Big funny: HuffPo mocks new Coulter column … remembering her dead father

Whether it’s Tony Snow’s cancer, the comparative good intentions of Hitler and Stalin, or the urgent need for a military coup, no one does “satire” like HuffPo. How bad is this one? So bad that even the blogosphere’s most notorious comment section is put off by it, although stick with the debate long enough and you’ll see it ends up where all progressive line-crossing eventually does, in a contest between the self-congratulatory “I’m tired of being morally superior to the wingnuts” and the equally self-congratulatory “we must remain morally superior to the wingnuts.” I didn’t read to the end but I’m pretty sure it ends in a draw.
Elsewhere, Darleen Click helpfully deconstructs the moral superiority of “I can see your balls.”

We should invade their website, kill their leader and convert them to Christianity.

There’s that tolerance we keep hearing about.

I propose immediate dust-off and nuke the site from orbit.
It’s the only way to be sure.

Also, do they hate ALL “pink men” (sic) over there or just the ones not running in the Democrat primary?
Techie on January 14, 2008 at 12:14 PM
Oh, those loveable Liberals with their tolerance and understanding…
Sympathy for jihadists down at Gitmo, looking to kill Americans? Yup. Sympathy for a columnist, who happens to have a different political view than you, remembering her dead father? Nope.

You stay classy, Huffpo.

The ranting of lowlife scum. And for the record kennedy and the harridan are also trash as any reasoning person knows.

Just to make them feel at home: “Pillage the site, and rape their women”.
That’s the language they are comfortable with…the problem is, they live behind a cyber screen, so they can post what they want.
Funny, I never hear anywhere in public their screams of protest…they hide behind an electronic wall and hurl their insults.

How much room do we have to criticize them right now? They just took a page out of the current Republican front-runner’s handbook: It’s perfectly ok to SAY things that would have made Joseph Goebbels blush — as long as you keep screeching about how morally superior you are while you do it.
logis on January 14, 2008 at 12:25 PM
Democrats trying to play “morally superior” come across like Fran Drescher (old Nanny series) trying to play a classy dame.
Each ends up looking like a parody of the image they are trying to present.

Reading through “some” of the comments on the HP, luckily there were quite a few who kind of “drew the line” so to speak.

They obviously have no self-esteem. It’s classic that you deride others at all costs to make yourself feel better.

I can remember a time when Arianna Huffington was a genuine class act. (It could happen.) I could write to her about a thoughtful commmentary in her weekly e-mail bulletin, and she would write a thoughtful reply. Somewhere along the way, Arianna learned she could call more attention to herself if she did some stupid bedroom scene with Al Franken. From there, she devolved into just another media gadfly, with absolutely nothing to add to the arena of public opinion — except as a regular on “The View.”
It’s too bad. And now her site has to trash a woman who mourns the loss of her father, one who happened to have opinions about the state of the world, the people running it, and how that influenced her. For those who would tell us her media antics bely a human side to Ms Coulter, I cannot imagine her humanity being any more evident than in this loving tribute.
“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord…”
manwithblackhat on January 14, 2008 at 12:37 PM
I use the term “media antics” guardedly. I trust the point remains.
manwithblackhat on January 14, 2008 at 12:39 PM
Honor Ann and her Dad: it’s a great time to buy some of Ann Coulter’s books!
RushBaby on January 14, 2008 at 12:40 PM
Libs are tolerant of all humans. But they regularly redefine “human.” Even if Coulter cared what libs thought, being the daughter of an FBI agent and Catholic pretty much subhumanizes her for the left. Then she criticized Clinton and wrote favorably about McCarthy – - fugitaboutit.
snaggletoothie on January 14, 2008 at 12:45 PM
This is the real left. Hate and cut. They have no real morals or any code of ethics, so all they have left for dialogue is to attempt to lower others down to the sub pond scum basement levels where the left exists.
They should be ashamed, but they have no shame.
Honor and integrity are quite foreign to the minds of the lefties like huffington and her followers.
shooter on January 14, 2008 at 12:48 PM

ronsfi on January 14, 2008 at 12:50 PM
Being that for progressives (libs) Ted Kennedy lives on mount Olympus versus Leavenworth (where he belongs) and that Ann Coutler dared expose Apollo (Teddy I conspired treason Kennedy), the Huffington Post must therefore respond by widening and repaving the moral low road to hell.

