MB4,

The world is billions of years old - plenty of time for a whole lot of accidents,

Are you including abiogenesis in your statement here or are you just refering to evolution?

Because if you are, who knows, maybe you are right and those conveniently positive accidents that took place vastly or not so vastly apart may have been enough to put together a single life form.

It may just have been enough to accidentally put together everything necessary for protection, feeding, reproduction and the program-like instict to even bother to do those things.

It may just have been that no negative accidents could have taken place that would have ripped that single proto-life form apart.

You could be right, and your viewpoint doesn't represent any kind of faith whatsoever.

but there can never be enough time for an always existent invisible god.

MB4 on January 18, 2008 at 3:00 AM

How convenient to put the god you do not believe in into a box of your own design and then say he can not exist.

You maybe right here as well. You have totally ripped that strawman god to shreds. It could not be that the real God has declared that he always existed before his creation (and that includes time).

You have demonstrated well your lack of faith.

Will Americans return to studying the works of Madison, Jefferson, Adams, Locke, Machiavelli, Aristotle, and Plato, or will they go on making asses of themselves and destroy their federated republics sooner rather than later?

Sadly, I'm afraid it will be the latter.

The American Founders and the philosophers whose works they studied had far better understanding than that of the Americans' present-day politicians. Will Americans return to studying the works of Madison, Jefferson, Adams, Locke, Machiavelli, Aristotle, and Plato, or will they go on making asses of themselves and destroy their federated republics sooner rather than later?

What? No, I'm just saying that particular interpretation was addressed early in the life of the republic.

Who might that have been?

Sadly, I don't know off the top of my head. It's a bit of a mental historical footnote. Since this thread is in the top picks though, I'll take a look around and see if I can find the answer and post it here for you over the weekend.

We are governed by the rule of law, not the whim of a ruling class. This is a profoundly important bedrock of American philosophy. We the people consent to having a government administer the law in strict accordance with the constraints erected within the Constitution.

I would love to run naked down Main St. on Independence Day.

If you go back to the annals of history, you’ll actually find that an elected Jew brought that issue to the forefront way back when.

Of course not. I'm not advocating anything, I'm showing what many some founders thought of Christianity: they was mostly all for it.

How many Christian prime ministers do you think Israel is ever likely to have? The chief justice closest to the founding of our country declared that this is a Christian nation. But what's he know?

Do we want an “Agent of Change” working on behalf of some other Country?

I dont.

Chakra Hammer on January 18, 2008 at 12:02 PM
Better to have a guy who puts a Mexican consulate in Little Rock, Arkansas, and charges them a dollar a year lease, right? Or would prefer to overide sanctions on Cuba so he can sell them Arkansan rice. I'll bet Tyson Foods is salivating at the prospect of having their puppet as CiC.

No matter how pure of heart the budding Mr. Smith is, when a newly elected politician arrives in Washington. He is met with a phalanx of lobbyists representing their various special interests. ..........................

Snip
.........
I think a good start would be to elect Fred Thompson for president. I think he can communicate to the American people want our true problems are. And hopefully then, we can address them.

But, I understand the tenets of the Mormon faith, and who made it, and why…. it’s very troublesome. When you say, “Mormons believe that the Constitution was a gift of God”. You do realize that their god is not the same God of the founding fathers, right? The Mormon’s say their god lives on the planet kolob and the dudes got hundreds of wives.
