 2008 by Bryan
Long story short, [Grodner] has to pay $600 to a Semper Fi Fund (Marine [Corps] fund for the wounded) and he has to report for Social Services probation once per month for a year. Judge told him if he screws up and misses any he will be arrested and will serve 364 days in jail! He told Grodner that the reason the courtroom was so full was because Sgt. McNulty belongs to The Band of Brothers and this is what he can expect when he mistreats a Marine (not his exact words but the same meaning)…
He really admonished him and the part I really liked was when the judge made Grodner admit he keyed Sgt. McNulty’s car. He also explained to him about military plates and how people pay extra because the monies go into a fund for scholarships. I cried but they were tears of joy!!!!!!!!!!!
Sgt. McNulty’s damages were $2400 but his car is fixed and just like The Band of Brothers, he asks that this creep give $600 to a fund for his Brothers. God Bless The Band of Brothers. This is a story the whole world should read about.

Should have made him admit he was a lawyer too.

Awesome! I was wondering what happened in this case.
RightWinged on January 18, 2008 at 11:03 PM
Did he look any of the Marines in the eye?
geckomon on January 18, 2008 at 11:08 PM
He’s not worthy.
SouthernGent on January 18, 2008 at 11:10 PM
Happy as I am at the outcome, the problem remains. It is practically popular to hate our military lately. You can bet if anyone keys my car just to thumb their nose at the military that I’ll be looking for a LOT more than just compensation. EMPTY THREATS!!!
blankminde on January 18, 2008 at 11:11 PM
Considering the contempt he showed for our Heroes, the legal system, and that judge in particular, lying liberal lawyer Grodner, head of his own law firm, got off waaaay easy. Let’s see if he serves the jail time when he doesn’t show for his Social Services probation. I’d bet against it.
DannoJyd on January 18, 2008 at 11:17 PM
Great news.
I’m betting he crawled out!
MITX on January 18, 2008 at 11:26 PM
I would have liked to see him get community service in a VA hospital or some other place where he would have to deal with the people he hates but, frankly, the Vets deserve better than to be exposed to scummy lawyers like this.
highhopes on January 18, 2008 at 11:26 PM
He should have been disbarred. He should have been forced to give up his law license.
Kini on January 18, 2008 at 11:28 PM
From MM’s link to Blackfive. Even the judge was a marine. He was surrounded.

Good. He’s not worthy of licking our men and women’s boots.

Should have been at least the amount of the damages. but it’s good to see justice served.
Canadian Imperialist Running Dog on January 18, 2008 at 11:44 PM
Good on him! He’s lucky Marines aren’t a bunch of warmongering thugs (as he believes) because he would have gotten his a%^ kicked right off the bat.
“Band of Brothers”, indeed.
mjk on January 18, 2008 at 11:51 PM
So it turns out the presiding Judge, Judge William O’Malley, was a Lance Corporal in the 1960s, and known for wearing a Marine Corps pin on his lapel.
Ha!
amerpundit on January 18, 2008 at 11:52 PM
Justice is a crapshoot in this country, but this guy won the jackpot…for patriotic Americans!
RushBaby on January 18, 2008 at 11:56 PM
I would have liked the ending better if the JarHead hadda just whoop the everlovin’ sh/t outa that guy. and kept the paint the way it was so he could tell the story when he was drinkin’ beer with his hootch mates.
TheSitRep on January 18, 2008 at 11:58 PM
Great story.
p0s3r on January 19, 2008 at 12:00 AM
That’s great! I know that the state law board has also been contacted by quite a few irate people over this incidence, so he might face disciplinary action from them as well. But at least this resolution came about. Good luck during your deployment Sgt. McNulty!
Luckedout on January 19, 2008 at 12:00 AM
This is the kind of ending I like.
Bob's Kid on January 19, 2008 at 12:08 AM
The MSM would have twisted such a story around and fit it into the “stupid-brutal” GI narrative as they have for those other few who have been accused/convicted of crimes (NYT and that Marine who is accused of raping and murdering that other Marine). McNulty’s way was much smarter and probably turned out better in the long run than the a**-whuppin’ solution would have.
baldilocks on January 19, 2008 at 12:10 AM
It would have been fun to see Grodner’s face when he stepped into the Marine-filled courtroom today.
baldilocks on January 19, 2008 at 12:12 AM
Oh I see what you are saying. but in my fantasy no one knows but the devil dog and the Lawyer. Because he knew if he ever so much as mentioned it …….
TheSitRep on January 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
That damn fool lawyer would have been surrounded with only McNulty in the room.

