Not the whole thing, just the choicer excerpts. Pretty darned good, if perhaps not quite “Churchillian.”

We could do worse. Not much worse, but worse.

FC, trink das letzte Bier aus, und schlaf gut. Morgen ist alles anders.

Entelechy on January 9, 2008 at 2:31 AM

I’ll stick to whine - sour grapes.

Kini on January 9, 2008 at 2:33 AM

I didn’t bother to watch the clip as I don’t speak spanish.

Did they subtitle?

SuperCool on January 9, 2008 at 2:36 AM

MB4 - can a cure be found in any of the candidates.

Kini on January 9, 2008 at 2:31 AM

Pardon me for interrupting but I would recommend an enema.

If that does not work, tar and feathers.

If that does not work a good stiff rope.

Tuco on January 9, 2008 at 2:37 AM

Perhaps a crown of thorns, nails and a cross?

Kini on January 9, 2008 at 2:40 AM

Actually mi pequena Dama you should be working on putting more el Espanol in your cabezas.

VinyFoxy on January 9, 2008 at 2:33 AM

Heh, there’s plenty there already, but just because it’s a beautiful language, not because it needs to be a second official one here.

Money.

John_Locke on January 9, 2008 at 2:43 AM

Why take McCain [or worse/Huckabee] when we can do much better? Nominating McCain makes about as much sense as leting that ghastly bill he and Kennedy tried ramming down our throats earlier this year. Do NH voters have such picky memories? I don’t know… just using common sense here.

That’s all.

Jockolantern on January 9, 2008 at 2:46 AM

Indeed! And I’m the Queen of Spain!

Percy on January 9, 2008 at 2:47 AM

The Cat’s Pajamas

Common sense seem to be in short supply these days.
Yet the mantra for Change drones on like an infection started by progressive liberals and now parroted by Romney. Wait for the others to jump on the change jingle. Like some rap cadence that offers only a rhythm but no melody, coda or value.

Change has no cents.

Kini on January 9, 2008 at 3:03 AM

I don’t speak Espanol. Could you teach me so that I could work in jefe McCain’s Norte Americano?

billy on January 9, 2008 at 1:32 AM

Here is your primer.

geckomon on January 9, 2008 at 3:28 AM

In a state whose motto is “Live Free or Die,” Fred! got fewer votes than Dennis Kucinich.
I’m a Fredhead, but…ouch.

billy on January 9, 2008 at 12:26 AM

I guess this makes New Hampshire officialy dead.

geckomon on January 9, 2008 at 3:30 AM

New Hampshire motto - Live Free or Die.

New Motto ideas:
Beam me up Dennis
Goats Rule, Cheese Smells
Grant It State
Eat Beans Before Primary - It’ll get Warmer
Global Warning - It’s Warming you say….??!
You cain’t get thare from herah
Pepperidge Farm

Kini on January 9, 2008 at 3:54 AM

BTW -

McVain dumped his first wife.

The one who stood by him through his six long years as a POW and fought to bring him home.

She was in a car accident while he was gone, so she wasn’t up to snuff when he got back home and he dumped her for an Arizona mafia babe.

What a class act.

Percy on January 9, 2008 at 4:45 AM

If independents really respect McCain enough with his pro war stance and his insistence on winning in Iraq. That would be an epic change, I would definitely vote for him if he can unite the country around victory in Iraq and the broader war on terror.

Complete7 on January 9, 2008 at 6:38 AM

I’m not feeling it.

TheSitRep on January 9, 2008 at 6:51 AM

Solid speech by McCain. I have always been happy with his stance on winning the war on terror. It is too bad he is so dead wrong on immigration, waterboarding and campaign finance reform.

Nipsey on January 9, 2008 at 7:00 AM

Completely OT…

Am I the only Firefox user seeing nothing but a black bar where the menu bar used to be below the Hot Air title at the top of the page? The black bar still has the links, but I can’t see them.

flipflop on January 9, 2008 at 7:22 AM

Go read the transcript of this speech. I have excerpts of the important parts. Tell me you don’t agree from your heart to the tips of toes. He get’s this my friends.

Rightwingsparkle on January 9, 2008 at 7:47 AM

I think complete7 is on to something. The independents again broke for McCain, which suggests they aren’t reacting to the immigration debacle the way Republicans are. McCain started rising again once it was clear the surge was producing results. Something to consider for the general.

