Huck hucks up again, says he would ban pretty much all political speech unless it’s kid tested and candidate approved

Well, no wonder the Huckabee people like McCain so much. When it comes to free speech, they’re both agin’ it.
I personally wish that all of this was outlawed. I think that every candidates should speak for themselves, and that every thing that involves the candidate’s name or another candidate’s name should be authorized and approved by that candidate, otherwise it shouldn’t be spoken….
The point is that candidates can’t force these special interest 527 groups to stop. I wish we could.
The “this” that Huckabee wishes was outlawed is push polling, but he takes the riff much farther than that with the “every thing that involves a candidate’s name…should be approved by the candidate” line. It doesn’t take a Constitutional scholar to see that that would mean the end of the First Amendment, at least in a political context. But since we’re on the McCain-Feingold free speech slip n slide, we might as well just get a good run and dive in head first. At least that’s what Huck seems to think.
But don’t worry. By tomorrow he’ll have signed a pledge promising to protect the First Amendment as his bff. Because he’s tough. And smart. And not winging his entire frakkin campaign at all.

Huck “Hucks up” several times a day, but his supporters don’t seem to notice. They just eat up his passive-aggressive “who me?” schtick and drool on his shoes some more. Allah makes fun of Fredheads, but Huckabee supporters are far more mindless and much scarier in my opinion.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind–none whatsoever–that Huckabee knew about and approved these push polls. He probably came up with the idea himself. Somebody must have witnessed Huckabee acknowledging and approving these push polls. Somebody witnessed it, and will either grow a conscience or will get mad at Huck and some point or will just get greedy and sell the story. I just hope it’s not during the general election, after Huck is our nominee.

I like what Ace had to say about it:
I’m not sure it would be possible to create a worse candidate then Huck. I guess stomping on the 1st just makes him party to the rest of the crowd: Fred and Mac, but this guy seems to have no core values. Maybe he is a stalking horse for Romney to make Romney look like a man of conviction! Okay, I’m kidding on that last bit; clearly Huck can’t help himself.

what scares me about Huckabee is that he thinks he’s a conservative but says and does things that are objectively liberal and sometimes (like here and the national smoking ban proposal) borderline fascist. he then has to be pointed out how un-conservative he is, where he promptly changes direction.

Here’s some anecdotal evidence for y’all to chew on. I talked to 10 people I know in my dear home state of South Carolina. These are everyday, hard-working Americans who don’t obsess over politics or anything, but are aware of what’s going on. Some are evangelicals, some are not.
Romney- 6 votes
Thomspon- 4 votes
They ALL said they would NEVER vote for McCain or Hucky. I promise I didn’t coach them. I just asked who they were voting for, and they volunteered this information. I should point out that 7 of them said they had a hard time choosing between Mitt and Fred and they could possibly change their minds. The important thing is that neither McCain nor Hucky are even being considered! Maybe there is hope!

http://www.newsweek.com/id/78241
As Mike Huckabee gains in the polls, the former Arkansas governor is finding that his record in office is getting more scrutiny. One issue likely to get attention is his handling of a sensitive family matter: allegations that one of his sons was involved in the hanging of a stray dog at a Boy Scout camp in 1998.

Spirit of 1776 on January 17, 2008 at 7:25 PM
It’s easy and cheap for Huck to say, “I condemn push polling” while he continues to benefit from it. As someone claiming to be a Christian, as someone claiming to be honorable, he could EASILY put a stop to it.
If, every time his opponents are push polled on his behalf, Huck released a video reading his opponents rebuttal of the push poll – and told his supporters that he will continue to counteract their push polling this way every time they do it – they’d stop, in a hurry.
But Huck won’t do that, because he’s benefiting from the lies they’re telling on his behalf.
Laura on January 17, 2008 at 7:25 PM
I’d like to point out that push polling is ALREADY illegal in NH and SC.

Spirit of 1776 on January 17, 2008 at 7:27 PM
That exact set of circumstances worked for Russ Feingold back in 1998. Short, only-mostly-remembered story from the annals of Wisconsin (hey, give me a break; it was almost 10 years ago, and there isn’t exactly a lot of reference materials I can use from that almost-before-blogging era):
The campaign between Feingold and Mark Neumann (who was giving up his House seat to challenge Feingold) was already rather nasty by the middle of September. Then an outside group came in to really slime Neumann, in direct violation of then-only-proposed McCain-Feingold. Feingold weakly protested the sliming, eventually getting committments from most of the major TV stations to pull the ads. Naturally, a couple of stations kept on running them through the remainder of that group’s buy.

Fredmentum update [Mark Steyn]
Over to you, Peter Robinson. A Fred staffer from one of the primary states he’s lost already writes in to dispute my view that the Thompson campaign lacks an overriding theme and a memorable slogan. This is the view from his state:
Here are some other things missing from the campaign:
1) a finance chair
2) a clear chain of command
3) top-down loyalty
4) a candidate who was willing to campaign for more than 4 hours at day
5) direct mail
6) a college student coordinator
7) a media strategy
Other than that, the campaign had everything.
In New Hampshire, I know of two town chairs for the Fred campaign who wound up voting for other candidates.

bnelson44 on January 17, 2008 at 7:34 PM
That’s not the issue. The issue is that Huck is talking out of both sides of his mouth. Forget the 1st Amendment for a second. Some of Huck’s largest donors and most ardent supporters are responsible for these push polls — illegal acts in South Carolina, I might add — and yet he’s unable to stop them?
So he gets to have his cake and eat it, too, simply by condemning the action and then wishing it didn’t have to be this way. HE is the one degrading this primary through his personal attacks — metamucil anyone? — and lack of substance. His supporters are breaking the law and all he has to say is ban the negative ads!
Nonsense. How about Huck just obeys the law and stops being a bloody hypocrite.

Every day would become Huckabee Free Speech Watch day. But this will be swept under the rug for Huck, like it always is.

Very interesting weather forecast for SC Saturday. Snow in the Upstate/Greenville/Spartanburg/Anderson (Huckabee’s strongest area). If his support is weak, who knows! Rain for rest of the state, maybe some snow in the Columbia area. This cannot bode well for McCain if you ask me. This will help Fred, especially if his voters are as rabid at the ones on here. Divine intervention?

Huck gets a free pass because most people don’t know yet what to make of him. Very few recognize him for the abomination that he is. When they consider him, they think; is he of use to me? Or is he not?
Further, they reason; is he something/someone that can be used to further my goals? My candidate? My agenda? Everyone is trying to find the best, most efficient way to use him.
In short, he is the epitome of the word “tool.”
