Videos: Obama, Clinton trade shots on Fox

First up, Barack Obama, who sounds so tired that the anchors ask him if Red Bull is playing any part in his campaign (My take: Red Bull is playing a part in every campaign. And the lives of most political bloggers too). Obama reserves his ire for Bill Clinton rather than Hillary, accusing him of making “several misleading statements” about Obama’s record. Presumably, he’s talking about speeches like the one in which Clinton called the Obama wave “the biggest fairy tale he’s ever seen.”
The interview doesn’t really warm up my interest until Brian Kilmeade trips Obama up by first getting him to vow to destroy al Qaeda in Afghanistan, then asking him about destroying al Qaeda in Iraq. Obama blinks and shuffles, then recovers by saying that it’s al Qaeda in Afghanistan that’s most dangerous. As things stand now, that’s probably true. But if we had left Iraq too early, it might not be true and in fact it probably wouldn’t be true (and if we hadn’t invaded Iraq at all, well, al Qaeda was there before the invasion). Even if we were out of Iraq we would still be in Afghanistan regardless, but if al Qaeda in Iraq had been left with a free hand in a failed, fractious Iraq, we probably would have seen more plots like this one. I wouldn’t expect the senator from Inexperience to see things that way, though.
Next up is Clinton, appearing via satellite from her “home town” in New York (how many home towns does she have?). She rips off a risible line about her getting up every day for 35 years wondering what she could do to help someone else (I wouldn’t believe that of a Mother Teresa figure, much less Miss Travel Office Firing, Miss FBI File Riflewoman, or Miss Cattle Future Speculator, all of which describe Mrs. Clinton). She’s an operator, and not the smoothest operator at that. She is asked about the Muskie Moment. About 7 minutes in Fox host Gretchen Carlson says she “hasn’t seen the kind of passion” from Bill Clinton in years, that he showed in going after Obama in New Hampshire. Yeah, putting “passion” in a sentence with Bill Clinton drew a juvenile laugh from me. There I go again. The question serves up a chance for Hillary to hit his record, and she swings solidly.
The New Hampshire outcome on the Democrat side seems to be about the best a conservative could hope for. Split verdicts mean there’s no coronated front-runner, which means the two campaigns will keep trading shots for a while longer. Edwards says he’s staying in, so he’ll be out there muddying the waters as he demagogues his way across the country. He’s underperforming compared to four years ago, so there’s no real rationale for his staying in and he has to know that this year is his last hurrah, but thanks to matching funds he has some money and little else to do. In delegate count, both Clinton and Obama got nine apiece last night. Hardly a clear, resounding victory for anyone.
The first party to settle on a nominee usually wins. Neither party is settling just yet.

Bryan,
You have been going a lot lately.
I fear for you.
Is it the Red Bull?
Mcguyver on January 9, 2008 at 10:36 AM
I’m rootin’ for both of them. Bleeds off cash and solidarity, plus leaves some festering bad feelings. May also force a few independents into the side of all that’s good and pure.

