Video: Mitt Romney’s “Pride of America” ad

This is a well-crafted ad that would be perfect for a run at the Michigan governor’s mansion. It would strike fear into Gov. Granholm’s tax-raising heart. Is it enough to blunt Huckabee’s Michigan strategy that, ahem, I saw coming before anyone else?

Mitt Romney did pick up a couple of key endorsements today, from the Grand Rapids Press and the Oakland Press. Romney has left South Carolina to campaign full-time round-the-clock in Michigan for the Tuesday primary, which is a return to the beginning in more ways than one: It’s not only a home state and the state where his father was governor, it’s where Mitt launched his own run for the presidency. And it’s a state in which he now needs to win. Daniel Gross steals a base or two on the way to saying that Mitt might have a hard time in Michigan.

Is it enough to blunt Huckabee’s Michigan strategy…?

Gosh, I can’t imagine why Huck always gets the religion questions in debates.

And it’s a state in which he now needs to win.

Cart before horse?

As for that article assessing his chances as gloomy, there ain’t no way Mitt is going to change his free-market views.

Personally hopes Romney stays to the end; Not particularly fond of a few states deciding who I get to vote for in the next presidential election by simply holding their electoral process early.

Very nice ad!

I never trust an candidate that uses the word “pride” as part of their slogan. “Pride” is not a virtue.

Great ad. This is a great ad.

Detroit used to define Americana. Way to tap into that. I think this and Rudy’s jihad ad are the two best of the year so far.

Maybe he should get himself some Obama girl flava?

Why do you resent corporations and wealth so much?

Rush did a great monologue on this today. He said that there has never been a CEO, or a big corporation who did anything to hurt him, but government with its confiscatory taxes, rules which tell him what lightbulbs he can use, what car to drive, and so forth can, and have, inflicted a lot of pain.

MB4 on January 11, 2008 at 4:20 PM

The ad is total nothing. It says he will work hard. That is what George Bush said in 2004 and you see what that has got us? Pres Bush has done a good job in Iraq, pretty good in Aghanistan, but he has totally surrendered to the palestinian arab terrorists Fatah and Hamas, he has left the US borders wide open, he put Condi “Neville Chamberlain” Rice at state, he has totally failed in North Korea, he has totally failed in stopping Iran from getting the bomb, the initial tax cuts were good work, but he has done nothing else for the economy, well he has done great things for the economy of Saudi and Kuwait and UAE and Russia and Nigeria…

And why discuss this here: Because Mitt is another George Bush. Silver spoon boy who has no idea about what the average American needs to do to make a living and who will go with the big international corporate interests that support the Saudis etc, just like Pres Bush. Mitt would be better that any of the Dems, but that is not saying much.

We need a real problem solver who knows what it is like to live as a regular person; someone that will not back down to the Islamists and someone who will force the Dems to do at least some of what is right: We need Rudy!!!

georgealbert on January 11, 2008 at 4:23 PM

Bryan on January 11, 2008 at 4:11 PM

That was a smear, and I don’t see what the practical result would be in a primary anyway.

Does he think Huck is going to get their vote, especially after his “gates of hell” comment last night? How about McCain?

Won’t those voters go for Obama (if we are even to believe that they are so offended in the first place)?

Entelechy on January 11, 2008 at 4:32 PM

Here is a lesson for the class warfare people pretending to be conservatives.

THERE was a man in our town, and he was wondrous rich;
He gave away his millions to the colleges and sich;
And people cried: “The hypocrite! He ought to understand
The ones who really need him are the children of this land.”
When Andrew Croesus built a home for children who were sick,
The people said they rather thought he did it as a trick,
And writers said: “He thinks about the drooping girls and boys,
But what about conditions with the men whom he employs?”
There was a man in our town who said that he would share
His profits with his laborers, for that was only fair,
And people said: “Oh, isn’t he the shrewd and foxy gent?
It cost him next to nothing for that free advertisement.”
There was a man in our town who had the perfect plan
To do away with poverty and other ills of man,
But he feared the public jeering, and the folks who would defame him,
So he never told the plan he had, and I can hardly blame him.

Sorry, I must have confused you with some of the class-envy types who loathe Mitt because, in their view, he’s a spoiled rich kid and if not for his privileged background, blah blah blah.

I know that Michigan is in a recession, but how are CEO’s responsible? Doesn’t it have more to do with not being able to compete with the Asian Tiger? And let’s not forget that CEOs like Henry Ford and George Romney did great things for the Michigan economy.

Please tell me you’re actually a liberal, because conservatives don’t engage in class warfare crap like that.

You’re absolutely right that PC and class envy are dangerous - it’s like a cancer from within.

Ironically Huck has the one proposal (the Fair Tax) that would go along way to eliminate the class warfare problem, since it would get rid of the Progressive Income tax which pits one group against the other, yet Huck is the one candidate playing that envy game to the hilt.

The Good News is that Edwards “class Warfare’ message is dead in the Democratic party. The bad news is that its alive in the republican party.

Unfortunately a Mitt vs Huck matchup is what Huck wants. He can engage in the “poor mothers” routine in responce to Mitt’s corporate stance and he can play the “Im an evangelical to Mitt’s morman beliefs.

Im sorry but Mitt is the guy the huckelberry round wants to face.

For all the talk of disenfranchisement over the last few elections, the caucus system in several of these states seems to be the most corrupting, anti-democratic influence on the process that there is.

People should only be able to vote within their declared party, and all on one day or by absentee ballot. I think local government is great, but if the federal government should be allowed to standardize anything, it ought to be the national election process.

And you better keep that lawyer theory quiet or I envision Huck using that against Fred with push-polls:

Because you have to take your strong-hold states to make up for the areas that you are weak in. Mitt is weak in the South and he’ll need all of those delegates in the Mid-west to get him to 1231.

Everyone who trumpets the msm line that the candidate leading in delegates and with the most consistent percentage of support is in a win or get out situation.

I live in Florida and I’m being told that if Romney doesn’t win michigan, a state that has consistently elected the losers that have caused it’s economic collapse, I should not have the opportunity to vote for Romney. That’s a ludicrous statement and it’s being made by journalists and the hired guns of the other candidates and trumpeted by conservative pundits. So much for a representative republic. Might as well let the northern states and californis elect our national leadeers from here on out. And by the way, Fredheads, if they succeed with Romney all their efforts will be on Fred.
