“No woman is illegal”: Hillary plays gender politics with illegal immigration

It’s one line, but it’s a telling line.
Clinton and her busload of traveling press moved from there to the popular local Mexican restaurant Lindo Michoacan, where a “roundtable” that was actually square passed a microphone around to tell her people’s concerns about the mortgage crisis and foreclosures. She took notes and munched on tortilla chips.
In broken English, one woman told Clinton how she wasn’t making money as a broker anymore.
“I have no income at all,” she said. “So how will I survive?”
Choking up with emotion, the woman said, “In my neighborhood, there are brand-new homes, but the value is nothing. I’m glad you are here so I can tell you, because you’re going to be the president, I know.”
A man shouted through an opening in the wall that his wife was illegal.
“No woman is illegal,” Clinton said, to cheers.
No woman is illegal? What does that even mean? Maybe she means to “liberate” a whole lot more women than she has been letting on, and won’t let a little thing like the law get in her way.
Update (AP): Compare and contrast with this rhetoric used for a very different audience.

She is a dullard, as are the imbeciles who buy her shallow puddles of fake emoting.
Did Margaret Thatcher play on gender politics as much as this person?
benrand on January 11, 2008 at 8:58 AM
I doubt it. Unlike Hillary, Thatcher was a real leader.

If she’s an illegal alien, she is.
amerpundit on January 11, 2008 at 9:00 AM
Good question. We damned better figure that out before November! I don’t want Clinton brand amnesty anymore than I want McCain brand amnesty!
One positive thing is that she didn’t use the more PC term “undocumented citizen” to describe illegals. That’s like calling a drug dealer an unlicensed pharmacist. Then again, “no woman is undocumented” doesn’t have quite the ring to an audience that clearly wants blanket amnesty of all the illegals that infest the country.

Did Hillary remind the guy whose wife is illegal to have her register to vote?
Just askin’
FloridaBill on January 11, 2008 at 9:02 AM
Trying to sew up that illegal vote one lie at a time.
bbz123 on January 11, 2008 at 9:03 AM
Not to worry my friends, Hillary will fix all that ails this great nation. I can’t wait to get my free health care. I plan on being at the front of the line. And after that she can pay my mortgage, I wouldn’t mind sitting at home all day watching my big screen HD TV.

Monica has nothing on Shillery Round mouth Clinton. Another vote = just another job.
leanright on January 11, 2008 at 9:10 AM
This really bothers me. I think every candidate knows exactly what his/her plan is for dealing with Illegal immigration and they talk about it as little as they can get away with. The press seems incapable of of asking serious questions so far about anything of consequence.
Like McCain…. “I get the message. First and foremost the borders must be closed.”
BEFORE YOU DO WHAT? Quadruple our immigration limits and grant amnisty for all illegals not guilty of mass murder??
This country is about to enter a recession and no one is talking about the overburden these illegals put on our welfare system. As far as the candidates and the press are concerned these glaring problems don’t exist.
It would be nice if these so called debates would touch on some real issues instead of hand raising.

I know of plenty of illegal women. They gather en masse on any given streetcorner in Farmingville, NY, only miles from my home. And they don’t speak a word of English.
Spanglemaker on January 11, 2008 at 9:13 AM
And no Clinton is compassionate.

You know them?-=Just jokes.
I get that you mean that they are in the same business as Shillery, just a different position.

and no man is ever unfaithful.
JayHaw Phrenzie on January 11, 2008 at 9:40 AM
This is just nutty
We are really seeing HRC say or do ANYTHING, no matter the self-imposed contradiction, to get votes. I guess all illegal women should stay, because they’re women. Now who’s practicing the sexism hmmm?
FLcapitalistthug on January 11, 2008 at 9:42 AM
Remind me again.
What legislation has our congress passed to deal with the 20 million illegals who have set up shop here?
Better yet, why isn’t the INS enforcing our existing laws already on the books?
When will these questions be asked at a debate?
fogw on January 11, 2008 at 9:43 AM
Not at all, that’s why she won.
JamesP on January 11, 2008 at 9:44 AM
Did anyone ask if she votes?

Well I know at least one who should be.
srhoades on January 11, 2008 at 9:54 AM
She is a teeny bopper.
I don’t tihnk she’s let all that high school and freshman year crap go.
I don’t get the feeling from her of authority or responsibility.
But then, I am thinking, and the jackasses that buy her lame infomercial crap can’t be bothered to engage the walnut sized thing known as their mind.
benrand on January 11, 2008 at 9:57 AM
Save this for the general.
frreal on January 11, 2008 at 9:57 AM
So does that mean all men are? Just askin’?
Hening on January 11, 2008 at 9:58 AM
Amen! This would not even be an issue this election cycle if they did!