The Clinton campaign would be smart to stick to the issues. Considering Bill was the first “black” president, his statement could be interpereted as a swipe against Obama’s ethnicity and therefore alienate their black constituency.
It’s about the economy/war/immigration/etc. stupid.
natesnake on January 9, 2008 at 10:40 AM
Just finished the Obama interview, that was nice work by Kilmeade there.
Spirit of 1776 on January 9, 2008 at 10:42 AM
I just noticed that Obama has a little lip-bite going on in the screen cap.
Not too shabby. He’s giving Clenis a run for his money.
natesnake on January 9, 2008 at 10:43 AM
So, they won’t debate on Fox, but they’ll put their sound bites in on Fox.
Not that I’ll watch either way.
Hawkins1701 on January 9, 2008 at 10:44 AM
The bottom line is our troops are not coming home on Inauguration Day, as much as Obam, Clinton, Edwards, Paul, Kucinich, and Richardson would have you believe. The war will continue no matter who is in the White House, and they all know it. It’s the dirty little secret the Dems (I’m including Paul) don’t want to admit.
fourstringfuror on January 9, 2008 at 10:45 AM
I’ll take that with a grain of salt. One grain only.
fogw on January 9, 2008 at 10:47 AM
I turn F&F on every morning while I’m getting ready for work, and I thought I was going to have to race to the bathroom to toss my breakfast when Shrillary was on. She would not SHUT UP about how all she thinks about is how she can help people. That’s what this is all about. It’s not about her, it’s about helping people, blah, blah, blah. UGH! It was so fake, so phony, so disgustingly disingenuous. And when Steve cracked a joke, I was screaming in my head, “Steve!! Don’t make her laugh!!”
Lan Astaslem on January 9, 2008 at 10:47 AM
I’d advise all the folks refusing to vote for McCain under any circumstances if he gets the nomination to take a long, hard look at that Obama quote on al Qaeda.
BillINDC on January 9, 2008 at 10:49 AM
“getting up every day to help someone” is about as genuine as her welled up eyes. She just wants to steal some of that halo the media has given her opponent. puleeeeez.
scalleywag on January 9, 2008 at 10:49 AM
Yes and no. Strategies will vary in how fast America draws down in Iraq and how aggressive other strategies are. These variances could/will add up to extremely different outcomes.
BillINDC on January 9, 2008 at 10:50 AM
“so-called exit polls” Are we just putting so-called in front of things that are wrong now? So-called smartest woman on earth Hillary, so-called President Carter.
I think Hillary made huge mistake in Iowa by telling people they weren’t taking questions. I think it really contributed to her loss there. They changed that in NH (dramatically) and I think that played into her resurgence. I also think Edwards helped her accidentally with women voters by criticizing her real fake tears.
Spirit of 1776 on January 9, 2008 at 10:52 AM
yea, Obama’s comment on Al Qaeda …bone chilling. Face it, that man will fail us miserably as a world leader.
scalleywag on January 9, 2008 at 10:53 AM
Looks like “inevitable” just ain’t what it used to be. Hilderbeast was inevitable. Then she was toast. Then Obama was inevitable. Now he’s 50/50 at best. And I’m supposed to believe these same pontificating MSM idiots that the Dims have such a big advantage in the general next year???
Hell, they can’t even get New Hampshire close (a state you could probably go door to door in in about a week), and I’m believing what they tell me will happen nationally in November with two as-of-yet unknown candidates? Puh-leeze.
Sugar Land on January 9, 2008 at 10:56 AM
Indeed. The fortunate thing for a Dem President is that they have more spin control. They own all early withdraw positives and cast the blame on GWB for any failures.
This would have been more successful if the previous administration had not totally botched the war in the first place.
natesnake on January 9, 2008 at 10:57 AM
Hillary’s so likable now. Charming, friendly, sweet, feminine, oozing with passion and confidence. She’s so motherly, caring and dedicated to helping others. And Bill is right there by her side, supporting his loving spouse.
*puke*

They’re unstoppable!

This would be a great PlayStation III game. Round-house kicks, special weapons and after 100K point Bubba and Michelle Obama can tag team.

I noticed signs of intense Clinton hatred last night from a few of the media types. Not many but a few. This is a good thinga-ma-jobby for conservatives.
I still can’t get over everyone being surprised the pollsters and pundits had it worng. My goodness people. Wake the he11 up. They’ve got it completely wrong for years and years. Pollsters are just another tool for the steering committess. Influence, influence and when in doubt buy some more influence. When asked who’s going to win try to influence with your answer. When influence doesn’t work try some more influence. Influence, influence, influence.
Let’s try real hard not to be surprised next time they get it wrong. Like tomorrow or an hour from now.
Griz on January 9, 2008 at 11:10 AM
My goodness. You mentioned her name… slowly I turn… step by step… I just hate this woman. I’ve never met a more selfish egotistical POS in my life.
Griz on January 9, 2008 at 11:13 AM
I am so grateful to have such selfless Demigods who are willing to sacrifice themselves on the altar of power to provide for all my needs. Oh praise you Great Mother, Great Father. I am humbled by your radiant beneficence.
Or not whatever. What’s Britney up now days. Lessee…

