Hillary Clinton wins the Granite State; Video: “I found my own voice”; Update: Big wins among women, registered Dems

It could still go the other way, though that’s unlikely now. But at this point, even if the race tightens further, and even if Obama ends up winning by a point or two, The Glacier cried, Obamania died…? That plus the new “Comeback Kid” meme could be the Democrat narrative now. She lost the women’s vote in Iowa, regained it New Hampshire, and the teary-eyed emoting on Monday, however fake it appeared to cynics like us, may have had a great deal to do with her finish. The Glacier became flesh. Second to that, maybe Fat Elvis helped her more than he hurt? I didn’t see that coming. Hardly anyone did.

Or did she just scare enough New Hampshire voters into giving her the gold?

But think of this. The Clinton campaign, earlier today in apparent disarray, is not dead. They’ll have the Carville circus coming back to town to do all their negative work (I won’t use the word Hillary used to describe it earlier Tuesday) so she and Bill will get to go back on the positive while their crew sets out to sabotage Obama. Edwards probably isn’t long for the campaign, so his supporters will go somewhere. The question is where?

The Democrats don’t have a solid front-runner. The Clinton machine will be divisive in their quest to knock off Obama. He’ll have to fight back in kind and he doesn’t have the army of spinners that the Clintons have.

Advantage Hillary? She did dominate among women voters, but Obama dominated among men and independents. The Democrats have a well-known but not much reported gender gap — as a party, they have big trouble attracting men. Hillary won’t help that in the general election; Obama might.

The big loser in all this: John McCain. Sure, he won New Hampshire. But he’s still behind in delegates (Romney leads) and is now robbed of much of the post-New Hampshire media chatter. No chatter, less momentum.

Update (AP): Ditto to what Bryan said. Conservative America is breathing a collective sigh of relief tonight.

Update: Indeed we are. Want some more good news? Well, this depends on who you support on the GOP side, but McCain’s lead over Romney is narrowing down to about 5 points. It’s not quite the thumping it was earlier tonight.

Update: CNN joins the others in calling it for Hillary, making it official.

Update: Obama’s concession was impressive. Now here’s Hillary with that…voice. She just made a joke about that voice, actually. Second sigh of relief. Now here comes Comeback Kid 2.0. I may be sick.

Update: Putting on my paranoid leftist hat for a sec, could the ballot shortages have had any effect on the outcome?

Update (AP): Now that it’s safe to hate her again, let me just say how nauseatingly touchy-feely and transparently aimed at women the line about finding “my own voice” here is. Good lord. As grating as Obama is smooth.

Update (AP): Not only did the Glacier walk away with women, she won by double digits among registered Dems. The squishy, post-partisan, transcendent charisma campaign may play well with independents but when policy push comes to policy shove, the NH base prefers Hillary.

CNN has a story “Stance on war helped McCain, poll suggests”…

Now my question is: What are the odds Mitt Romney makes the Iraq war his big issue in Michigan? I swear, if he starts talking tough on Iraq I will die laughing. lol

It was very impressive I just took offense when he started channeling MLK. Like someone else said, when you can be your own great leader, imitate one.

could the ballot shortages have had any effect on the outcome?

Yes it was those racial bigots who purposefully made sure that there aren’t enough ballots.

Putting on my paranoid leftist hat for a sec, could the ballot shortages have had any effect on the outcome?

Did any major precincts actually run out of them, or did they simply run low?

Exactly right. I have been in a funk for the last few days mulling over how any of our guys can take on the MSM’s “new JFK”. The orgasming over him on TV has been just sick.

In FL Rudy is up 24 percent to 19 percent for Huckabee, 19 percent for McCain, 13 percent for Romney, 8 percent for Thompson.

Where there are 57 delegates, winner take all; 114 delegates if the RNC doesn’t enforce the penalty.

Rudy is flying out to FL tonight to make sure that lead sticks.

bnelson44 on January 8, 2008 at 11:35 PM

In the raw vote totals Dims are getting about 25% more total votes than Reps.

New Hampshire is a swing state.

Not at all a good sign for November.

You are ABSOLUTELY correct bnelson44. I can’t watch the so-called “analysis” on TV, because it’s not “politically correct” to say the obvious: Barack Obama is Black, and America is simply not going to vote a Black candidate in as President. They’re just not going to do it.

So instead, these so-called pundits dance around the issue, talk about all these other things, blah, blah, blah.

That’s the correct analysis, but nobody on Fox, CNN, or MSNBC wants to acknowledge it.

