Rush: Listener response to Fred’s attack on Huck was almost “orgasmic”

Red meat by the chunkful, topped off by a long quasi-conspiratorial rant about the media playing favorites. He’s not so much pro-Fred (although he’s clearly that) as anti-Huck, but either way it’ll help in South Carolina: Don’t think McCain’s not going to be taking on-air beatings too as the primary approaches and the RINO hunt gears up. Afterglow:
As Thompson toured the town of Georgetown, he was enveloped by several well-wishers who cooed over his performance at last night’s debate…
“I mean, I can ‘out’ poorboy any of them. I grew up in more modest circumstances than any of them on that stage,” said Thompson, who was raised in a small Tennessee town. “But I grew up in a free country where I knew if I behaved myself, I had a chance at the American dream.”
Big numbers last night so cross your fingers. Elsewhere, the crack nutroots brain trust plots to restore viability to the only Republican candidate with the money and organization to make life difficult for them next fall.

I don’t know about orgasmic, but it definitely made me want to stand up and cheer. You know us conservatives are always complaining about none of these candidates have conservative values across the board on all the issues. But I think Fred does, we’ve just let a few votes here and there when he was in the senate sway our judgement. All politicians have a vote here and there that are questionable but they usually have circumstances.
Thompson is strong military, anti-big government spending, anti-amnesty for illegals in any way, and pro conservative judges with a lifelong record to back it up. That’s what we’re looking for – so let’s start backing it up folks! Plus he’s got a great personality to boot so where’s the downside? It’s not too late as some fools keep saying.

It is okay to hit McCain on his record, his stances, positions anything to do with his career in politics. Don’t be afraid. Hell do like the Dems will do. Thank him for his service and then issue a big BUT and nail him. If he is such big, bad, military tough guy who commanded the “largest squandron in Vietnam”, he should be able to take it. Count how many times Fred says ‘ummm’ in those clips. . . close to zero. It makes a difference.
Notice also how Rush is trying to pick that it is definitely NOT going to be McCain and Huckabee while he decries those who say they will likely win. Rush is trying to dictate the terms and using nonstop commentary too.
He’s got good points, but Fred should have beaten Huckabee in Iowa, and he should have spent time in NH (and not snubbed them for Leno to announce his candidacy). He has nobody to blame but his own campaign strategy.

Rush himself is being hammered for being an “indulgant” elite only worried about his pocketbooks. He is entitled to his opinion, but just because I listen to him, doesn’t mean I or many others are mindless zombies. I find it funny when people go on about talk radio as if those of us who listen can’t make up our own minds. I’m tired of Rush’s requests for deeper analysis of Huckabee, when he has NOT done the same with other candidates. Practice what you preach, Rush. No matter how many times some “conservative” wins based on your checklist, the country goes much further left over the course of time. Someone tell Limbaugh to put a lid on it. We’re getting tired already.
Mike Huckabee– a true conservative, a man of honor, pro-life, pro-gun rights, less taxes, securing the borders, fighting terrorism, etc., etc.
apacalyps on January 11, 2008 at 4:28 PM
Sites like this should be careful not to morph into the drive-by pundits discussed by Rush.
I’ve heard “too late” on this site as well. And as Rush put…”after two states?”
What I want, and I believe any thinking American wants, Left or Right, are debates. Ideas outlined and discussed and argued about. Allow, us, the voter, to know the candidates and we will make an informed vote.
I am tired of polls, of pollsters, of commenters and of critics, and of compilers and of bet-takers. Tired.
Let’s hear about the issues, let’s hear about the candidates’s viewpoints, then let’s vote.
Let’s not allow people to continue to carve careers out of political polling and snarky commentary.
I like what I hear Thompson say. I want to hear more from Mitt and Guiliani.
McCain….eh..I still can’t get over his shamnesty love affair. John, you lost me at shamnesty.
Ron Paul? Oh please. The man is a nutcase. He drags the debate down like a Hippy-Che-T-shirt-wearing-Rastafarian-hat-sporting-college-kid at a conversation on foreign policy.
Montana on January 11, 2008 at 4:29 PM
Huck does the same damn thing. It’s because of this I will vote Democratic with great joy if he gets the nomination.
It’s like Rush said. Hucks supporters (like Perot’s were) are functioning totally on a cult mentality. They – by definition – are not thinking. They’re attachment to him is %100 emotional. All he has to do is tell them he’s a pastor, word gets around in their sectarian home-schooling groups, and they’re brains switch off just like that.
No offense brother but (again like Rush said) I’ll believe that witch is dead when I see the legs shrivel up underneath the house that’s been dropped on her.
Call me cynical but right now I believe there are as many evangelical Christians in this country who are “Against Huckabee” as there are “Moderate Muslims” who are “Against Terrorism.”
You can pray in one hand and crap in the other – see where that gets you. It sure as hell won’t change who Huckabee is, and if evangelicals do manage to get him the nomination it’ll be a hard lesson from the Good Lord above that they’ll have most deservedly coming to them.
thareb on January 11, 2008 at 4:31 PM
IMO, the focus on Huck last night was just right. Fred needs conservative evangelical votes in SC, and Huck is counting on those. McCain goes after the independent & military votes, and I don’t think he can expect the numbers of evangelicals Huck will get. Fred’s strategy is to peel off a large part of Huck’s evangelical support, while letting McCain take out the well-funded Romney in Michigan. If the strategy works, Fred’s conservative history will be a strong base to contrast with the Maverick’s history when the time is right to take him out. Also, Fred needed to show vigor without being the angry dude taking on everybody in the debate, i.e. going too negative.

