NFL Sunday playoff open thread
posted at 12:30 pm on January 13, 2008 by Bryan
It’s San Diego at Indy at 1 pm and New York at Dallas at 4:30. No upsets in the Saturday games means we’re likely to see one today, and history is against Dallas a bit. It’s hard to beat a team three times in one season, and Dallas has beaten New York twice this season. While the Cowboys are easily the more complete team, the offense has struggled over the last part of the season and the Giants have stepped up. The Cowboys are at home and should win but it will be a tough one.
On the AFC side, the Colts are healthy after getting several players back from injury.

conservnut on January 13, 2008 at 7:32 PM
That grounding call was atrocious!
Gatordoug on January 13, 2008 at 7:32 PM
Tony looks confused. What did Jessica do to him?
dedalus on January 13, 2008 at 7:33 PM
Well the Chargers did it, so I don’t see why the Giants couldn’t.
Gianni on January 13, 2008 at 7:33 PM
The previous penalty on the Giants secondary against TO was ticky tack stuff.
dedalus on January 13, 2008 at 7:34 PM
Fun to think about huh?
conservnut on January 13, 2008 at 7:34 PM
What the hell was that illegal hands call? He jammed him at the line….
Pablo on January 13, 2008 at 7:35 PM
Yes, it was ridiculous that Romo would hold the ball and take a sack when he was outside the pocket and then throw the ball away with no receivers in the area when he was inside the pocket.
TheBigOldDog on January 13, 2008 at 7:35 PM
3:54 left. dallas is goin down!
lorien1973 on January 13, 2008 at 7:36 PM
In the FACE read the rulebook
Gatordoug on January 13, 2008 at 7:36 PM
Cowboys should have thrown short on 3rd down and gone for it on 4th. I wouldn’t have punted.
dedalus on January 13, 2008 at 7:37 PM
Later. Right now, I’ve got another upset to watch.
Pablo on January 13, 2008 at 7:37 PM
It was a very-very small offset for all the interferance and holding calls that they have not thrown flags at all day.
conservnut on January 13, 2008 at 7:37 PM
YESSS
Now get it done ROMO!
Gatordoug on January 13, 2008 at 7:38 PM