FIRST LOOK AT GOD SMITING LIBERALS!
I’m surprised that the Huckster didn’t jump on this, too. I can see it now……”My friends, I hope to be with you in paradise one day so we, along with Ronald Reagan, Joe McCarthy and Ann Coulter’s father, can intercede for God to smite liberals for us.”
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on January 14, 2008 at 1:09 PM
You know, I always hear about the “hate-filled, irresponsible, reckless, etc. internet” but I never see posts like this on NRO,or Powerline, or American Thinker, or here, or LGF or any other of the popular right blogs. Maybe Ace will cross a line or two but nothing like this.
The MSM needs to start making note of this.
Then again maybe pigs need to learn to fly.
billy on January 14, 2008 at 1:10 PM
I’d argue that they do, in their own minds, have good intentions: it’s just that their idea of utopia is dangerously vague and ill-defined and they have no means of getting there from here that doesn’t involve Stalinist purges.
E.g., we want a world free of class differences and racism and hate, where all ideas are accepted; now to do that, we have to silence Coulter and everyone who thinks like her.
saint kansas on January 14, 2008 at 1:14 PM

It’s on! Seriously I like Ann’s grown up reaction to her fathers death. It is almost unnecessary to send my condolences, but I will anyway.

I hope Ann Coulter’s father haunts Arianna Huffington’s SUVs and private jets.
wildweasel on January 14, 2008 at 1:32 PM
I cannot recall the author of these words, but I use them frequently. I’ll use them now in relation to the usual commie-water-carriers of the Left (you know, the caring, loving Left):
“I regard them with an indifference bordering on aversion.”
Montana on January 14, 2008 at 1:34 PM
I’m sure they will claim that it is a small fringe that says these horrible things. That might be partially true. But the fact of the matter is the left never jumps to the media to condemn this kind of sickness. Think about that.
Larry Craig plays footsies in a bathroom stall and the left is out there wall to wall with their outrage. But when their own people do and say thing many times worse….crickets. They have to be prompted to condemn it.
Liberalism and the left has become a total become a moral, decency, and common sense vacuum.
Ann Coulter doesn’t pull punches and can be pretty hard hitting. BUT…..her stabs at people and satire all have an underlying factual basis. She doesn’t do hit pieces this classless. Tony Snow deserved no form of vicious attacks but got them anyway.
Liberalism is a disease period. I doubt there is a cure unless terrorists force the left back into reality..I’m serious. Ever wonder why the left doesn’t attack terrorism or terrorists???? Birds of a feather.
libhater on January 14, 2008 at 1:35 PM
Additionally, Ann’s column was great. I teared up a little when I learned her parents were married 54 years. God bless them and her.
Montana on January 14, 2008 at 1:35 PM
You hit the nail squarely on the head.
Example: I don’t believe in global warming. And I’m not going to seriously go far out of my way to cut down on my driving or energy usage. In fact, I like to take the dog for meaningless car rides because it makes her happy and gets her out of the house.
Tell a liberal about my views and ask what should be done with me in the name of saving Earth.
Canadian Infidel on January 14, 2008 at 1:37 PM
If I were a liberal, I would be afraid, very afraid. When she is done grieving for her Father, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near you cowards!!.
I pray that God comforts Ann and her family during this hard time.
TheFamousOne on January 14, 2008 at 1:38 PM
I have become so cynical when it comes to the Progressives, that I expected as much. These are people that have opinions based on little facts, so how can we expect them to debate in a normal way. They have to get personal and reach the real dregs in order to make their point. They hate, but have no idea who or why, or at least can’t put any logic behind it.
Ann’s column was exceptional about her dad. I can’t even imagine the loss her mother must feel.
May God continue to bless them both.
Hening on January 14, 2008 at 1:41 PM
One day, I vomited on the keyboard while typing something in notepad. I forgot to unplug the keyboard while cleaning it out. At the end, a bunch of gibberish was left in the text document, and I just closed it, not realizing it got saved. Then one day, I threw out that old hard drive. I thought I saw Arianna Huffington sneaking around in my trash, but I knew I was crazy to believe that.
This was the day before the Huffington Post opened. Sure enough, the root page was “vomitgibberish.html”.
MadisonConservative on January 14, 2008 at 1:41 PM
These people have just been DYING to get back at Ann for the “harpies” comment, and good God, they sure waited long enough! The moment that they heard, I’m sure they all grabbed their crayons and started writing their hate epithets, then realised that wax doesn’t come off glass so easy!
Dummies. Who cares what hate they throw at Ann? At least she isn’t fundraising and trying to profit from her Dad’s death, a la Edwards…
Califemme on January 14, 2008 at 1:51 PM
You know, this kind of thing really hits home to me. I lost my dad in September (the 11th, actually), and if anyone had mocked the eulogy that my brother delivered, replete with his proud statement that my parents met campaigning for Goldwater, in person?
I am profoundly serious that they would be spending the night in that funeral home.

