How dumb was this remark?
”South Carolina people know true conservatism when they see it.You don’t like people outside the state telling you how you ought to raise your kids, you don’t like people from outside the state telling you what to do with the flag,” Huckabee said during a rally at a Myrtle beach airport hangar. “In fact, if somebody came down to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag, we’d tell’ em where to put the pole.”
Classy. It was about as dumb a remark as Huckabee could have made. No one was talking about the perennial Confederate flag issue in South Carolina; now everyone is. The Democrats will use it once again to tar Republicans as racists. It might even slow down the uncivil war in the Democrat race. And all even though the state’s legislature, now dominated by Republicans, voted overwhelmingly years ago to undo the state legislature’s 1962 vote, during a time when it was dominated by Democrats and the governor was a Democrat, to put the flag on top of the state’s capitol in the first place. It now flies only on a monument to Confederate war dead on the capitol grounds.
Thanks, Huck. At least he put himself on the wrong side of the issue. That won’t help him when he has to campaign outside the south, or even outside South Carolina for that matter. Now if only he would kindly shut the Huck up.

Very dignified and adult way of speaking, Jesus H. Huckachrist.
The sooner this clown exits the national stage, the better.

what a dumb panderer. C’mon South Carolina vote Thompson or Romney!
ctmom on January 18, 2008 at 9:26 AM
You can almost see him flailing for attention. It’s kinda sad at this point.
bj1126 on January 18, 2008 at 9:26 AM
Romney is going to let have McCain have SC, perhaps this will be the end of the Huckster? I think Romney is brilliant…let McCain take care of Huck, the true conservatives will take care of McCain. Both moves good for the GOP. Actions speak louder than words, and here Mitt shows he really does care about the future of the party.
JustTruth101 on January 18, 2008 at 9:26 AM
I’m praying that Hillary holds onto those leads in the state polls. Look at all the crap coming out on her, and it’s only the primaries.
Mark V. on January 18, 2008 at 9:27 AM
Forget the idiotic statement about the flag…that’s par for the course. Look at the fact that a Nanny Stater is talking about not letting OTHERS tell the state what to do.
LIAR.
tickleddragon on January 18, 2008 at 9:28 AM
And btw, what is with the childish claiming of first slot on the threads?? This is a really annoying development.

Huck stepped in a stinky dog poop he could have easily avoided, and now he’s going to have to hop around a bit to wipe it off.

This moron reminds me of the Martin Sheen politician in The Dead Zone. He couldn’t be any creepier if he sprouted horns.
As far as I am concerned, he has no more credibility than Ron Paul.

Frankly, I’m not too wild about people INSIDE my state telling me how to raise my kids, either, Guvner.
Can you imagine the gaffes coming off this chickweed in the general, or, worse yet, on the world stage?
I’ll say it again– He’s Clinton with a stuck zipper.
snickelfritz on January 18, 2008 at 9:34 AM
Way dumb.
Just another reason he can never win the General election. If he gets the nomination, the Dems are sure to win the WH.
His handlers are going to have to start feeding sound bites in his ear or stuff like this is likely to come out.

Oh no Hucks got way more stupidity in there somewhere - i lived 60 miles from Arkansas - believe me Huck’s lucky they don’t archive them TV tapes too well.
He’s a master of folksy stuff like the corn popper frying squirrel story he told on Fox News - completely made it up it - would take a 100 watt corn popper the better part of a day to fry a squirrel and when he was in college in the Early 70’s those electric corn popper things were not yet affordable for poor college students - they were retailing for 60 dollars in 1974. Jiffy pop was about the only way to get popcorn.
Lying sack of Arkansas finest chicken poop
you can check it the only reference by anyone in the entire Blogesphere about frying squirrel in a corn popper is Mike Huckabee

SINCE WHEN HAS HUCK THE SCHMUCK NOT BEEN VYING FOR ATTENTION?
He came out of the birthing room juggling two balls!
Can you imagine the sight of him juggling balls like he twitches his eyebrows?
“…we’d tell’ em where to put the pole.”
Now does he have balls or what?
Mcguyver on January 18, 2008 at 9:46 AM
I hate Huck
He’s such a shmuck
His reputation,
is in the muck.
He talks about flags and nanny states,
the crap that he flaps is second rate.
But I know where he can put that pole
he should stuff it in his nanny piehole.
Don’t ya know ya shouldn’t go
with religious demagogues.
They call on Christ to make their heist
and leave you to the dogs.