Oh, that’s just awesome!
TX Mom on January 19, 2008 at 12:22 AM
At the link to MM’s post on this, the jagweed showed up late again, and the judge had him taken out and cuffed. Unless I missed something, this is the second time he arrogantly decided to show up to court, uh, whenever.
I bet this tool does the same thing with his Social Services probation….if he shows at all.
91Veteran on January 19, 2008 at 12:23 AM
That is just kick ass! Every once in a while there is still real justice in this country.
conservnut on January 19, 2008 at 12:40 AM
And the *ONLY* reason this happened is because of the efforts of Matt Burden at Blackfive, who started this all in motion.
Michael in MI on January 19, 2008 at 1:05 AM
My point exactly!
I’ve been following this story so I know many of the facts not reported here. I even posted a bit at the site I blog[?] at earlier this month. This guy is a typical obnoxious Illinois liberal who, like all true liberals, believes he doesn’t have to accept responsibility for his actions, and can do as he pleases any time he wishes to. Keying a persons car … Just how infantile can a grown man[?] get? Sheesh already!
DannoJyd on January 19, 2008 at 1:25 AM
Thanks for pointing that out. That’s where I originally read the story, from a link at LGF, if I recall correctly.
RushBaby on January 19, 2008 at 1:45 AM
Scumbag.
Waste of skin.
I’m glad the judge didn’t completely go soft on him, but he still should have had to pay the $2400 in damages, as well as the $600.
There’s a special circle in hell waiting for him.
Hawkins1701 on January 19, 2008 at 3:24 AM
I don’t check in here much these days … but its stories like this that remind me why I did.
You’re the best, Bryan. Semper Fi.
Professor Blather on January 19, 2008 at 3:48 AM
He causes $2,400 in damage, and they only make him pay $600? Talk about fuzzy math.

Wow, what a great story. Somehow I managed to miss all except the happy ending. I hope Grodner feels the repercussions from this for a long time.

I bet he’s the toast of his anti-military, anti-America pals.
thekingtut on January 19, 2008 at 8:01 AM
I think this is the right tone, and I, too, wonder why he doesn’t get fined the $2400 — that could have gone into the fund, too.
Lastly, there’s a special circle waiting for him, alright … right here in Chicago.
Jaibones on January 19, 2008 at 8:25 AM
What a loser this jerk is.
I hope the Marine was happy with the outcome.
AZCoyote on January 19, 2008 at 8:32 AM
Some court-ordered counseling with a military psychologist might have been nice, too. Give the guy a glimpse into the work of others who try to help those who seem to thanklessly defend the rights of jerks like this to be jerks like this.
Captain Scarlet on January 19, 2008 at 8:42 AM
I love it! Things are looking up. The “dry cleaner pants” lawsuit ended with the judge being removed from the bench and now this.
There is justice in the world.
csdeven on January 19, 2008 at 9:11 AM
BTW, this Marines insurance company will go after the $hitbird lawyer for the damages to the Marines car. So not only will he have to do the community service, pay the $600, be exposed as the dirtbag he is, he will also end up paying the $2400! The scumbag lawyer would be able to get it covered by his insurance because he caused the damage in an illegal act.
Delicious shadenfreude!!
Where’s Entelechy when I need her?
csdeven on January 19, 2008 at 9:16 AM
He WONT be able to be covered by his insurance company.

Would have been funny as hell to see this asshole’s expression when he found out the judge was a Marine.
daveintexas on January 19, 2008 at 9:23 AM
My glee at the outcome of this case is restrained – in this topsy-turvy world, this may well be a career-booster for this dirtbag lawyer.

It’s always good when you read a story like this one in the morning. I’ll be smiling for the rest of the day.

With his rotten attitude those 364 days are a given.
Good riddance scumbag.
infidel4life on January 19, 2008 at 10:50 AM
Should have made him get down and do 100 push-ups, too.
And then pay a hundred bucks for each one he fell short.
profitsbeard on January 19, 2008 at 11:14 AM
Now that is some justice right there!
That judge reminds me of Ted Poe, who is now a US Congressman, here in the Houston area. Poe would often given a tongue lashing and some interesting sentences to the asshats that appeared before him.
SimplyKimberly on January 19, 2008 at 11:31 AM
Great story, Bryan, but I think the judge was actually lenient. A year or so locked up would have been even better justice in addition to his rulings. That would have sent a truly inclusive message about our men and women serving in foreign lands. But one must remember these lawyers (skilfull lier in Greek) are all in the ‘club’ together. They can’t be too harsh on each other.