Dick Morris has no lost love for Glacier, but when asked this morninig on Fox whether this was a good outcome for Conservtives he said NO.
He said single women is the biggest block she has, in 2000 there were around 100MM single women voters, in 2004 there were 120MM and this election there will be 140MM which will mostly swing for Glacier. It is health care, pre-k, Education and more that she wins them over with.
broker1 on January 9, 2008 at 11:26 AM
Careful, congregants-it’s the same danger as before-HClinton feeds on the dark side of the force, meaning that the more you hate her, the stronger she gets. She wins if you hate her so much that Dems can use your hate to gin up support for her.
I don’t hate anyone, and I’m confident that eyes uncolored by emotion will clearly see that HClinton is not Presidential material. She’s more to be pitied than scorned.
Doug on January 9, 2008 at 11:29 AM
This is key. This is why I keep saying for Repubs to wish for Obama or Edwards. If Hillary is the nominee we Repubs are doomed! We’ve got to get rid of Hillary in the primary or we’re done!
jwp1964 on January 9, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Something ain’t right with those stats. There are only 303 Million in the country. So, there should be roughly 151M women. So, 80% of those are single mothers? And, of course, they’re all active participants in the democratic process. Either you heard wrong or Dick Morris needs to bone up on his slide rule skills.
pistolero on January 9, 2008 at 11:40 AM
If that’s what Morris said, his crystal ball needs a tune-up.
140 million single women is statistically impossible.
According to 2007 Census:
Age structure: 0-14 years: 20.2% (male 31,152,050/female 29,777,438)
(29 million woen not yet of voting age)
15-64 years: 67.2% (male 100,995,752/female 101,365,035)
65 years and over: 12.6% (male 15,858,477/female 21,991,195)
That yields a total of approximately 120 million women of voting age living in the U.S., according to the last census. Morris says 140 million single women will swing for Glacier.
Mathematically that’s impossible, even if every woman in the U.S. was single. We know they are not. Maybe half of the are at best, and less than 60% normally show up to vote. That works out to about 35 million single women showing up at the polls. Morris is only off in his estimating by 100 million or so.
As usual, Morris is full of it, and himself.

Griz, There’s the good Michelle and the “Other”. Just didn’t want the twain to meet.
I agree with you. The “Other” negates any positive vibes I get from Barry. Having her in the White House would be a horror show. Barry seems to be getting all sorts of “nice guy” comments, but all his calls for retreat from the war and his faux MLKjr speech last night make him seem very plastic.

So now it’s really up to Obama and Hillary to duke it out for the nod from the Dems. So who will it go? The charismatic man with a true grass roots explosion of support or the tried and tested Hillary and her political mega machine? Obama’s message resonates astoundingly well with a frustrated electorate seeking a new direction, but you can never count a Clinton out until the very end. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Both Hussein Obama and St. Hilary the Hideous are nothing more than two peas in a pod. They are both committed Marxist’s, each of whom are trying to out-commie the other.
It’s like watching the pot trade barbs with the kettle.

I like the floating “change” sign above Obama’s head.
American-Infidels.com on January 9, 2008 at 1:20 PM
If the Democratic race goes on, with no clear winner and HRC finally wins, there may be a lot of hard feeling come November. There may be a large segment that swings heavily Democratic, stay home.
WoosterOh on January 9, 2008 at 2:07 PM
Hillary just “liberated” me! I’m so glad I can be emotional now, thank you Hillary!
For the love…Does she really believe any of the stuff she says??
Eclectic on January 9, 2008 at 3:37 PM
BRYAN, you’ve put together some great lines and tags in the year or two I’ve been here, this one, the senator from Inexperience, has to be in the top 5 for sure. It is perfect. I’m adopting it for use, I’ll throw you a “by line”.

Anyone know anything about body language? And not the O’Reilly body language segments that are 99% common sense… I’m talking about when someone is constantly shaking their head when talking. I seem to recall hearing at one point that this is an indication of dishonesty or that the speaker doesn’t really believe what they’re saying. Anyone else heard something like that? Either way, watch the Hillary interview… she’s shaking her head from side to side virtually every second she’s speaking throughout the entire thing. Whether it’s a dishonesty thing or not, it certainly doesn’t fit with what she’s saying.
RightWinged on January 9, 2008 at 5:59 PM
Where’s the “Clinton Stole the Election!” headlines? In 2000, The exit polls had Gore winning, but Bush said, “I don’t believe it!” Then Bush won, and Dems cried foul. Now, Hillary said the exact same thing as Bush in 2000. HAHA