Fred has to attack Huck. He and McCain are not going after the same Republican votes. He’s already clearly outlined his differences related to immigration and not jumping across the isle in regards to McCain (well, ok, other than campaign finance…)
…but still Fred knows his best hope is to expose Huck for the liberal that he is, so that conservatives will take a real look at positions rather than voting for someone that can quote the Bible. (as nice as that might be).
If Fred could line up a Rush endorsement prior to SC it would be HUGE. I predict that if he wins SC he’ll be portrayed as the front runner, and that will make all the difference.
Go Fred!

I really hope Fred can pull this one out and end forever the “if you don’t vote for me you hate Jesus” candidate.
What really bugged me about the Luntz thing last night was how some of those people said it was too late. They don’t vote for another ten days, how is it too late? Maybe SC is NOT as independent as they claim they are.

Both Fred and Mitt (and Hunter, if allowed to debate!) have got to hit McCain, Huck, and Guliani hard – VERY HARD – on “amnesty” with stories like these: enforcing the law actually works. Surprise, surprise.
Rewarding illegal behavior with “earned residency”, “pathway to citizenship”, blah, blah, blah, and accepting bribes (is it a $3000

Sorry I come across as harsh – but Huckabee’s crap has a way of slithering into your backyard as something innocuous.
Last December my entire Sunday School group got a chain-letter email from one of our members talking about how people spotting the “Floating Bookshelf” cross was an “Attack on Christians” – very much putting Huck in a sympathetic light, singing his praises, etc.
Awwwwwwwwww…. excuse me but how about a nice hot cup of shut-the-f*ck-up.
I know my language doesn’t come across as Christian but I can assure you I am. I make the assumption that the internet is for adults only. I sure as hell don’t let my kids browse freely, and if you do well… wake the hell up.
Dude. YOU HAVE TO STOP THIS SH*T AT THE SOURCE.
Once I received that email I let everyone in our group know exactly what kind of man Huckabee was and that I would be sitting out the election if he got the nomination. We’re a fairly polite group so the conversation didn’t carry on much past that point.
But seriously. If you go to Church and people are talking about this asshat like he’s the way to go you have to man-up and stop this bullsh*t in it’s tracks.