Thanks James Dobson! What great judgement you showed by doing everything in your power to slam Giuliani and Thompson before the campaign really got going.
Oh, thanks also for not actually being a man of conscience and getting behind Duncan Hunter early and vocally, seeing as Hunter is the most consistent social conservative in the race, and has been for, oh, 20 years or so.

Go Hillary!
funky chicken on January 18, 2008 at 9:53 AM
AFTER HEARING COMMENTS LIKE HUCK MADE, I firmly believe that the Hucker’s entire campaign was hatched at the DNC! Matter of fact, I think it is managed by Howard Dean to tar and feather the GOP. Think about it: Has Mike Huckabee helped conservatives?
A year or more ago, I think Democrats got together and decided to run an evangelical spoiler candidate among the conservatives and Huck was chosen. By keeping Huck in the race, he acts as a spoiler, takes away from the true conservative message, and prevents other candidates from getting an advantage. Every few days he issues a moronic message that taints all candidates and conservatism.
Brilliant strategy by Democrats! I’m not falling for it.
IntheNet on January 18, 2008 at 9:53 AM
the problem is, with modern politics in the media and IT world, you can’t get away with this type of stuff anymore. They use to go around and say one thing to one group and another pitch to another and get away with it because the other groups never found out about it. Now its a whole new ballgame with the internet and media.
jp on January 18, 2008 at 9:53 AM
I don’t think it’s going to help him inside South Carolina, either. We put that issue to rest years ago and I don’t appreciate him bringing it back up.
backwoods conservative on January 18, 2008 at 9:55 AM
BTW, my comment up there was supposed to go in the other thread about Nevada.
Mark V. on January 18, 2008 at 9:57 AM
I gotta ask….Bryan, Allah, Michelle, anyone; have any of you gone to listen to Huckashuck speak? The reason I’m asking is there has to be something more going on here then his Christian designer wear. I’m no fan, as you all know. I believe we have a better chance to survive with Hillary in the WH then this gentleman.
We get the vids, and the sound bytes, but would love to get some input from an observer in the second row.
Limerick on January 18, 2008 at 9:57 AM
I wanted to quote one of the commenters, then another, and then I gave up. Too many spot-on comments to bother. The critics here know the same Huck that I know: lying, pandering, too stupid to know when to stfu, never keeps his powder dry, desperate, utterly free of ethical constraint.
Glad to meet you, boys.

Christan Mag, World, has a great article out titled:
Republicans need to be more like Sam Adams
they mention Huckabee often in it, but the point of it is they need to tone their rhetoric to appeal to multiple audiences, something the Huckster isn’t doing here obviously.
bingo……I think I’ll have a Sam Adams or two later today, best way to ease the pain of our Candidates rhetoric.
jp on January 18, 2008 at 10:08 AM
If by “put to rest” you mean flying the flag in front of the Capitol instead of on the Capitol dome, then yes, it’s been put to rest. This is a good compromise, all things considered.
I don’t understand the feigned outrage on this thread. This is a state flag, therefore a state issue. Huckabee himself said the states should make these kinds of decisions, and refused to take a position on the issue.
This is exactly what Fred Thompson has been saying all along - state issues (like where/how/if to fly a state flag), no matter how controversial or uncomfortable for others, should be decide by the state.
South Carolina has every right to fly the flag on the Capitol grounds if that’s what South Carolina has decided. If the citizens don’t want it there, they can work to have it removed.

Okay, just what if Bill Clinton is reeeeealy the most evil political genius in the world. What if he is somehow behind the other nauseating man from “Hope?” Because, really, tell my how Huckabee isn’t damaging the GOP’s chances at every turn.