Brotherly Love at it’s finest. God Bless America and God Bless the USMC.
Zorro on January 19, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Great story. I first heard about it right after I came back home from a visit with my parent’s in the Chicago area at Christmas. Had I known about it before I came home, I would have shown up at the first hearing, but alas… Anyway, I live in Illinois too and have military plates and a base sticker on my car (26 years Air Force and still serving, Bryan). To be fair, we don’t pay extra for the military plates as the observer said the judge pointed out. We pay the same $78 everyone else does. They used to be cheaper but were raised years ago. Maybe that’s the extra the observer says tyhe judge was talking about but I’m not aware if that’s the case. With that said, I’m glad that dirtbag lawyer got a little lesson in humility. God bless Sgt. McNulty and all those who put themselves in harms way for us.

Best news today. Take that, Grodner, you jacka$$.
tickleddragon on January 19, 2008 at 12:41 PM
One blog I read said that Sgt McNulty (thru the state attorney) asked that the “fine” be given to the Marine Fund.
Doesn’t surprise me as service members give in large numbers (read: $$) to help their own.
I also read somewhere (Blackfive maybe?) that the Marine could still take this guy to small claims court, that this was the criminal court and the civil case could be heard when the Sgt gets back.
Still, you gotta laugh at the a$$wipe; how much has he pissed off God that his case gets heard by a Marine judge!!!
mjtyson on January 19, 2008 at 3:16 PM
Let me clarify my last sentence…I mean God bless all those who actually do the fighting. Some of us that serve don’t get put in much danger simply because of our jobs (a jet mechanic deployed to two desert wars, myself). I’m grateful for those in ALL branches that volunteer to fight for us as a nation. We’re all the better because of them.
Big John on January 19, 2008 at 4:01 PM
The part I find most annoying is Grodner’s cowardice. He knew the Marine was restrained by honor, freeing Grodner to play the school-yard bully, when your average citizen would have responded to such taunting with violence.
But for Grodner to play the ‘victim’ card… to falsely accuse this honorable Marine of anti-semitism… well…
$600? No… not even close to enough.

Isn’t there somewhere on planet earth in which the law would sentence this guy to dismemberment of the “offending hand,” and maybe around 200 lashes, plus a few days, weeks, or months in jail?
William2006 on January 21, 2008 at 4:16 AM
Someone will write a “book” which will become a New York Times best seller on the “nonfiction” list, although it will likely be overflowing with fiction.
Then someone will make a movie, which Hollywood will nominate for an Academy Award. It will be a box office smash hit, portraying the Marine and his “Band of Brothers” as evil, sadistic, twisted, demented, cruel, vicious, sadistic, disrespectful Nazi-homophobic-misogynistic-obsessive, hatefilled type scum of the earth, and paint the thug lawyer as a saint, a martyr, and a poor victim of these malicious mental cases.
The movie will win the Academy Award, the lawyer will become a multimillionaire and a folk hero for the left, the fifth column in the USA, US hating Europeans, and Islamic Jihadis, all of whom will invite this lawyer as a $150,000 per appearance “speaker.”
His speaking circuit will including all left wing, communist, liberal universities and other leftist avenues, and he will be praised far and wide.
In a short time, he will run for office, be successfully elected into the House or Senate, and remain there for several consecutive terms of office.
He will be found committing numerous crimes, but will get a pass by the press who will see him as a hero of the cause who can do no harm, for he will be granted absolute moral authority.
In the meantime, the Marines will be disrespected, their name defamed, their person spat upon, their loved ones stalked and persecuted, mocked, harassed, and shunned.
This is the way of things in the USA, Europe, and elsewhere, in the year 2008.
Of course, I hope this does not happen, but this, or similar events, have occurred here, where bad behavior is rewarded, the perpetrator hoisted upon the shoulders of an adoring public, and the victims, and those who live laudable lives are marginalized, and even painted as non-persons to be scorned and denigrated.
William2006 on January 21, 2008 at 4:27 AM
It may seem he got off light, but the judge has him on a tight rope and as a lawyer me thinks his cohorts are shunning him.
But, let’s add to his sentence of having to pay $600 to a Marine Foundation that he watch the ‘Silent Marine’ add daily.
After a couple of weeks he’ll probably volunteer to repair the car he damaged himself or enlist in the Marines.