DRPrice on January 9, 2008 at 7:51 AM

Oh, and another thing re: “we could do worse” than McCain.

On the war, terrorism and foreign affairs, we can’t do better.

DRPrice on January 9, 2008 at 7:53 AM

He get’s this my friends.

Rightwingsparkle on January 9, 2008 at 7:47 AM

Well, he gets most of it. His position on Guantanamo is just plain wrong.

I’m using Camino for Mac (1.5.2) and I’m seeing the same thing, so it’s not a FireFox issue.

As for McCain…I don’t know. I still don’t feel right about him. Something is just…off. I don’t know if I’d vote for him yet. Something is still missing in the equation. Maybe if he had Fred as his Veep…(which from this Fred-Head, would be the best I think Fred can do at this point.)

DakRoland on January 9, 2008 at 8:16 AM

Well, I’ll most assuredly vote for him before I’ll vote for the Huckster, and if he gets the nomination, I won’t hesitate to vote for him before any of the Dembots.

flipflop on January 9, 2008 at 8:18 AM

See you in hell McCain.

CABE on January 9, 2008 at 8:30 AM

I would have no problem voting for McCain if he were the nominee, and I don’t even like him. Any of the major Repubs are just so head and shoulders preferable to Hillary or Barry….even Huck (ugh!).

Priscilla on January 9, 2008 at 8:35 AM

Priscilla on January 9, 2008 at 8:35 AM

Why would you vote for someone who violated the Constitution with “Campaign Finance Reform” ? The Framers would not want McCain.

CABE on January 9, 2008 at 8:40 AM

McCain is not an American hero in ANY way. His service means nothing after what he has done to help destroy our country (I’m also a veteran btw). You can be the toughest man in the world on fighting terrorism, but if you also fight to help illegal immigrants take over America your defense creds are nonexistent. I’d vote for Larry Craig before I’d ever consider voting for McCain.

davenp35 on January 9, 2008 at 9:00 AM

I’d vote for Larry Craig before I’d ever consider voting for McCain.

I’d go in the same bathroom with Larry Craig before I’d vote for McCain. lol

CABE on January 9, 2008 at 9:12 AM

DakRoland on January 9, 2008 at 8:16 AM

Something is still missing

Conservatism. Sincerity. Level-headedness. Anger management. Concern for the needs of constituents.

But other than lacking all of the qualities above, he’s okay.

Shay on January 9, 2008 at 9:18 AM

Did anyone notice those 2-silver-balls he was rolling around in his hands?

Wierd.

jake-the-goose on January 9, 2008 at 9:22 AM

Is it my imagination or does John McCain look a lot like Bob Dole?

jake-the-goose on January 9, 2008 at 9:31 AM

Acceptance of what? Iowa and New Hampshire together aren’t equivalent to one decent size city. When a candidate gets 50,000 votes, it’s hardly worthy of an acceptance speech. Are we going to have to endure this 50 times? Also, the Liberal capital of America is hardly going to affect the election of the conservative candidate. Let’s see where they stand after New York, California, Florida, Philidelphia, Ohio and Texas. Then, maybe someone can give an acceptance speech.

orlandocajun on January 9, 2008 at 9:33 AM

The Framers would not want McCain.

CABE on January 9, 2008 at 8:40 AM

Agreed. But they sure as hell would take him over Hillary or Obama. And so would I.

Priscilla on January 9, 2008 at 9:47 AM

I really have a problem with John (Feingold-Kennedy) McCain.

He may want to gloss over that crap, but I won’t.

Ernest on January 9, 2008 at 9:56 AM

now he want’s to be a Republican!!!

efears on January 9, 2008 at 12:26 PM

I saw most of McCain’s speech and parts didn’t ring true for as a Conservative. He hasn’t listened to what we want; rather, he’s done what he wants and what the Mexican government, frankly, wants. I won’t vote for him. Yes, he deserves respect for serving our country and honor for his years as a POW, but, as my Grandfather likes to say, what has he done for me today? Nothing Conservative, that’s for sure. I want a CONSERVATIVE. I don’t want a “Maverick” aka “Liberal Republican.”

Lady Jane on January 9, 2008 at 12:40 PM

he. won’t. win.

Black Adam on January 9, 2008 at 3:00 PM

If only I could trust him on the immigration issue…if only…