thearab, Huckabee hurts evangelical Christians a whole lot more than any other candidate because he has shown them to be gullible and likely to fall, en masse, for a snake oil salesman.
Or at least he makes them look that way, which is all the “religious Right” haters need to go with that characterization. Unfortunately the facts aren’t good:
Huckabee’s Limits [Ramesh Ponnuru]
Sorry for my unplanned hiatus from the Corner. (You did notice I was gone, right?)
Anyway, two points about Huckabee (and forgive me if I’m repeating things that others have said here already). First: Those of us who have argued that Huckabee’s campaign, as it stands, will have very limited appeal for non-evangelicals got a little confirmation from the New Hampshire exit polls. Twenty-three percent of people who voted in the Republican primary there said they were evangelical or born-again Christians. Among the 77 percent who weren’t, Huckabee got only 6 percent. Among those voters, Huckabee placed fifth, behind even Ron Paul.

I think it’s time to re-release my Iowa Huck song with a couple of tiny locale-related changes:
Huck, the magic dragon spinning in SC
Pandered like a maniac for everyone to see.
Little Chuckie Norris loved that rascal Huck,
although he was by all accounts as dumb as hockey puck. Oh
(Chorus, twice)
Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Chuckie kept a lookout perched on Huck’s gigantic tail,
Noble mainstream media would bow whene’er they came,
DNC would not complain when Huck roared out his name. Oh
(Chorus)
Huck flip-flops forever but not so steady Fred
So when the truth about Huck’s known they’ll vote for Fred instead.
One grey night it happened, Chuckie came no more
And Huck that mighty dragon, he ceased his pointless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Huck no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, Huck could not be brave,
So Huck that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. Oh

thareb and RobTN held hands with each other while typing anti-Huckabee sentiment on January 11, 2008 at around 4 PM. Then Gothguy (dressed in all-black) gay and excited joined them and wrote,
Prove it! (re: Huckabee being a true conservative.)
I have laid out the bread and butter things Huck wants to do to better the country:
-Abolish the IRS and institute the Fair Tax.
-Failing that, he wants to cut taxes and cut spending.
-He has taken the no new tax pledge.
-He wants to stay in Iraq until the job is done and we are successful.
-He wants to stay on offense on the war on terror.
-He is committed to denting Iran nuclear weapons.
-He wants to protect the sanctity of unborn life.
-He wants to protect traditional marriage.
-He has introduced a plan to secure the border without amnesty.
-He wants to change th health care system to a more preventive focused one and opposes government controlled universal health care.
Which of those are so bad? Which do you want to debate?
Tip: A two-sided statement is more respected by the general public fella’s than just spewing what you have read on anti-ANYTHING. If you want to be a journalist, RESEARCH!!! I’m sooooooo tired of lazy journalism.

It took four hours, but one of them finally figured out:
Seriously, if Mitt loses Michigan, he blows the expectations game and probably won’t recover. If he wins, he can tout how we both won the primary and has far and away the most delegates, assuming that Huckabee places third or worse, likely after New Hampshire. It may mean that the primaries have a week or two more “chaos,” but, with the compacted schedule, having nine versus nine-and-a-half months to campaign isn’t really going to make that much difference. Having mainstream Mitt versus talk-show-host Huckabee is going to make a greater difference in the end.

Rush made a very good point. We have only gone through 2 states. If a moron like Ron Paul is still in the race, who the hell is anybody to suggest Fred is a sure loss?!
Anything is possible right now. More $ to Fred so the wife can keep looking smokin’ hot!

Well, that’s not surprising. He is like a big brother (well let me capitalize that Big Brother) to me. We sit around the dinner table and joke about how he’s fooled everyone with that Global Warming racket. That’s the only thing to do when you’re around Al, cuz you know there’s no food left after a few minutes with that guy.

Fred Thompson has about the same amount of experience as the democrats…why should we run him against the dems?
He’s the only one who the dems can claim they have more experience than.
Senators should not be presidents….John Mccain and Fred Thompson should humbly resign.

Besides….If Thompson happened to win…you know jeri would run against him next term.
She’s the only one in his family that really wants to be president.
