Having stood bridge watch on a US Warship in the Persian Gulf it is not all that uncommon to have small craft come at you and the ship give those warnings over BTB radio the approaching “Go fasts.”

As any old salt who has been to sea for a few years and this is a not such a big deal as landlubbers make it to be. If we shot every boat that approached like that at sea there would be some very negative headlines.

Does anybody know if the ships were in the straights? If so they should have already been at GQ for the transit, guns manned and helicopter overhead for cover. Just wondering.

All kidding aside I don’t know what Kerry would have done but I damn sure know what the swifties did for us when we were close ashore in Friendly waters off Viet Nam. They were our body guards. Nothing that wasn’t USN was allowed to approach us and I mean nothing. If something made an approach they got one verbal warning through a bull horn. Next they got one burst across the bow, next they got to be kindling. Brown water guys were our guardian angels and we loved ‘em. Kerry wasn’t there at the time.

Alan will be Alan. While there are lots of people I would hang out to dry for their opinions and or the garbage they spew, I will give him credit for presenting and defending his opinion (as skewed as it is) in a medium that allows for retort vs the Olberman approach where he can say what he wants without having to suffer cross examination.
Lets not go the way of the Dems. Let him say his peace so we have soundbites to debate.

If I hear Gulf of Tonkin one more time, I’m gonna throw up. It’s like every time something happens, like in this case our ships being obviously provoked by Iranian ships, lefties instinctively cry out “GULF OF TONKIN!!!!!!!!” Like we don’t have enough reason already to engage Iran more forcefully, I think we’re showing a great deal of restraint with them as it is. It’s really pathetic that American liberals more reflexively trash their military and government rather than the military of a radical country like “gay-people-free” Iran. It’s wack.

The more I listen to the Iranian side of the conversation the more interesting it gets. In the first transmission, I keep getting that he wants to know the size and number of helo’s operating in the area. Did they figure the biggest threat to them was from helicopters? Not very smart of them, but thats what it sounds like.

What would of happened had they known there were none in the area?
