As one of the young evangelicals interviewed for the Times piece today so tactfully put it:

“He reaches outside the normal Republican box.”

CNN/OPINION RESEARCH CORPORATION POLL January 9-10
Registered Voters’
Choice for President

Obama 58%
Huckabee 39%

Clinton 56%
Huckabee 42%

As of today (Drudge, top/center) Clinton/Obama would beat any Republican. Huckabee gets a real beating; some of the others are within the margin of error.

I did respond. I said if you have proof, post it so that we can have him arested. That’s my response. Do I want you to dig deeper? Sure. Prove it or shut-up.

Wise Golden on January 12, 2008 at 11:15 PM

So even the some isn’t enough to make you wonder yourself? It doesn’t make you curious to research it?

Ask yourself this question, “Do you have blind faith in a Huckabee and you do not question his actions simply because he claims to be a Christian?”

Have him arrested? I never suggested that. And you mentioned unconstitutional. I never suggested that. I was talking about justice. That strawman sure was easy to push down.

Your sudden ‘venomous’ command to shutup has no strength coming from comments that are full of guesses and ambiguousness.

Let me go at this from a different direction…

Pretend that Huck has a blimp.

Okay…now does he have your support?

Wise Golden on January 12, 2008 at 11:30 PM

Your right. If only we had a blimp..maybe then you would understand.

I wish I had a legion of tinfoil wearing crackpots to buy me a friggin’ blimp, that would rule, that lucky bastard.

doubleplusundead on January 12, 2008 at 11:30 PM

Priceless…

Huckabee opposes school choice, earning him the coveted endorsement of the National Education Association of New Hampshire, which is like the sheriff being endorsed by the local whorehouse.

He is, however, in favor of school choice for kids in Mexico: They have the choice of going to school there or here. Huckabee promoted giving in-state tuition in Arkansas to illegal immigrants from Mexico — but not to U.S. citizens from Ohio. “I don’t believe you punish the children,” he said, “for the crime and sins of the parents.”

Since when is not offering someone lavish taxpayer-funded benefits a form of punishment? That’s almost as crazy as a governor pardoning a known sex offender so he can go out and rape and kill.

Huckabee claims he’s against punishing children for the crimes of their fathers in the case of illegal immigrants. But in the case of slavery, he believes the children of the children’s children should be routinely punished for the crimes of their fathers. Huckabee has said illegal immigration gives Americans a chance to make up for slavery. (I thought letting O.J. walk for murdering two people was payback for slavery.)

All that he expected from those south of the border was that they have a desire to provide better opportunities for their families. Basically, we have to keep accommodating everyone but U.S. citizens.

In a widely quoted remark, Huckabee denounced a Republican bill that would merely require proof of citizenship to vote and receive government benefits as “un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life,” according to the Arkansas News Bureau. Now, where have I heard this sort of thing before? Hmmm … wait, now I remember: It was during the Democratic debates!

In his current attempt to pretend to be against illegal immigration, Huckabee makes a meaningless joke about how the federal government should track illegals the way Federal Express tracks packages. (Can a Mexican fit in one of those little envelopes?)

In other words, Huckabee is going to address the problem of illegal immigration by making jokes. It’s called leadership, folks.

He supports a nationwide smoking ban anyplace where people work, constitutional protection for sodomy, big government, higher taxes and government benefits for illegal aliens. According to my calculations, that puts him about three earmarks away from being Nancy Pelosi.

Brother, I accept your apology.

I will say this one more time. I am not suggesting what he did is a crime. He has legal rights to pardon. I question the validity of that right and to excessively abuse it. And to abuse it is an injustice to the victims and their families.

All men will be accountable for their sins. God himself has established non-christian policeman, lawyers, judges and wardens to protect all mankind and to punish evil deeds.

But what if your guy gets it?

So, you hear it here first folks, it doesn’t both Wise that a pro-gay, pro-abortion who seeks to keep God out of schols and who wants no competition in teaching your children is perfectly fine. The fact that a Christian man actually seeks their approval and holds it up as a thing to be proud of makes no matter.