No woman is illegal, but an unborn one is still fair game.

No need to ask. She registered Democrat.
We don’ need no shtinkin’ ideez
drjohn on January 11, 2008 at 10:43 AM
Does this mean I can now fly to any country I want and run past the visa line shouting “no one is illegal”? I dare Hillary to try that in Iran or China or even Mexico.
The problem with these “human rights” visions is that they ignore sovereignty and we are the only country that buys into them. Just like every other nation, we have borders and a right to our sovereignty.
culturism on January 11, 2008 at 11:02 AM
We can have all sorts of fun with this incident, but I seriously hope that the Republicans do not let this go. We know where the country is on illegal immigration.
We cannot let Hillary get away with this sort of pandering that flies in the face of the laws of this country. She should get clubbed over the head over and over and over for this statement!
D2Boston on January 11, 2008 at 11:22 AM
Did he say his wife was a woman?
Just askin’
FoByFo on January 11, 2008 at 11:33 AM
Does that mean that a man can be illegal, then? Well, slap my sculpted derriere and call me Sally! Her Highness may have just cut the criminal immigration population in half right then and there, all by redefining what is and is not “illegal”! And you thought Bubba was the only Clinton who could bastardize the English language?
Additionally, would this dude’s wife get a driver’s license? I mean, Hellary supposedly is opposed to driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants (unless she’s back to being for them again…after all, it has been a while since anyone asked), right? So if a woman can’t be here illegally, does that mean the woman gets a license but the man does not?
crushliberalism on January 11, 2008 at 11:45 AM
Hillary, in the general
Entelechy on January 11, 2008 at 11:56 AM
Seriously — that’s the type of question someone needs to ask this moron in the next debate… and the one after that… etc.
D2Boston on January 11, 2008 at 12:22 PM
“No human being is illegal” is one of the Dem’s talking points. Denny K used it already in one of the earlier debates. It is clearly moronic, like so many of the Dem’s talking points. “Illegal” refers to a person’s immigration status, not their status as a human being, or a woman. Pretending otherwise just lowers the level of public discourse on the very important issue of illegal immigration. But the Dem’s are pandering to Hispanics, part of their base, by making these idiotic statements.
AZCoyote on January 11, 2008 at 12:58 PM
Why is it now convenient for Hillary to come out and state that “no woman is illegal”? Rather than argue the point, I’d like to know what has happened since the driver’s license flap that makes her comfortable enough to say this. She wouldn’t say it out loud a couple weeks ago; but now it’s OK? What gives?

Does anyone know if the Democrats in Nevada will check the citizenship status of the people participating in their caucus?
Mark1971 on January 11, 2008 at 3:26 PM
Some good news on this issue. Only 46 states to go, before Hillary, Obama, McCain, Guliani, or Huckabee screw it up at the federal level.
fred5678 on January 11, 2008 at 3:57 PM
…So are male Mexicans still ‘illegal’?
Capitana on January 11, 2008 at 4:29 PM
Why don’t Democrats understand that, if they really want our immigration policies to reflect compassion and opportunity for immigrants, then we must RESPECT and UPHOLD our immigration laws? Illegal aliens are a slap in the face to law abiding citizens and foreigners seeking legal entry. Perhaps instead of fleeing Mexico, Mexicans should demand their government clean up it’s act. But the government of that country is so perverted and corrupt, they see no recourse but to flee to America for a better life. But guess what? The reason we have it good here in the first place is Rule of Law, and respect for Rule of Law. In America you can succeed if you play by the rules, and anyone who wants to ignore the rules or say the don’t apply to them should be dealt with appropriately: deportation.
mattyj86 on January 11, 2008 at 4:33 PM
Yep. The illegal vote is a lock with this kind of talk.
Thank goodness the Supremes seem to be heading in the direction of upholding voter ID laws.
madmonkphotog on January 11, 2008 at 5:55 PM
I would love to know if anyone actually challenged her on this and said ‘what the hell do you actually mean by that?’
Somehow I doubt it as it is the logical thing to do…and well Dems…logic…not exactly best friends.
The sooner she is gone from the political landscape the better.
MannyT-vA on January 11, 2008 at 6:15 PM
“No woman is illegal” eh?
This is why I love listening to the Dennis Prager show. He spent more than a few minutes dissecting HRC’s witless “I found my own voice” comment from her NH win the other night in a way the MSM will never ever ever do.
