Beloved, highly regarded elder statesman endorses Obama; Update: Silky reacts

posted at 10:10 am on January 10, 2008 by Allahpundit
Send to a Friend | printer-friendly

The backstage tensions from 2004 having been seared, seared in his memory, Waffles reports for duty and duly flips the bird to Silky.

Given his track record, I’m guessing that this was the precise moment Obama “passed the global test.”

Barack Obama has won the presidential endorsement of Sen. John Kerry, the Democrats’ 2004 nominee who lost to George W. Bush.

Kerry, a senator from Massachusetts, plans to announce his support Thursday at a rally at the College of Charleston, said a Democrat familiar with Kerry’s decision. The 2004 nominee will argue that Obama can best unite the country and has the potential to create transformational change, the person said.

Exit question: Will Waffles’s endorsement do as much for Obama as Gore’s endorsement in 2004 did for Howard Dean? It can’t actually … hurt, can it?

Update: Brace yourself.

For Obama, this endorsement fills a particular need: In addition to winning the nomination in 2004, Kerry is considered a strong voice on national security issues and a respected elder of the Democratic establishment.

The real benefit to Obama is coopting Kerry’s leftover fundraising network.

Update: The Pony takes the high road.

Our country and our Party are stronger because of John’s service, and I respect his decision. When we were running against each other and on the same ticket, John and I agreed on many issues. I continue to believe that this election is about the future, not the past, and that the country needs a President who will fight aggressively to end the status quo and change the Washington system and to give voice to all of those whose voices are ignored in the corridors of power.

But since he already has to wake up next to Theresa-Heins I guess it wouldn’t really be all that scary for him.

And the angels sing hosanna to his name! The Messiah has risen!

Is it possible that will will have the Messiah and the Jesus candidate vying to lead this country to the promised land? A land of no borders, tent revivals, socialized medicine that will survive until it’s too late to realize the terrorists really weren’t mad at us because we were in their country, rather that their perverted view of their religion tells them to murder until the entire earth is at peace.

haha another win for HRC.

zane on January 10, 2008 at 10:29 AM

LOL! Mr. CHANGE backed by FlipFlop. No surprise on idiology or lack thereof. Perhaps an inverse in phraseology. Kerry’s ordering went “for it before against it”; Obama will go “against it before for it”.

Is there any love lost between Kerry & Clinton here? If need be, Obama can shed a “love laden” tear with as much AFFEKT as Hillary. Will the tear swell during an appreciative remark from Obama for Hillary’s diligent efforts for womens’ rights?

maverick muse on January 10, 2008 at 10:30 AM

There was a report this week that B. Hussein’s voting record (when he actually votes) is as liberal as Teddy Kennedy. No wonder Kerry endorsed him.

Hollow (and everybody else),

I heard a comment from Rove this week that makes a lot of sense.

We shouldn’t be calling Senator Clinton “Hillary” because it humanizes the she-devil. Leaves the perception that the woman is actually capable of human emotions. Calling her Senator Mrs. Bill Clinton is probably a bit much but sticking with Senator Clinton is probably a good strategy.

highhopes on January 10, 2008 at 10:35 AM

The democrats can control Obama. If the Clintons win, they’ll control the democrats. I expect, unless the Clintons manage some record breaking voter fraud like in New Hampshire, Obama will get the nomination.

darwin on January 10, 2008 at 10:36 AM

Ooooof. Hard not to feel for Barack on this one. Now I’m just waiting for the conspiracies that Kerry’s doing this to put the final cement ring around Obama’s neck to sink his campaign once and for all. Perhaps he will have been against Hillary before he was for her? ;)

Jockolantern on January 10, 2008 at 10:38 AM

This appears to be a trend for the Democrats. First, Al Gore “flipped the bird” to his running mate Joe Leiberman to endorse Howard Dean, and now Kerry has done the same to Edwards in favor of Obama.

I didn’t realize the Democrats really do make every decision based on popular opinion and the polls.

These people are really solid and character driven.

Hey everyone:

Did you know John Kerry served in Vietnam?

