Video: It’s tough to be a white man at the Democrat debate

The question and follow-up in this clip tell you all you need to know about the Nevada Democrat debate. If you’re not watching it, you’re not missing much. For all the kissing and making up between the Obama and Clinton camps, identity politics is still very much a part of the campaign and it will be for the duration. Here, John Edwards is first asked by a “progressive woman” voter who emailed her question in why she shouldn’t resent having to choose between “the first viable woman candidate” and the “first viable African-American candidate” since the Dem candidates’ policies are all so similar. And the follow-up question, well, just takes it.

The answers, by the way, don’t really matter. They’re typical Edwardsian blather. The Republican nominee will need a good response to the follow-up question in the fall, though.

Update: The three amigos made a pact between them to throw away the Iraq war no matter which one wins or what the war’s status is at the time. Gateway Pundit has the video.

In a progressive society, everyone is a test-tube baby.

ninjapirate on January 15, 2008 at 10:41 PM

Clearly, Silky didn’t get the memo from Dicky Morris this afternoon. Why does this man even bother to show up anymore? So sad. Oh well, at least his hair looked good tonight… got any video of that?

Gartrip on January 15, 2008 at 10:41 PM

Who cares….

I posted this a minute ago on another thread….

I’ve been quiet for awhile, but now I will now post my Conservative “dream team” for 2012:

Ann Coulter (President)
Jeri Thompson (Vice-President)

2 tough Conservative gals with no D.C. baggage. They tell it like it is and would be more than happy to tell San Fran Nan and Hairy Reed to kiss their as$!

The male species can now begin to bow!

I don’t like his blather, but I do like his paintings.

It’s amazing that only Liberal news achors and achorettes
can ask a question like that and get away with it,any

And why sould I be “Forced”,as she says.
Who’s forceing her to vote, either way!

Great point. But it doesn’t really matter since their policies are essentially the same. The dems might as well vote their “identity.”

pullingmyhairout on January 15, 2008 at 10:43 PM

Issues? We don’t need no stinkin’ issues!

rmgraha on January 15, 2008 at 10:43 PM

Morris just asked why Edwards is still in the race coming in 3rd place every time.

He said Obama should give Edwards the VP slot and run ramshod over The Destined One.

I wish I had ready access to the numbers, but basically there are very few white males left in the Democrat party. In general elections less than 40% (sometimes dramatically less) of white males vote Democrat and the situation is trending worse for Dems over time.

Nessuno on January 15, 2008 at 10:48 PM

pullingmyhairout on January 15, 2008 at 10:43 PM

sums up the entire problem with the party if you ask me. Everyone is the same, same ideas same opinions. People with different opinions (zell, lieberman, etc) are pushed out so everyone is identical.

i don’t like huck, mccain, spector, etc on every issue – but I’m glad they are in the party. It makes for interesting intraparty conversation.

lorien1973 on January 15, 2008 at 10:48 PM

Nessuno on January 15, 2008 at 10:48 PM

Good point. Subliminally, you could easily add “why would a white guy vote for a democrat” too. That’s the message, isn’t it? A white guy isn’t welcome to run, so why would they be welcome to vote for them.

I love Michelle but I want her opinion available to us in 2012 and beyond. Therefore, she will be the #1 advisor to Coulter/Thompson. The “Karl Rove”, if you will. But still Hot Air’s #1 as well.

That’s why I hate these primaries and the debates, especially the dems. It’s like listening to the same song performed by different artists – same lyrics, same tune, different style, but the same song nevertheless.

SouthernPride on January 15, 2008 at 10:56 PM

The Republican nominee will need a good response to the follow-up question in the fall, though.

It never ceases to amaze me how the Liberals are too busy being dogmatic to really get the profundity of some of their truly great leaders. Dr. King spoke 45 years ago about judging people for their content, not the color of their skin. By his thinking, the criterion for Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama is only their aptitude to be POTUS, not their gender or race. Thus, the answer to the question is that it is flawed, because the truly color (and gender) blind voter would never entertain being swayed by these issues.

Democrats on TV are cracking me up! Their divisions are so apparent! FUN!

Jaibones on January 15, 2008 at 11:03 PM

Interesting how the so called “progressives” are judging the candidates by the color of skin (or the presence of breasts) instead of the content of character.

What would Martin Luther King Jr. think of this identity politics shenanigans?

Tim Russert says to Hillary, “The most common cause of death among young black men in the inner cities is trike>gunsother young black men. Fixed that for ya Tim. Hillary says she is against illegal guns. There’s a brave statement. What if we pointed out to her that they were just ‘undocumented’ guns, (and maybe female to boot)? Maybe we would get a little more sympathy? It’s for the bullets Hillary. Trust me, Hill will try to ban guns the first time she hears a car backfire within hearing range. I would rather get re-circusized with a dull butterknife on a roller coaster than vote for this fraud.

Guns kill people like spoons make Rosie Odonell fat.

Amazing. I’m sorry, but which constitutional amendment established that?

Isn’t the Edwards constituency the gay white males and certain lawyers? Who do they go to after Edwards drops out?

I’m thinking a few more bare chested photos from the Obama campaign can win over most of the Edwards voters.

Silky is either angling for the VP spot or his ego just won’t let him believe he doesn’t have a chance.