So, would you be opposed to planed parenthood supporting Huck? By your logic it would be no problem at all.

Not too hard to convince me of that. My family is mostly teachers and we’re not big fans of the NEA mafia. But the reality is that they have to endorse a Republican in the primary. I’m guessing that they are holding their nose with Huck.

One of the more notable founding fathers Patrick Henry (1736-99) declared: “This great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.”

apacalyps on January 12, 2008 at 11:25 PM

FYI, Paine was a deist…Paine wrote extensively on the subject of religion, both promoting deism and criticizing Christianity and other religions, especially deriding belief in miracles and other non-naturalistic occurrences. Also, Paine strongly favored the separation of church and state, believing that government should be based on reason, not faith. He believed that the only valid role of government in religious affairs was to protect freedom of religion.

I have listened, to a lot of vague talk yet no responses to his record, and why someone would still support him after knowing his record.

Apacalypse supports him because he believes Huckabee wants this country taken back for Christ, yet doesn’t explain how this can be done with Huckabee associating with groups like the NEA…which clearly have positions in strong opposition to conservatives.

Just. Not. Rational.

1 Cor 15:33

Huck is supported by the NEA, they could have chosen Rudy and no one would have been surprised. But they chose Huck, and for that Huck is proud and makes sure that everyone knows about it.

Fred is a Christian also, maybe not Huck’s southern Baptist stripe, but he is a Christian who believes in the essentials. ( I am Eastern Orthodox and I support Fred who is protestant)

The NEA wouldn’t touch Fred with a 10 foot pole. Why is that?

I just have to think that this is just not an issues issue with the Hucksters, its only about religion and supporting the home team regardless of how bad they play.

HEY! Listen, you can beat each other up about the religion thingy, but in the end, the POTUS doesn’t get to sleep in the Big House because ‘He’ said he could. The POTUS sleeps in the Big House because WE say he can. So deal with it.

I personally don’t care if the POTUS sits in front of a tree, a rock, a dog, or a cross and sorts out his thoughts every day…or once a week…or ever. I’d like him to make sure that our borders are secure, the bad guys get thrown in jail, lights come on at night and mother nature’s domain isn’t desecrated by our citizens. What he (and I emphasize he) does in his personal time, and what principles guide him religiously, don’t much matter to me. He’s surrounded by a bunch of smart, blunt people who will correct him and keep him rational. Right? Isn’t that what the administration’s supposed to do?

Huck can ride the religious wave for awhile, but I suspect that even the hard-core bible bangers will realize, in time, that ‘it’s the economy, stupid’ and come to their senses. You can praise the lord all day long, but man, if there are idiots running across our borders and panic in the streets, you’re going to get your butt handed to you in a heartbeat.

Let’s keep it about politics, not religion, eh?

Don’t forget those Wayne DuMond ads that are rolling out in SC now….

But the reality is that they have to endorse a Republican in the primary. I’m guessing that they are holding their nose with Huck.

Wise Golden on January 12, 2008 at 11:46 PM

My good friend Wise Golden is spinning again for Huck. I know he left and can’t defend himself but NEA usually doesn’t endorse a Republican, so they didn’t this time and didn’t have to hold their nose with Huck. He is the best friend of the teachers’ unions that are destroying this country’s youth. Huck is an evil disease that has nothing good about it. No clemency for Huck’s positions!

apacalyps on January 13, 2008 at 12:32 AM

i didnt need a tutorial, i am well aware of the founding fathers christian and non christian beliefs, ive argued this point with many democrats in my life, defending christianity continually..

I have 5 men to choose from, 1 mormon, and 4 christians…

I WILL NOT base my choice on thier religous beliefs, i will base it on thier conservative principles, and thier records as conservatives, that is all…

Fred gets my vote, his voteing record is 100% pro-life (NTRL endorsement), he will appoint strict constitutionalist judges, he will not intrude on my individual rights, 2nd amendment rights would be safe with Fred, he will secure the border and will not give anyone amnesty (attrition, look at Oaklahoma), he has national security exp from his senate years, and he isnt afraid to tell the truth to the American people, among other things..

