Newt is a Huckabee advisor. He’s now dead to me.

Really? If that's true, he's just gone down several rungs on my ladder of respect.

The problem infecting the republican party right now is that elitism has taken hold over the group in Washington.

Ah, elitism is the problem -- period.

I never thought I’d see the day when Rush Limbaugh would have to “dress down” Newt Gingrich on the merits of conservative idealism. Rush was RIGHT ON and Newt ran away. I am a student of Newt but he has “evolved”. Newt drank the AlGore “climate change” kool-aid, and is way to cozy with Hillary. Most genius’ finally crack and I fear Newt might be close. It’s a sad day.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking when I listened to the interview this afternoon.

Bush is a miserable failure on this, as would be McCain, Huck, and Rudy. Four states have recently shown the will to “do the job the (current) American President won’t do.”
fred5678 on January 15, 2008 at 4:56 PM

The only Bush failure on this is that he failed in his effort to give them amnesty and make things worse.

He never tried and never wanted to actually solve the problem, and if we had listened closely to the details back hen he was campaigning we wouldn't have expected him to actually enforce the laws and secure the borders. But we were so worried about keeping Gore out of the White House in 2000 and keeping Kerry out in 2004, most of us (myself included) never heard him when he said (essentially) that he doesn't believe in borders.

He is a globalist, just like his father... He just hid it better for five years.

Rush at his best (from the link I provided about Liberalism being the most gutless choice you can make):

The point is, the antidote for this is conservatism, and there just isn't anybody on the front burner that is explaining and leading with these principles.

Instead, way too many people are trying to water them down and redefine them so as not to have to deal with them. It's hard. I've always said, conservatism is hard, conservatism does not baby people. It doesn't do what de Tocqueville was describing here. It doesn't keep you a perpetual child. Conservatism doesn't try to find a way to keep you happy. Conservatism is about making yourself happy and productive and fulfilled and making sure that there are as few obstacles in your path to all that as possible. But liberalism, Nanny Statism, why, it's easy. It's the most gutless choice you can make. Just tell everybody you care about them, understand that they can't survive against the odds and they're going to punish the people who do. We're going to try to make everybody equal, and we're going to make sure you're as happy as you can be, and we're going to make sure that you don't do any damage to the country, you don't do any damage to the planet, you don't do any damage to the neighborhood, you don't do any damage to your house. If you engage in fraudulent or mistaken practices that cost you econonically, don't worry about it, no harm, no foul, because you were too stupid to know what you were doing in the first place, so we will fix it and make you indentured servants of ours, constantly owing us in the government for whatever pleasure and happiness you find in life, and that will keep you dependent on it and will keep you looking everywhere but yourself for contentment, for happiness, for satisfaction, and for pleasure. That, my friends, is what he's talking about. That's what liberalism is, and it pains me to say, we have Republicans running on the same premise for the presidency in this campaign.

Global Warming issue is not a political gorilla.
If you to read and trust the polls, the environment it not in the top 5 issues.

Innovation and free market ideas is what should be promoted.
The democrats are pushing "it's the economy stupid" line.

If anything, health care reform may be the real issue.

Hannity on our republican candidates: “they are all great!”

Whatever.

Hannity is a nice guy (and the luckiest man on earth - getting the slot right after Rush)... but frankly he's not terribly bright and hasn't come up with an original idea... ever. Sorry Sean.

Reaganism is not dead...
Newtism is dead.
In fairness, even Barry Goldwater veered leftward in his last years. Reagan himself could be accused of naivety as it related to Gorbachev.
This is why Rush is SO right and why Newt is wrong. The movement and the principles are timeless. They trancend personalities and are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.
Thank you Rush.
Thank you Fred.
Thank you Bryan.

Rush was on fire this morning and he unloaded on Newt who has had it coming for months now.
I'm sure Newt came away with a what the hell was that expression on his face and Rush was right on every bit of what he took Newt to task for.

He's gotta be nice to everybody..

You guys that suggest we "offer" another option to deal with Global Warming sound like you're just not up to the task of making your point known over and over. Gore is shown in schools, but it's shown to CHILDREN. Children don't vote, and the message is already getting out. There is still a debate, and we need to stay away from electing officials that buy into this drivel. We just have to keep at it. Offer whatever you want to offer, but never concede that the concept is valid or fact.

Don't you guys remember that the way fiction becomes fact is it's repetition? This is how the LIBS work.

You all have given up...and in essence, given in. I haven't.

Part of me thinks Newt is gearing up for a Third Way. He helps the Pro-life Democrat Huck get the repub. nomination, knowing it will piss off the conservative base who will have nowhere to turn, then rushes in on a white horse to save the day as the REAL Conservative in a third party.

Who knows...