Darksean on January 10, 2008 at 10:43 AM

I still miss John Kerry. His attempts to be a regular guy were so funny that they made Mike Dukakis look like Mike DelFino. Here are my favorites: Kerry goes to the legendary Pat’s Steak House in Philly and asks the counterguy to put “a little provolone” on his phily cheesesteak. Absolutely priceless. Kerry goes to Green Bay and refers to “Lambert Field”. Kerry rides his fancy racing bike with baubles everywhere through the streets of Boston to show he is a NASCAR kind of guy. Kerry goes windsurfing off Cape Cod (Barack Obama remarked at the time: “Softball might have been a better choice”). Kerry goes hunting for ducks in Ohio wearing a banana republic outfit. He comes out of the woods saying that everybody “bagged a duck”. Only one problem. There are four “hunters” but only three ducks. I do have to admit, to be fair, that Mitt Romney is just as hilarious. He called himself a lifelong hunter and asked what game he had bagged, Romney said “a few varmints”. These Massachussetts guys are just hysterical. And, lets not forget Mike Dukakis telling farmers in Iowa that they should “grow Belgian endives”. But the trophy goes to John “Lurch” Kerry,

B. Hussien has come close on a couple of occasions. That pastor of that racist church he attends was supposed to speak at his campaign kick-off until he got disinvited at the last minute. Another crack in Democratic establishment support for Hillary. I believe that the clownish aspects of Kerry aside, this is bad news for Hillary as the hemorraging at the top of the party continues. No one would be leaving the ship if the general perception was that it has righted itself and won’t sink.

George Bush worked harder than any other modern president to unite the ruling class in DC. The result was him getting trashed the likes of no other president since R. Nixon. Obama claiming he is going unite the country is a joke. A nasty joke, since it was the Democratic party that decided on the revenge that was ultimately against the American people. All in payment for their Clinton presidency going down in flames. In typical Liberal mindset, it wasn’t his fault he lied about having sex with an intern to a grand jury. Now let’s elect his clueless wife, and mulligan Bubba.

Exit question: Will Waffles’s endorsement do as much for Obama as Gore’s endorsement in 2004 did for Howard Dean? It can’t actually … hurt, can it?

His endorsement is pretty insignificant. It’s risible that he even thinks that appearing anywhere, with anyone, makes a difference. It won’t even rattle the Hillary camp.

He’s like the loner coyote male, trying eternally to find a (political) pack. They all sense the basking-in-Brahmin status, and don’t want him. If he had a place to go to, he’d retire and disappear into oblivion. Alas, oblivion is uncomfortable with him too.

John Kerry’s not so secret any longer MySpace entry:

Hi there fellow bloggers. My name is United States Senator John Forbes Kerry from the great state of Massachusetts. You can call me JFK if you want. I was born on December 11, 1943, although people tell me that I look at least 20 years younger. It’s probably my great hair and rugged good looks.

I graduated from Yale in June 1966 in the top 1% of my class. To earn extra money during the summers, I loaded trucks in a grocery warehouse and sold encyclopedias door to door. That is probably one of the reasons that I am so humble. Over my four years at Yale, I maintained a 96 grade average and received a 101 average in my senior year.

I am one of the most senior members of that grand and much loved and respected institution known as the U.S. Senate. Probably the only living Senator even a little bit greater than me is my dear friend Ted Moore Kennedy. I also have a very high IQ. Very high. At least 250 on a bad day. Much higher than that creep who stole the election from me. I know that he stole it because exit polls are never ever wrong.

I am also a great war hero. I set all kinds of records for heroism when I was in Vietnam. I was grievously wounded at least three times yet continued to insist on staying in the fight when lesser men would have given up. I won the bronze star with extra V’s for extra valor and the Silver Star for defeating a whole battalion of NVA with my bare hands.
Sometimes I feel like a had to carry all the water for those other ungrateful swiftboaters.

I sometimes like to chill out after a long day of serving the American people by having a double martini with my good friend Ted. We usually have a servant bring 21 double martinis. I get one and Ted gets one for each of his fingers and each of his toes. Contrary to what some of my very few enemies say I never marry women for just their money. They must also have a pulse. BTW, did I mention that I was in Vietnam? I was also in Cambodia, so don’t forget that!

I would like to think that I am open minded, honest, polite, heroic and trustworthy. And I appreciate the same qualities in others although I am realistic enough to know that no one else could come close to me.

Turn offs: other politicians who spend more on haircuts than I do. That is just not right.

Who I’d like to meet:
…other progressive bloggers. Other great war heroes who hate that damn S-T-U-P-I-D Texan in the White House and those lying sons of bitcher swiftboat bastardos whose pants are on fire! Cool people who live close to Washington D.C. so that we can get together, talk about you for about 30 seconds and then spend about 9 hours talking about me. BTW, did I mention that I was in Vietnam and Cambodia? Just one more BTW, if anyone has found my magic hat please return to me.
