I saw this earlier at the Corner and have been suffering ever since. Thus, now you must share that suffering. That’s what being a Hot Air reader means. You’re a team player.
I say: Dubbed.

Great, more RENT flashbacks.
Thanks.
The Ugly American on January 11, 2008 at 9:57 PM
Great for voice over work, he probably has a very lucrative career. It gets even better -
AprilOrit on January 11, 2008 at 10:27 PM
He was in a contest for Broadway guys, give him a break.
AprilOrit on January 11, 2008 at 10:31 PM
I find it highly amusing that so many of you seem so—familiar—with Aladdin and the song.
Not dubbed. Falsetto used to be teh cool. Remember Frankie Valli?
Meryl Yourish on January 11, 2008 at 10:34 PM
I’ve heard that in medieval times they used to castrate young boys with singing talent so their voice didn’t get deeper when they hit puberty.
Highwayman on January 11, 2008 at 10:36 PM
If I’m going to listen to a man sing like a woman, I’ll listen to Klaus Nomi
and this is another clip.
This is his documentary.
I’m surprised no one has brought him up yet. He’s a highly trained opera singer and much better than the hack singing Disney.
nottakingsides on January 11, 2008 at 10:41 PM
I remember it being played to death on the radio (Roberta Flack-Peabo Bryson version, IIRC).
baldilocks on January 11, 2008 at 10:45 PM
Nope, not dubbed. Amazing talent.
Krydor on January 11, 2008 at 10:48 PM
I think he’s pretty amazing actually.
AprilOrit on January 11, 2008 at 10:50 PM
That’s a combination of Barry Manilow and Barry Gibbs
Texyank on January 11, 2008 at 11:04 PM
I think this is pretty amazing for vocal range. Go to 2:20
wryteacher on January 11, 2008 at 11:17 PM
Why – some of the posters have kids and some of us have cousins, nieces and nephews, and it’s a great piece of music. All of the Disney stuff is great, IMHO.
AprilOrit on January 11, 2008 at 11:17 PM
He’s pretty darn good. I have no idea how he could exploit that talent, however.
The actual Disney version on youtube was eh. The Peabo Bryson/Regina Belle version is the one everyone heard on the radio.
My favorite version is one done on a live show in Korea, by Charice Pempengco and Kyu Hyun.
And I never saw the movie. :)

Paul Potts puts them all to shame:
Watch Paul Win
Nelsa on January 11, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Not dubbed. He has a very smooth transition to his falsetto but it has the same nasal quality as his regular voice. Note especially at about 1:45. His “female” voice slips briefly down to his normal range. Impressive, if you’re into this kind of music.
JackOfClubs on January 11, 2008 at 11:42 PM
I’ll take the Disney Broadway Contest singing with 2 voices stuff over this tired crap any day…
AprilOrit on January 11, 2008 at 11:47 PM
It’s not dubbed, sorry.
Ortzinator on January 12, 2008 at 12:57 AM
Highwayman, I agree. Much better to use falsetto than to be castrato!
T J Green on January 12, 2008 at 1:04 AM
Wow. I remember Klaus Nomi. I remember seeing videos of him at the 9:30 Club back in the very early 80’s (when the 9:30 club was actually at 9:30 F St. in NW Washington). You just blew my mind.
foxforce91 on January 12, 2008 at 1:11 AM
Nelsa on January 11, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Thank you Nelsa, he sings fantastic. We will be seeing him
all around the world. Such a great talent. And to think he
was/is a phone salesman.
Tom N on January 12, 2008 at 1:46 AM
TJ, I’d much rather listen to baritone. But that’s just me.
Highwayman on January 12, 2008 at 2:07 AM
Why – some of the posters have kids and some of us have cousins, nieces and nephews
Renowned for it.
Now if only I can find a woman with the steel of Maleficent, the open-mindedness of Snow White (or Belle) , the devotion of Ariel, the patience of the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio …
Somehow it always seems to be Night on Bald Mountain. From Fantasia, you dirty minded buggers.
Uncle Pinky on January 12, 2008 at 2:09 AM
Pretty good pipes.
At least it isn’t that goofy dude with the really deep voice. Chocolate rain dude.
csdeven on January 12, 2008 at 2:18 AM
I’ll second that.
It is a bizarre talent for hime to sing fairly convincingly as both parts, but at least his male range seems marketable.
Captain Scarlet on January 12, 2008 at 3:48 AM
This is why closets are small rooms with a door.
Coronagold on January 12, 2008 at 6:52 AM
It has to be dubbed, because I did see the normal reaction a body would express when a broom stick has been inserted to increase the octaves.
However, the song will shortly be adopted by the Hitlery campaign so she can claim two voter groups for the price of one, while she is on her road to OZ.
MSGTAS on January 12, 2008 at 9:07 AM
Guess I’m not much of a team player. I only got 25 seconds in before I stopped it.
thekingtut on January 12, 2008 at 9:56 AM
Not dubbed. He could be part of the Bee Gee’s new tour. Pretty darn talented.
txsurveyor on January 12, 2008 at 10:06 AM
Remember Paul Stanley?
Reaps on January 12, 2008 at 11:20 AM
I had to wring myself dry after that one. Amazing. Thank you SO MUCH!
RushBaby on January 12, 2008 at 11:53 AM
My vote, not dubbed – considering I was able to sing along with it and do both parts as well (although I don’t sound quite as good as he does).
Fatal on January 12, 2008 at 2:24 PM
I think that is pretty good and something only a rare few can do…
CCRWM on January 12, 2008 at 2:52 PM
Highly doubt it’s dubbed. Not Lea Salonga, but impressive none the less.
funkengruven on January 12, 2008 at 4:07 PM
No, not dubbed. There is a disconnect that occurs between the face and voice, but its no different than I get with, say, RickRoll’d. Overall, I liked it. Keep supplying the crack, Allah, I’ll keep smoking it. :D
PolitiNOOB on January 12, 2008 at 4:23 PM
I think he like sausage
Drtuddle on January 12, 2008 at 4:27 PM
Does he have any CD’s out?
That’s pretty awesome possum.
Capitana on January 12, 2008 at 6:54 PM
I’ve opened two major arteries and have shot myself in the head….. but I’m still hearing this song. I guess there is a hell.
dougless on January 13, 2008 at 9:59 AM
He’ll never be another Klaus Nomi.
