First Chris Matthews, now the wire that won’t call terrorists terrorists.
Update (AP): “I’m the jackpot.”

Kinda messianic that when you follow that photo link to #54 you go from Obama to a bunch of eagles too wet to fly!

I am sitting here trying to shake off the cobwebs of too much cabernet last night while debating my uber liberal neighbors on the west side of LA. Now THIS is the first thing I have to see…..please post these things later in the day. I am going to wretch.
moseby on January 12, 2008 at 11:24 AM
Hey photogs–isnt’ this a filter thing? That is, are the photographers specifically setting up to get the rainbow halo?
TexasDan on January 12, 2008 at 11:25 AM
DRUNK REPORT ROCKS!!!!!
Your Jewish Master on January 12, 2008 at 11:26 AM
Additionally, I would think no photographer worth spit would have taken that shot except for the halo. He’s not silhouetted properly for a dramatic shot of that nature, and the exposure and composition are absolute crap but for the rainbow ring.
Apparently the “hard to be objective” malady now affects the photojournalists as well.

Barack is short for “Mubarak,” an Arabic word, meaning “the blessed one”

yes. both words share the same three letter root of b-r-k. reuters loves it
blatantblue on January 12, 2008 at 11:43 AM
I would of deleted the photo. It is a horrible photo with lens flare. Bit Reuters seen the light, so they ran it, just as HotAir predicted.
Wasting shots of a persons back 3/4, the shot is junk, without the light, I say the light ruined it even more, but not to his flock.

Lots of great schooling at that Madrassas as a kid. Wonder if his textbooks left Israel out of the map and if they said to go and find the infidels and kill them where you find them?
ReaganConservative3 on January 12, 2008 at 11:47 AM
You know, if “journalists” would spend more time reporting and less time trying to justify their political fantasies, we might take them more seriously.
And biased photojournalism isn’t exactly new – as I’m sure the old-timers around here will remember.

“The rainbow effect is caused by lens flare from the light in the background.”
Why are they so sure they aren’t just rays of hope?
amkun on January 12, 2008 at 12:19 PM
This is exactly correct. Lens flare does not, by itself, create a rainbow spectrum; there needs to be a prismatic effect that ordinary lens elements will not produce. A filter would be needed – and, most likely, a screw-in filter that takes a few seconds to fish out of the camera bag or pocket, at that. So we’re talking about malice of forethought here.
The alternative explanation is that it could be been created in Photoshop afterward, but that is an even less flattering possibility…

TexasDan on January 12, 2008 at 1:11 PM
Bryan,
You may recall this past week when I posed the question whether it was blasphemous to photoshop a halo on Obama. Your response? (paraphrase) “No need to. The MSN will do it for us.”
I tip my hat to your supernatural powers.
p.s. Would you hook a brother up with some Powerball Loto picks?
p.s.s. There’s an I-Pod in it for AP.

I love it how the word “messiah” gets thrown around at any candidate you don’t like. Huckabee held the title, McCain too, Obama, Al Gore, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
Nonfactor on January 12, 2008 at 6:07 PM
This is a pretty standard political photo. I’ve got some that were taken of both Bush’s and both Clintons. Usually it’s just something round and bright behind them combined with a large aperature which gives the out-of-focue “halo” effect. Like I said, standard political stuff. It’s just red meat for the faithful, whatever it is they’re faithful to.

Okay — I addressed this with the HA folks months ago, and it seems that it worked for a while. But now I see that “lan astaslem” is back. This was originally my nickname, but when you showed up, I changed my nickname to include caps — just to differentiate between the two of us. I really, really would appreciate it if you would select a new nickname. I was here first, and it is confusing to have two posters with the same name. Thank you!!
Lan Astaslem on January 14, 2008 at 11:15 AM
Lan Astaslem — seems popular. And that’s probably a good thing…
