Dallas honor killing update: Said still missing, reward offered

The Dallas Morning News reports more about the life of the Said family and the murder of Sarah and Amina. Though the paper doesn’t dub the double-murder an honor killing, the details do.

Years later, when Amina was a sophomore at Euless Trinity High School, a friend said she showed up at school with red welts across her arms and back. Another time, Amina confided that her father had kicked her in the face.

“He found notes from her boyfriend,” said a 17-year-old Trinity senior, who asked not to be identified. “Her lips were pretty much attached to her braces, but they wouldn’t take her to the doctor because her family feared her father would be taken to jail.”

She said the abuse continued and threats intensified.

“I remember her telling me that her dad told her he would take her back to Egypt and have her killed,” she said. “He said it’s OK to do that over there if you dishonor your family.”

Is he right about that? Robert Spencer wonders why we’re not hearing from the usual suspects to tell us that he isn’t. Where are the feminists for that matter? Where is the national media to look at this story and the continued threat that Said poses to his wife and son? Fox and ABC News have reported on the story, but where are the national and international wires?

Real reporting is being left to local media and bloggers.

Yes, this was an honor killing and I believe with all my heart that ISLAM, the brother, is just as guilty as his dad. Why? Because Amina would not go back home! He went over, where she was staying and was crying. “Please come home Amina and talk things out with Dad! He will not hurt you, I give you my word! I promise, you will be safe!” She trusted those words and went with him. Not an hour later….Sarah made that infamous call! She died immediately after she called as he took his time killing her. In fact, all we have been told is, “she had multiple gunshots”…..I still have no clue how many bullets he fired at her. I do know she fought for her life as there is a bruise on her forehead which shows that she did not go out without a fight…one this precious and beautiful girl lost…to a man she knew as daddy!

Said remains at large and it’s likely that he’s back in Egypt. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to his arrest.

Update: Rod Dreher, who works for the Dallas Morning News, has thoughts on the killing as well as how it’s being reported.

This is Yaser Abdel Said. The police still consider him armed and dangerous.

The underground Muslim railway can get them out as well as in.

Glenn Beck had a story on this with the fathers mug shot on air.

I suspect the lefts silence is like that of abortion and acceptance of the Islamic culture. After all, if you can kill your child before it leaves the womb, why wait till they dishonor you to finish the job.

It’s all about rights.

Kini on January 10, 2008 at 2:34 PM

The infidel’s want this honorable Muslims hide nailed to the wall. Muslims will aid him every way possible. I imagine by now he is safe in some sector of the magic land of Muslims. And his honor has been restored to triple A, so at least he has that going for him.

BL@KBIRD on January 10, 2008 at 2:36 PM

The feminists are out shedding tears with Hillary, showing their softer side - but still ready to fight American Conservatism (the real threat) at every turn. They will likely see this as an isolated incident, and turn their back on the reality - after all, it’s a “cultural” thing.

Rick on January 10, 2008 at 2:36 PM

Where are the f–king feminists?

They won’t go near this or any other episode of honor killing because it would align them with the right, and expose multi-culturalism for the fraud that it is.

Leonidas Hoplite on January 10, 2008 at 2:38 PM

Feminists only care if a girl turns up dead if the assailant is a preist, mininister, or known conservative.

Otherwise they’re too bust slobbering over Bill Clinton.

BKennedy on January 10, 2008 at 2:39 PM

Local islamic leaders are very emphatic when they say this is not an honor killing. It bugs me that the media folks don’t ask them to explain why it isn’t.

Heck, it is no longer a big story here, in Dallas. Not that i hear anyway, and I’m a news junkie.

cozmo on January 10, 2008 at 2:44 PM

When the Law & Order or Without A Trace version of this story is eventually produced, all traces of the Islam will be scrubbed in favor of the much more realistic portrayal of an overweight, uneducated, rural angry white male fundamentalist Christian who murdered either his teenage daughter for the unforgivable sin of emulating “the vulgar secular humanist culture” by wearing a skirt above her ankles or murdered his son for being teh ghey because he plays Dance Dance Revolution on the Wii.

And, if we’re being honest, that is pretty frickin’ ghey… but nobody should ever be killed just for that.

