Video: Anonymous flyer attacks McCain’s years in the Hanoi Hilton

The South Carolina primary has gone bare knuckle, with push-polling and a swipe at, of all things, John McCain’s military service record. That’s the one and only aspect of McCain’s record that’s unassailable. As a military man, he was absolutely heroic. As a politician, though, he leaves much to be desired.

The question is, who would be dumb enough to attack McCain on the former and not the latter? It’s hard to believe that any actual campaign had anything to do with this.

Update: Here’s the flyer’s source.

But it seems that you believe that if you serve, you can’t be a liar.

There’s more evidence supporting this group than there was against Kerry.

Gregor on January 17, 2008 at 4:22 PM

These are just two weird statements.
I am the one saying you can serve and be a liar, not what you say. Either you mis-read, or you lied.
Are you that stupid to turn my statement around, when it is in print?
And eyewitnesses admitted not seeing, but just heresay about most of the allegations on this websit…Kerry had eyewitnesses.
Good grief…you are one lonely man to make up stories so you have someone to write to.
And what about the charge of you raping that child…do you have proof you didn’t?
Where is it?

I did read somewhere today that the reason he was captured was because he missed the bombing target on his first approach, and he made a second approach from the very same spot or IP, enabling the vietnamese to shoot him down. True?

Say no more.

Who’s your candidate?

Califemme on January 17, 2008 at 7:21 PM

Fred or Romney

Entelechy on January 17, 2008 at 9:33 PM

Entelechy,

“VinyFoxy” is yanking your chain (and everyone else’s).

Don’t you recognize the name “VinyFoxy?” Hint: George W. Bush would.

Thanks for helping me out baldilocks.

Storybook. What a fooling. Must be more careful.

Of course, Vincente Fox.

Entelechy, I’m in W. Hollywood… Land of the Lib.

Sorry Califemme, missed this part the last time – Cedars-Sinai is one of my clients and I’m up there often. Who’s your candidate?

I do believe that the Lady Entelechy can see right trough the devious Spaniards treacherous and nefarious plotting and is just waiting for the proper time to throw him into the fire.

Well, duh, it’s only ok because he is a Viet Nam vet.

Percy, we’ll do that together. I like to keep my loves and my enemies as close as possible.

Storybook (plot).

p.s. – was in a hurry and didn’t check out the faux site, until return home. VinyFoxy, you’re a bad one, indeed.

Entelechy on January 17, 2008 at 10:36 PM

Is it possible some sicko put this together with the intent of helping John with the inevitable backlash? Either way, it beneath anybody’s dignity to let this affect their support (or lack of it) for McCain’s campaign. Of course, it does distract for discussing things like immigration…

These same politicians, such as John Kerry, and later, John McCain, as U.S. senators in 1993, swept it all under the rug when they were members of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs and issued their final report that there was no evidence that any POWs were still alive in Vietnam.

SECOND LOOK AT ‘RAMBO, FIRST BLOOD PART II’ SCRIPT!

Someone claimed earlier that Jesse Ventura lied about being a Navy SEAL and that he served in Vietnam. Google it. He was a NAvy SEAL (UDT underwater demolition team) and served during the Vietnam War, although I’m not sure if he was ever in country. In fact, if you read “Lone Survivor” by Marcus Luttrell, Ventura (as a former SEAL) awarded Marcus his SEAL trident badge. I’d be careful about smearing anyone’s military record without substantial proof.

Go Fred! Go!

But I have no qualms voting Romney or Guiliani…

Nice to meet ya! ;c)

Finally the truth comes out:

“Mccain sponsors push polls against himself criticizing his war record in an attempt to gain sympathy votes and villify Mike Huckabee!”

Stay tuned…

AUINSC on January 17, 2008 at 7:36 PM

Correct!

I recognize McCain as a war hero who survived torture, returned to his native land and serves as a senator.

The only lesson to note regarding McCain as POW is his public record.

When a POW and coerced into signing the Anti-American propaganda document, the televised record shows him blinking “torture” Morse Code. That explanation was completely understood by Americans who forgave everyone forced into Communist submission by torture. However, now that decades and generations have distanced him from the occasion, McCain as a Senator would reverse his own record on torture’s universal success in breaking anyone into telling the truth. Now McCain takes the stand that torture does NOT effect truthful admissions from its victims.

McCain’s reasons are his own, but his shift does not correlate to the truth on record. He is a war hero, that is truth. But regarding torture’s effect, following the American withdrawal from Vietnam, a top ranking Vietnamese military official went on record saying that EVERYONE broke under torture. No one in their right mind would expect otherwise, hence no blame to the victims of torture. The French had used that same conclusion, excusing their torture of Algerians as requisite to unhinged the secret revolutionary organization that led the ultimately successful Muslim revolt from France.

Like any successful revolution, (American Revolution 1776, Russia/USSR, China/Mao, Algiers, Vietnam, Iran) revolt succeeds through the sheer determination of its revolutionaries and their implicit FAITH in their cause and their devotion to their leader’s ability to attain the goal. In each of those revolutions mentioned, torture was utilized in the warfare. Since WWI, America’s abstinance from torture was based upon international law agreed upon at the Geneva Convention. Islamic jihadists, Imperialists, fascists and communists do not abide by the Geneva Convention.

Regardless of right or wrong, torture is a most effective means of eliciting truth from an unwilling source of information. It takes all sides to abide or an agreement is not an agreement. Without the enemy concession to the Geneva Convention, I do not abide the gifts of American lives that liberal & compassionately-conservative presidents would sacrifice for any Bael or Mohammed to consume.

I’m almost convinced that the entire Huckabee campaign is being staged by Media Matters, Move-On.org et al.

myamphibian on January 18, 2008 at 3:53 PM

I did something once that a bunch of folks called heroic but it really wasn’t. I just got put in a terrible situation and got out of it the only way I could. I was so scared I puked and wet myself and can remember standing at attention listening to someone read my commendation it barely sounded like what I had done and lived through. I know that I’m not a hero, I was just doing my job and living up to my promise to come home every day. I figure that McCain was probably in the same kind of thing except my deal lasted minutes while his lasted for years, with no end in sight while being tortured physically and mentally every day often all day long. I guess that makes the difference and I’ll gladly accept John McCain as a hero and I don’t care what he had to do to survive being a POW. We all would break, not a matter of if just a matter of when and how much.

I liked Sampley and his group when they trashed Kerry a few years ago. Kerry deserved it and should have been tried for treason, convicted and stood up against the wall for his actions after he left Vietnam. McCain’s situation is very very different and to my view, only those who were also held captive for years in N. Vietnam have the right to judge him.

I will never vote for John McCain, for anything, but it has nothing to do with his war record and everything to do with his politics.

Drunk Report on January 19, 2008 at 1:23 PM

I doubt it. It’s mostly a Huck/McCain flamewar, and Mitt’s jet was headed for Jacksonville, FL, not anywhere in SC. Romney seems to have written off SC.