Gianni on January 13, 2008 at 7:49 PM
OH well, Congrats Giants
Gatordoug on January 13, 2008 at 7:50 PM
Let’s see another Giants and Patriots on Super Sunday..
Wade on January 13, 2008 at 7:50 PM
The Big Blue Wrecking Crew!
They’re going to revoke Jessica Simpson’s Texas citizenship after this one.
Number 2 on January 13, 2008 at 7:50 PM
No… Bye Dallas. Thanks for playing.
And no Patrick, you won’t be seeing the Patriots again this year.
TheBigOldDog on January 13, 2008 at 7:50 PM
Packers are going to the Big Party. They’ll snow these blue city boy’s without raising a sweat. Brett Favre’s last HooRah!!!
Griz on January 13, 2008 at 7:51 PM
Awwwwww, sorry Bryan. Goooooooooooooo Packers!
Ian on January 13, 2008 at 7:51 PM
Have a nice day, TO
Wade on January 13, 2008 at 7:52 PM
Good luck finding that playoff win, Dallas. Oh, and that look on Jerry’s face? Priceless. HEH.
fiatboomer on January 13, 2008 at 7:52 PM
Not a chance, Wade. The one team that can beat the Pats is going to do so in The Game That Cannot Be Named after they complete the season sweep of the Giants.
LET IT SNOW!!!
steveegg on January 13, 2008 at 7:52 PM
The Pats have the Chargers, Giants and Packers in the way? 19-0 looks a lot more likely than it did yesterday.
dedalus on January 13, 2008 at 7:52 PM
Tony who?
Wade on January 13, 2008 at 7:52 PM
The Pack will be in the show, and they’ll give us back the one they took from Bledsoe and Co. I’m looking forward to it.
Pablo on January 13, 2008 at 7:53 PM
Damn I was hoping for the first post season win since 1996 for Dallas.
Hilts on January 13, 2008 at 7:53 PM
You forget something; the Pats haven’t beat the Packers this season. Don Shula says that the Pack are the odds-on favorite to keep the ’72 Dolphins as the only team to end the season undefeated.
steveegg on January 13, 2008 at 7:57 PM
I’m making my predictions
AFC-Patriots
NFC-Packers
Super Bowl i am hoping to see two good quartebacks go head to head this won’t be an easy call.
I am picking Patriots to take Super Bowl.
unctarheel on January 13, 2008 at 7:57 PM
Tony can’t win the big game!
lorien1973 on January 13, 2008 at 7:57 PM
Early forecast for Lambeau on Sunday – sunny and cold. Let the Giants freeze.
steveegg on January 13, 2008 at 7:58 PM
Don Shula is a senile old man.
Wade on January 13, 2008 at 7:59 PM
He may be, but he’s also something that Bill Belichek won’t be; the only coach of a team to finish the season undefeated.
steveegg on January 13, 2008 at 7:59 PM
I’m a Giants fan, but I’d like to see the Pats go 19-0 just to stick it to the grumpy old 72 Dolphins.
dedalus on January 13, 2008 at 8:00 PM
Well, as long as Shula says so…Aaaahahahahahaha!!!
Pablo on January 13, 2008 at 8:02 PM
Steve, you sound just like all the other blowhards who have said the Patriots will be beat, week after week. You better worry about the Giants next week and forget about your Patriots Derangement Syndrome.
Wade on January 13, 2008 at 8:03 PM
Don’t worry. Just wait until next week. The Giants have done something this season his team couldn’t, go into Dallas and win.
TheBigOldDog on January 13, 2008 at 8:06 PM
I didn’t realize I waded into Romn…er, Cowboy HQ here, full of defeatist talk about the inevitability of the Democratic swe…er, Pats perfect season now that their team lost.
steveegg on January 13, 2008 at 8:08 PM
SSWWWEEEETTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not only are we ridded of those pesky Colts, it looks like the Pats are still going to get a chance to kick some Manning ass!
Nice.
thegreatbeast on January 13, 2008 at 8:11 PM
Guess all that Romo = the next Aikman talk was a bit premature this year, eh?
Good Lt on January 13, 2008 at 8:11 PM
you really think the Giants are going to get past the Packers eh?
That’s a chicken I’m not about to count just yet…
Pilgrim on January 13, 2008 at 8:12 PM
Who would have thought Eli would be the only Manning playing next week.
oakpack on January 13, 2008 at 4:07 PM
Was that today I said that?
oakpack on January 13, 2008 at 8:20 PM
Michelle,
You better order up another half-dozen iPhones, or you are going to have one suicidal blogger on your hands…
gridlock2 on January 13, 2008 at 8:20 PM
I didn’t realize I waded into Paul…er, Packer HQ here, full of defeatist talk about the inevitability of the Democratic swe…er, Packers Super Bowl season now that their expected opponent lost.
TheBigOldDog on January 13, 2008 at 8:22 PM
D’ya suppose Kerry is scripting a law to make sure the Superbowl is televised?
oakpack on January 13, 2008 at 8:22 PM
He’s still thinkin’ with the wrong head. He threw that last pass into triple coverage.

Boy with that loss, I think I might try to catch some dfw sports radio online this week. It’s going to be entertaining. I’ve not seen a trench fight turn around SO completely in a half before!
Spirit of 1776 on January 13, 2008 at 8:25 PM
Come on, you should be used to it by now. It’s not like this is the first time the Colts have chocked.
TheBigOldDog on January 13, 2008 at 8:25 PM
The best part of this game was watching Lucifer’s adjutant on the sidelines at the tail-end of the fourth quarter.
Oh, the sweet, sweet tears of Jerry Jones.
Gerard on January 13, 2008 at 8:27 PM
Uh oh. Owens is having a Shrillary, New Hampshire moment.
oakpack on January 13, 2008 at 8:27 PM
He thought the coverage was as wide open as what he was used to in mexico *rim shot*