ScottMcC on January 10, 2008 at 2:44 PM

He’s probably back in some crap-hole Muslim theocracy being treated like a hero. Kind of like Baboo on Seinfeld, but free foot baths and head towels.

Hening on January 10, 2008 at 2:46 PM

Massoud Nasseri, owner of King Cab, has known Mr. Said for a number of years.

He described him as a good father and a decent man.

He said Muslim children who are born here or spend most of their lives here are “caught between a rock and a hard place.” They want to do what their parents want, but they also want to follow their friends.

“They always battle within themselves about what they need to do,” he said. “I call it the clash of the culture and that’s what it comes down to. The kids were born here and part of their blood is Muslim, part of their blood is Christian, and they are caught in between.”

–From the Dallas article–

This guy unwittingly admitted the truth. He spoke of a “cultural clash”, yet went on to use religious denomination qualifiers as the epicenter of the rift.

In Islamic societies and those who were raised in them, where exactly is the line where Islamic influence ends and normative cultural influence begin??

awake on January 10, 2008 at 2:50 PM

The continued threat is to any non-Muslim who dated one of the girls. This is exactly like a hypothetical situation I described a while ago at some website. I said sharia in family law would mean Muslim girls and non-Muslim boys being killed. That’s the missing piece here: it’s actually illegal for Muslim women to associate with non-Muslim men.

Sharia rocks!

Where do the candidates stand on sharia in family law or finance? Nobody knows!

“Why is it every time an Arab father kills a daughter, it’s an honor killing?” Islam said.

Maybe, you know, if it didn’t happen so often….

Also, from reading that article, there sure were a hell of a lot of warning signs prior to the night these two girls were finally killed. Are we really that “culturally sensitive” that we left this situation alone to reach its boiling point? The girl shows up at school with her face kicked in, everyone knows who did it, and nobody takes any action? Direct verbal threats of killing these girls, for years, and nobody does a thing? I mean, c’mon. We’d intervene if this were a Christian father doing these things. But everyone seemed to goosestep around this situation and let him kill these two girls. Sad.

ScottMcC on January 10, 2008 at 2:44 PM

L & O did an episode a couple years ago on honor killings. The brother killed the sister, at the father’s behest, for having a boyfriend, and then the mother was killed by the father for testifying against the brother. IMO they pretty much got it right and showed it for what it was. Like this story, the father got away.

Sorry if I spoiled it for anyone, but it did come out 2-3 years ago.

Brass Pair on January 10, 2008 at 2:59 PM

When they hear this guy’s name, it would take the most irony-challenged lefty not to make at least a twinge of connection to the late Edward Said, one of academia’s principal proponents of the It’s-All-Our-Fault–Islam-Is-Peace mantra.

From the link: “Said [rebuked] ’speculations about the latest conspiracy to blow up buildings, sabotage commercial airliners, and poison water supplies.’ However when commercial airliners were used to blow up the World Trade Center,…Said withdrew from public view and declined to answer his phone.”

I’m still bothered a bit by something MM has on her blog. Both girls claimed sexual molestation at ages 8 and 9, one with penetration. The mother signed an affidavit certifying the truth of their accusations. The girls later recanted and the charges were dropped. If the girls were just making it up, why did the mother sign the affidavit? There are some major red flags on this that religion/culture might not be the whole story, although it certainly played a major part in the murders.

I doubt it had to do with anything other then worried about being sued in the long run. Liberal teachers can call the authorities if they think something is wrong with a black, white or hispanic child… but God help them if it is a child of another origin, with possiblity of being muslim!

God Forbid the rath of a muslim father on a liberal school teacher! Makes you wonder what exactly goes on in public schools anymore when they will only call concerning some type of children and not all.

spacekicker on January 10, 2008 at 3:03 PM

There is NO honor in killing. There is only pain, grief, suffering, and unnecessary loss. I would invite any Muslim worth his prayer rug to explain with a straight face where the “honor” is in murdering one’s own daughters. Then I would ask for a definition of “honor”. Somehow I think the translation is lost within the confines of Islam.

pilamaye on January 10, 2008 at 3:04 PM

I’ll bet Planned Parenthood thinks honor killings are just a delayed reaction to choice.