Baphomet on January 18, 2008 at 10:14 AM
It’s not as dumb as the remark that he made about it to the press: “is not an issue that the President of The United States needs to weigh in on”
They why weigh in on it?
michele on January 18, 2008 at 10:14 AM
Only Johnny Carson would have a great answer to that! :)
I will say tho, that the comment was so dumb, you’d think he’d left his brain at the coat check.
It put me in the mood for some “yo mama” jokes.
PolitiNOOB on January 18, 2008 at 10:14 AM
He’s going to have to tighten his lap-band. He must be consuming too much squirrel on the campaign trail.
edgehead on January 18, 2008 at 10:16 AM
Huck is running a campaign to:
1. Attact lots of attention (good or bad).
2. Excite non-thinking members of his religious persuasion.
3. Offend everyone else.
I do not say “Go Huckabee” but “Huckabee GO” (use I-90)
Regards
The Rock on January 18, 2008 at 10:24 AM
The disdain for Huckabee’s remark is not regarding federalism or state’s rights– it’s that he’s carpetbag pandering every bit as shamelessly as when Hillary said ‘I don’t feeeeel no ways taaaaaaaahrd…..’
snickelfritz on January 18, 2008 at 10:32 AM
Not.
Presidential.
EJDolbow on January 18, 2008 at 10:33 AM
Huckabee and Hillary have scary similarities; complete faith in their destinies for power and completely willing to destroy their political parties rather than accept defeat.
michaelo on January 18, 2008 at 10:37 AM
Huck the Schmuck and Silky Pony have one thing in common. They are both complete charlatans and flim-flam artists. I wouldn’t trust a single thing either one of these two has to say, and I mean on anything.
pilamaye on January 18, 2008 at 10:38 AM
And in doing so combined with his 2-bit comedy routine, he has become a master at avoiding actually talking at any great lengths about the issues.
Brat on January 18, 2008 at 10:43 AM
I’m so excited by the prospect of yet more debate and argument over the SC flag. We need more political discussion this substantive. We need more discourse about how racist America is. Can we also bring back the debate about Janet Jackson baring her nipple at the Superbowl?
thuja on January 18, 2008 at 10:47 AM
I wonder if he’ll put a fart joke in his first State of the Union address.

Well, here in Georgia, we also put the flag flap to a dirtnap a few years ago. When I heard his comments, I groaned “not again.”
This was not a wise topic to bring up again.
Goober is, as Goober does.

Now that would actually be preferable. Thanks for the soft porn script on a Friday morning. It gave me pleasant thoughts to wash out the memory of the Huckmeister’s twitching eyebrows.

1. I’ve got a pair of boxers with the cconfederate flag
2. Were any of you guys in “Deliverance”?
3. Where I come from (Clinton country), “summer” is not a verb and “poker” is not a noun.

I’m with Funky Chicken on this. Duncan Hunter was a great candidate that never got out there. Dobson and his ilk really peeve me because Huckabee was a preacher, they endorse him.
This remark about the pole coming from a “heathen” would be way more acceptable. Yeah, it’s foolish and nasty really and that’s what gets me about Huckabee, playing both sides. On a pulpit one day and the next day saying a remark like this. As a christian and as an adult you are held to higher standings and I just see devious moves, like I wouldn’t show that negative ad, but come here, this is how it looked. My husband thinks I’m overreacting, but it’s this stuff that ticks me off, besides the fact that he is so not conservative.

Either way Huck will win in a landslide…so I guess it doesn’t matter much anyway.

I know you all don’t pay much attention to MySpace, but based on the behavior of whoever was running Hucksters MySpace profile from the beginning ((I mean the beginning, in advance of Fred’s radio commentary)) I had a raised eyebrow on him. The MySpace profile that was a Draft Fred’08 site originally had the Huckster’s profile first and the only Republican candidate to link up with it. He started posting in the front comments section about how much he likes Fred! and appreciates his support. I was like (*scratching head*), does he realizes that Fred’s gonna run? What’s he doing?
Now I know!