If huck is your guy, good for you..thats what those founders you qoute above gave us, the freedom to choose..
I personally don’t consider him as conservative as he is religous, and im not voteing for a minister, i’m voteing for a President.. One who is conservative in all areas, not just a couple, of course this is just my opinion, and i’m hardley awake…

good day

What, that surprises you from Mike, “Hey, no bridges came down in Arkansas” Huckabee?

doubleplusundead on January 12, 2008 at 10:37 PM

I bet the Huckster’s been kicking himself that he didn’t say to Rudy, “No planes got flown into skyscrapers and made them collapse in my state!” That’s okay, though–he’ll probably just save that one for the next debate. Elmer Gantrabee’s so compassionate, and holier than all of us. Just ask him.

ReubenJCogburn on January 13, 2008 at 2:12 AM

“I didn’t get into politics because I thought government had a better answer. I got into politics because I knew government didn’t have the real answers, that the real answers lie in accepting Jesus Christ into our lives… I hope we answer the alarm clock and take this nation back for Christ.” Mike Huckabee 1998

Wait, what? This is the same man who thinks the following?

We need the Federal Government to make social decisions on marriage, abortion, and family policies.
And force energy independence by choosing and spending on alternative energy.
And the Feds should still control Education, no vouchers.
And the Feds should promote Art and Music education.
And the Feds need to be involved in preventative health care.
And the Feds should pick crops for, and subsidize farmers.
ad infinitum…

Is this a man who thinks Government doesn’t have answers? Really?

gekkobear on January 13, 2008 at 2:29 AM

“He reaches outside around the normal Republican box.”

Edited for accuracy.

This is being forwarded to every republican on my email list!

Many that haven’t been paying attention somehow think that Huckabee is a good choice. Well, if you want a liberal, backstabbing, fraud he is your man–otherwise pick Fred, Mitt, Rudy.

Great song!

Evangelical Christians may worry about being the underdog of the Conservative Coalition. However with the direction Mike Huckabee is leading they are on the path to cutting off the rest of the coalition.

Part of a social conservative’s values is the value of justice. Mike Huckabee has allowed mercy to rob justice. Something that Jesus never did.

All of the Presidential Candidates are Christian. Every one. Including the Dems. This is not about Christ, but about charactor.

Wise Golden on January 13, 2008 at 12:08 AM

Do you not think it cheesy and scandalous that Huck uses his religiosity as a prop?
He uses it as a marketing tool. And of course it works, because his followers support him, not because he stands for conservative issues, but simply because he was a Baptist preacher. If Mike Huckabee had not been a Baptist preacher, and you had no idea if he was a Christian or not, would you still support him based on his past performance and his position on issues? Well, if the answer is yes. Then I think you’re really a Democrat anyway. However, you’re just a Christian Democrat. Do you think Jimmy Carter is a man of virtue?

TheSitRep on January 13, 2008 at 10:41 AM

Out of the Chicago Tibune by Rick Pearson.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Mike Huckabee broadened his populist-inspired appeal for support in Michigan on Saturday, saying he viewed his presidential campaign as a “cause” that represents a threat to the Republican establishment in Washington.

With polls showing support in Michigan’s Republican primary Tuesday to be extremely fluid among Mitt Romney, John McCain and Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor also lashed out at candidates who campaign on a theme of opposing abortion but do little about it when they get into office.

“We’re people who will no longer just allow people to get elected, promising that they’re listening to us about the sanctity of human life,” Huckabee said. “We want to elect people who will do something about protecting human life.”

Speaking to about 400 people in a ballroom at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, Huckabee said he loved being in the GOP, “but I love my country even more.”
“I’m asking you today to be a part of something that is a lot more than just a campaign. I want to think it’s a cause,” Huckabee said.

He’s splitting the coalition and proud of it.

a capella on January 13, 2008 at 11:31 AM

My Baptist minister friend wrote back again this morning:

“…I appreciate your apprehension over Huckabee. ‘Used to be’ Baptist preachers make me nervous too.”