Has anyone ever heard of a male honor killing?
They seem to be always female.

There’s been an appalling lack of coverage on this horrific crime, outside of the local media and bloggers.

ABC News, as far as I know, has been the only network to mention this.

Now that the case in Aruba has been dropped, maybe Greta can get on this.

Anyway, in the story today it’s also noted that Said likely also raped his daughters ten years ago.

In October 1998, when Amina and Sarah were 9 and 8 years old, they accused their father of sexual abuse.

The allegations were reported to the Hill County sheriff’s office, where the girls told a detective their father had been touching them inappropriately. Amina told authorities she had been penetrated at least once.

An absolute monster.

There is a sick relationship between husbands and wives where child abuse is concerned. Women live in denial, or hide while their daughters are abused and somehow are able to look themselves in the mirror. You can find that dynamic in every culture in an abusive household.

It is incredible how phony and shallow feminist groups are. This entire situation should be put in full light much like Jessica’s Law to let these cowards know if they beat or try to kill their daughters the sky will come down on their heads.

In my kids’ schools if they have bruises the nurse calls home to talk to a parent. I guess if your emergency card says “Muslim”, it’s just part of their peaceful culture to have their face punched in by dad.

Brigitte Gabriel was interviewed by Greg Jarrett about tragic tale this last week. He asked the $64,000 question, namely - why would a Muslim who hated American values come to live here in the first place?

Gabriel noted that he is from Egypt, home of the Muslim Brotherhood who issued a directive to the faithful in the 1980’s exhorting them to go forth and multiply, and spread the Religion of Peace around the world.

Gabriel also speculated that he was probably being protected and given a safe house in a mosque.

Glenn Beck had a woman on today who knew the girls. I missed the set up to it and only caught the end of it, and she was sobbing so much it was hard to hear her.

Mark Steyn came on immediately afterwards, and talked about his human rights trial in Canada and how the plaintiffs always win, how CAIR is nothing but a Saudi front group with no members, and so on.

I think it was Steyn who said that The U.K. is re-opening something like 120 cases of dead Muslim girls to look for evidence of honor killings.

Glenn doesn’t understand why he chose a Christian woman for a wife, but I think Gabriel’s theory explains that.

Buy Danish on January 10, 2008 at 6:30 PM

I forgot to mention that the reason that the suspected honor killings in the U.K. weren’t really given much scrutiny at the time was because of “cultural sensitivities”.

I don’t get it. Why were these children still in the parents custody if all this was going on? This happened in Texas? Wow!

DMeNTe on January 10, 2008 at 5:31 PM

I’m surprised that no one did anything when the girl showed up at school with welts. They are typically so on the lookout for child abuse these days that if your kid gets a bruise on his knee he gets hauled off for questioning.

Other than Fox, here, and MM. I haven’t seen any coverage on this crime. They would would rather talk about that fool on The View than the murder of these two women.

Disgusting.

Instead of offering ten thousand dollars as a reward, maybe they should try a reward of ten thousands virgins. That seems to motivate them like no other.

As a father of two little girls, this just makes me sick, and as a Texan all I have to say is, if he is still in Texas he will be caught! I dont know about other states, but here people in prisons have a strange sense of honor, pedophiles and children killers dont last long in the system unless they are isolated from the rest of the prisoners. He will get to see what it really means to dishonor his family, do I have to say dont drop the soap?

Yeah, but isn’t there a disconnect between

a directive to the faithful in the 1980’s exhorting them to go forth and multiply, and spread the Religion of Peace around the world.

and killing off the young ones resulting from the marriage?
I obviously don’t have the proper intellect to understand the Muslim mind.

a capella on January 10, 2008 at 8:14 PM

There isn’t disconnect, I don’t think. Women, of all kinds, are property in the Muslims world, though I think Christian women are younger. He considered his wife a vessel to spread his “faith” (read:cult-like obsession).

Thus, he wasn’t dishonoring the word of Allah. Plus, you can do pretty much anything, as long as you say it’s for Allah’s glory, as I understand it.

I obviously don’t have the proper intellect to understand the Muslim mind.

That statement presupposes that such a thing exists.