And if you think I am going to click on the link and subject myself to the sick ravings going on there you are sadly mistaken. There is nothing you could tell me that would make me want to increase Huffpo’s hit count.
Buford on January 14, 2008 at 2:00 PM
After reading Kelly’s piece, I am not surprised. Repulsed, yes. Surprised, no.
I challenge any and all libs lurking here to produce a parallel piece written by a conservative columnist reveling in the death of a parent or relative of a lib pundit or politician. And no credit for Coulter’s “harpies” comments since she was not reveling over the widow’s losses, but observing how they seemed to be using those deaths as a spring board to public attention etc.
Mallard T. Drake on January 14, 2008 at 2:01 PM
Another shining example of the “Compassionate Left”
And also a hat tip to those at that cesspool of hate who are pointing out how inappropriate and classless some of those posts are(One does wonder where they were during the Cheney & Tony Snow threads however). Although I think they are fighting a losing battle with the PuffHo’s, good taste and class should be applauded when spotted.

I’m pretty sure 95% of the people there are clinically insane. Everytime I go over there and read the comments my head explodes from the insanity and hatred those people spew out on a consistent basis.
therightwinger on January 14, 2008 at 2:34 PM
The problem with the left is that they have nothing to counter an Ann Coulter, Mark Steyn, Michelle Malkin, or Laura Ingraham. Their intelligence level isn’t even close enough for them to debate any one of these or many others like Rush. Therefore they have to resort to infantile name calling and hate speech.
I’m so using that quote from now on!
gator70 on January 14, 2008 at 2:38 PM
Ann Coulter lost any respect she had from me now that she has become an establishment attack dog against Mike Huckabee! Obviously everything in her books is pure BS because if she actually believed any of the crap she writes she would be endorsing Mike Huckabee!
HaraldHardrada on January 14, 2008 at 2:45 PM
I’m absolutely shocked at the hatred of the people on that sight. Sure we make fun of Obby or the View, but I don’t think it’s right to stoop to such a low as the column and commenters did.
Uggh.. I need to go take a shower after having read that…

Well, they’ve got the high-ground, classiness, and general quality of a Reverend Fred Phelps graveside protest there.
Very nice, dishonoring the dead, mocking the grieving family, and generally crapping on the entire process…
I’m just thinking, if I’m looking for moral “high ground” I might aim a bit higher than Phelps…
gekkobear on January 14, 2008 at 4:00 PM
Coulter has made some cruel statements about people, in one famous quote declaring that some women were enjoying their husbands’ 9/11 deaths. The HuffPo piece was stupid, but Coulter’s frequent attacks on others make it difficult for some to respond to her with sympathy when she suffers an unfortunate loss.
dedalus on January 14, 2008 at 4:06 PM

I’ve read 100% of Ann’s books. I agree with Ann about 85% of the time. I believe Ann wrote of her father’s death to honor his life. There is no room anywhere for making fun of it.

What the hell is wrong with these people?
I dislike making sweeping generalisations, but I have honestly never seen a huge amount of conservatives – on a message board, for instance – say they’re happy that something truly awful happened to a liberal. Yet it happens all the time when it’s the other way around.
I thought Ann’s column was extremely heartfelt and she obviously uses humour to help her hurting heart or to stop things getting a little too sentimental for her liking (like her father did). I was actually expecting a reaction like this.
I remember reading, disgustedly, comments from liberals all over the place after Laura Ingraham got diagnosed with cancer: that’s it’s no surprise, that “Fox News does that to you”, that she deserves to die for believing what she does, etc., etc.
Despicable.
monkeywrench on January 14, 2008 at 8:48 PM
The reason the left and some on the right for that matter hate Ann so much is not because of her ideology. They hate her because of her FACTS. She backs up everything she says with facts.
She is a smart ass, but in a good way, and it drives them crazy. I challenge anyone to read anything she has written to find something that wasn’t factual. She can handle herself but I just wish sometimes we were living in the middle ages when men could defend a womens honor ,because I would defend hers in a heartbeat.
God Bless you and your family Ann.

Ann’s column is very moving. It makes me take a step back think of my parents and their generation.

I mean she did have the Ted Kennedy jokes in a column allegedly memorializing her father.
What’s that about?? And what about the “54 years, married to the wrong woman.” I didn’t get it.
I guess because my parents are probably more in love with each other now than they were when they first married, I had a hard time “getting” that joke. It would never be something myself or any of my siblings would say to memorialize our father with regards to our mother.
And the cancer joke wasn’t especially pithy or funny. I know I had my cancer just long enough to ever imagine missing it, I cringe everytime I remember it just may return.
Again her way of being provocative and racy. I think Madonna did/does a better job.
AprilOrit on January 14, 2008 at 11:59 PM
I hope that someday I can do my father the justice she does hers.