I’m betting on the VP angle. I can’t see either Hillary or Obama combining on a ticket for the fall, which leaves…Silky (or so he hopes).

tballard on January 16, 2008 at 12:36 AM

He said Obama should give Edwards the VP slot and run ramshod over The Destined One.

Well, if it worked for President Kerry…

Gerard on January 16, 2008 at 12:56 AM

God, I so want Edwards to be the VP nominee. Isn’t he the one who railed against Walmart and then called Walmart up using his status to procure a Playstation 3? Is’t he the guy talking about 2 America’s while owning a large stake in one of the largest pirate treasure ship excavations ever? It will be a hoot to revisit Edward’s anti-Christian bloggers. That illegitimate love child will pop out before the election too. Maybe Edwards will claim that “the Lord filled her with his hot, white, sticky Holy Spirit?”

ninjapirate on January 16, 2008 at 1:12 AM

Am I the only one who thinks these Democrats are idiots to be surprised that people die during a war? I deeply appreciate the sacrifices of our soldiers, marines, sailors and their families. But these Democrats truly seem surprised and expect surprise from others when people die in a war. And this is one of the guerilla’s greatest strenghts: the fact that civilians are so quickly wearied by bloodshed. I’m just a weak stomached civilian myself so I can identify with the feeling. But a civilized person does not act on every feeling, much less make it a major policy. If Barak, Hillary and John have so much difficulty with this war they would not have even made it through even a few days of the comparative blood baths of the Civil War or WW II. If it were up to these guys we would be slave owning Nazis. Most of the soldiers in those wars knew what principles they were fighting for and felt it was worth it. And I think this didication to principle continues in Iraq and Afganistan, in spite of lefty surrender monkeys.

Captain America on January 16, 2008 at 1:56 AM

Good news for the “progressive” woman in the clip, after South Carolina, there won’t BE a white man in the Dem debates anymore.

And then the “Party of Diversity” can celebrate their *ahem* “diversity”.

SuperCool on January 16, 2008 at 2:06 AM

I want to see someone make a video montage of Edwards’s performances in these idiotic debates overlaid with the song “It’s Hard Out There For A Pimp.”

Gerard on January 16, 2008 at 3:24 AM

I hate to give Edwards the answer, but the proper response should have been: ” If you’re really a progressive, Martin Luther King Jr. has already given you the right answer. Don’t judge any of us for the color of our skin or our gender, but for the content of our character. If you can’t do that then you don’t deserve to call yourself “progressive”.”

Would have shut everyone up in a heartbeat. Of course, real “progressives” don’t think like that, and I can’t really say much good about any of their characters.

eclark1849 on January 16, 2008 at 5:03 AM

good lord–these morons make my teeth ache

devadevadasa on January 16, 2008 at 6:30 AM

The good news… we don’t make people as stupid, self-centered, egotistical and weak as these three anymore. The mold has been broken. The next generation of Americans make these three look like the fakes and cry-babies they are.

The bad news… many American voters fail to realize this fact because they are just as stupid, self-centered, egotistical and weak as these three are. Repulsive actually.

Griz on January 16, 2008 at 7:38 AM

The really really made news… four of the six Republican candidates are exactly like them.

Griz on January 16, 2008 at 7:40 AM

I’m sorry. I can’t wrap myself around the “why shouldn’t I resent…” question.

Seriously, the mind just boggles. Resent? RESENT? I get the left is crazy, notionally, but when I see it in practice I’m often left speechless. So the libs are finally swinging from the petard of identity politics, resenting the hell out of having to choose which road stakes out the higher realms of absolute moral authority? Go with race? Go with gender? How dare you make me choose like this?

If only, if only she had been a brown skinned woman. That would have been the perfect storm.

TexasDan on January 16, 2008 at 8:11 AM

Oh, and it’s nice to see that affirmative action has finally come into play in the presidential race. The fact that it’s come home to roost in the Dem camp (for the moment anyway) is poetic justice.

eclark1849 on January 16, 2008 at 5:03 AM

yep.

TexasDan on January 16, 2008 at 8:14 AM

well, as a Hispanic male, i can say the Dumb party is racist since there was not enough support to keep Richardson in the race, so i guess that means the Dumbs have turned their back on us. :(

historic? Historic? What’s historic about it?

Why do Dumbs say their all inclusive but keep pointing out the differences among populations?

madmonkphotog on January 16, 2008 at 9:09 AM

The Republican nominee will need a good response to the follow-up question in the fall, though.

A handful of random genetic chemicals is dealt to you when you are conceived as a single cell, and that’s ALL that accounts for the physical differences between us. A strand of DNA can only be seen under the most powerful electron microscope, and yet it somehow looms as an impenetrable wall between people? I don’t buy that. I reject that.

On the other hand, a vast array of ideas and influences shape the character, concerns, and actions of each and every person. The Republican Party is about ideas, not about differences in the gift you got from your Mom and Dad.

RushBaby on January 16, 2008 at 9:56 AM

Why do Dumbs say their all inclusive but keep pointing out the differences among populations?

Simple: to encourage the people they are pandering to at the moment to resent other people, and turn that resentment into votes. The frightening thing is not so much that they are such cynical demagogues, but that demagoguery seems to work so damn well with nearly half the people in this country.