Just so.

wccawa on January 13, 2008 at 11:47 AM

All I will say about Hucksterbore is this:

If the powers-that-be in the republican party are stupid enough to make this clown the party’s presidential nominee, then they are going to deserve the severe a$$-waxing that they are going to be getting come next November.

’nuff said.

Dave R. on January 13, 2008 at 12:11 PM

That video was awesome. What it means is horrible, but the vid itself was awesome. I love the “crazy eyes” Huck picture.

BKennedy on January 13, 2008 at 12:17 PM

The last picture is perfect, the predator, no preda-cessor and the suck-cessor, Schmuckabee. One ‘thing’ leads to another don’t it?…If he used to be a preacher, that ’splains alot too.

Yes, that crazy look…Huckabee must be a Dick Nixon/Kevin Spacey clone. If Mikey starts eating bananas without peeling them, we’ll know what’s up.

Christine on January 13, 2008 at 12:50 PM

Check out the latest poll results of the least liked republican candidate and analysis:

So.. this all boils down to the following conclusion: Mike Huckabee is an aberration. Let me explain what I mean and how that came to be.

You’re in the Iowa caucus looking around at your friends and peers going…. “who are you going to vote for?”
I mean… you’re voicing your vote out loud in a public arena, with your peers, with whom you want respect, and, you don’t want to look stupid or out of bounds with the particular group that you’re with at time.

Couple that with the fact, that Huckabee at that time, had not been scrutinized to a large extend, because just a short time before he was mostly an unknown.

To everybody - except for those with an emotional connection to Huckabee, visa vi his Baptist preacher roots - he showed himself to be simply performing and walloping one liners that appealed to his supporters, such as… “the next thing you’re going to see is the gates of hell opening up for you”…..

I mean that one liner and many others by Huckabee were so transparent I almost threw up my popcorn!

If you were paying attention to Huckabee’s hesitations and gaps in his train of thought, you could see he was making them up on the spot, for crying out loud!

Like Rush Limbaugh said: “whatever happened to using the Golden Rule as the guideline for how we treat our enemies?”

I’m sure that those “9-11 tweenagers”, who are now of voting age and have come out to support Mike Huckabee don’t have even the slightest clue what the following statement means:

Mike Huckabee is the fusion reincarnation of Jimmy Baker and William “slick” Jefferson Clinton.

Watch for the “9-11 tweenagers” responses below to confirm their ignorance of these matters.

Mcguyver on January 13, 2008 at 1:29 PM

a capella on January 13, 2008 at 11:31 AM

So is the Wolfpack Media. They’re pushing The Huckster, McCain, and Giuliani.

It’s Romney and Thompson for us Moderate Democrats…none of the others. If not those two, we WILL STAY HOME IN NOVEMBER!!!!

DfDeportation on January 13, 2008 at 3:33 PM

Imagine you have a guy working for you. You ask him: “Is the work done?” And he answers “Hey, when my Mom sits around the house she really sits around the house”. You ask him: “Why are you late?” and he answers: “How many blondes does it take to screw in a light bulb?”.

This is how this vicious passive-aggressive lier Huckabee is treating his potential boss, the American people. Give this village idiot a pink slip!

Igor R. on January 13, 2008 at 5:19 PM

That video is priceless. I hope somebody makes it into a commercial and runs it in Michigan and S.C. Maybe they should include some photos of some of the innocent victims of the Huckster’s “compassion” for vicious criminals — like the two Missouri women who were raped and murdered by Wayne Dumond after the Huckster pressured the Arkansas parole board to release him.

AZCoyote on January 13, 2008 at 5:23 PM

Huck loves the illegals:

JAMES DOBSON, YOU CAN STICK A FORK INTO YOUR LEGACY, IF YOU EVEN DARE COME OUT AND SAY ANYTHING POSITIVE ABOUT MIKE HUCKABEE!

As much as James Dobson as helped the culture in the past, no past success, guarantees it in the future.