J-Pod says Obama is no MLK, he’s SDJ:

NEW HAMPSHIRE: Obama Concedes, Not All That Well
John Podhoretz - 01.08.2008 - 22:57

Invigorated by his win in Iowa, Barack Obama gave a brilliant speech on Thursday. Disappointed in New Hampshire, Obama is giving a stinker. Maybe he’s not the Risen Demosthenes after all, no matter what E. J. Dionne says. It doesn’t help that the big call-and-response line — “Yes, We Can” — has been adapted from the title of an autobiography by, may G-d forgive me, Sammy Davis Jr.

I think it is a huge mistake to think Hillary is such an easy target. In my opinion people are vastly underestimating how many Republican women will vote for her because she is female and I think she will turn out tremendous numbers of young women who would not otherwise show up to vote, Things are not looking good for us. I think I need a drink…maybe some of Mr. Daniels’ good stuff.

asc85 on January 8, 2008 at 11:53 PM

The term to remember here is the “Bradley” (or “Wilder”) Effect. Polls whether or not someone will vote for a black versus white candidate are skewed towards the black candidate, due to the reluctance of the pathetically cowed individual (after decades of having PC propaganda drummed into him) to admit that he would not be voting for the black (or minority) candidate. No one wants to be called a racist.

This primary will always be remembered as the prime example of the “Bradley Effect”.
Of course, seeing Obama as an being an empty suit and feel-good bromide-spouting Oprahesque lunkhead doesn’t help either.

I don’t think it would even be close if Juan Plantation Strawberries McShamnasty or The High Reverend Huckster is the Republican nominee.

Even if you are right about white America, and remember Obama won in hyper-white Iowa, not voting for a black, Obama is as much white as black by race and much more white than black by upbringing/speech/presentation/etc.

People look at him much more like they look at a Colin Powell that like a Jessie Jackson or a Al Sharpton.

I think you are fooling yourself.

MB4 on January 9, 2008 at 12:01 AM

bnelson44,

My ninety year-old grandfather still hates the “Japs” because they bombed Pearl Harbor and then the government handed him a gun and told him to shoot them on little islands in the Pacific. He goes absolutely nuts at the prospect of America voting for a “Muslim” like Barak Hussein Obama while we are at war with radical Islam. I doubt my grandfather is the only person who thinks that way.

In contrast, he has said our nominee should beg either J.C. Watts or Michael Steele to be on the ticket. He wants the Republicans to be the first party to put either a woman or minority in one of the two top jobs.

LagunaDave on January 9, 2008 at 12:42 AM

The only pundit I’ve heard play the race card is Chris Matthews. He thinks voters are afraid to tell pollsters what they really think because the pollsters sound so PC when they call. If they sounded more like Archie Bunker, voters would tell them the truth: that they won’t vote for the colored guy.

SnarkVader on January 9, 2008 at 12:49 AM

I am sick of pundits telling us if we don’t vote for a black man we are racists. For the past year I have repeatedly heard national TV pundits, who supposedly know politics, make the claim that Harold Ford, Jr. did not win in in his run for the U.S. Senate because he is black. The truth is he did not win because he is part of a very corrupt political family. I’m not sure the exact number, but multiple Ford family members have been indicted. The Ford family is infamous statewide. Harold Ford Jr’s uncle, a longtime Tennessee state senator, is headed to prison any day now as part of a major bribery case that got lots of coverage in Tennessee. If his last name had been Dodge instead of Ford, he would be a United States Senator today because Bob Corker was totally uninspiring, even for Republican voters. Instead, Tennessee put the only new Republican in the Senate last year.

I don’t buy Hillary’s claim of experience (what has she ever done?). That said, I do buy her claim of Obama’s inexperience. Maybe it’s that simple.

Have they ever identified an actual voter that said one thing in a poll but voted another way?

Until they do, and ask that person, it is just speculation. There are a lot of variables, and to ascribe the effect to just one reason without evidence is just not scientific.

For example, it could be that some people will say they intend to vote, perhaps in the excitement of a novel candidate, but don’t actually turn off the tv long enough to go to the polls. Since I can’t comprehend why someone would vote for Hillary without a gun to their heads I can’t come up with a reason why they would turn out in higher numbers than expected, but there is such a reason no doubt.

Knuckledragger on January 9, 2008 at 3:31 AM

Putting on my paranoid leftist hat for a sec, could the ballot shortages have had any effect on the outcome?

I don’t know what kind of ballots they were using - paper or machine - but if they were machine how can you run out? If they were paper then Clinton operatives could get these extra ballots and ’stuff the box’. I know that when I heard they had run out of ballots yesterday the first thing I thought was that there would be fraudulent ballots cast.

I hope somebody checks the number of ballots cast versus the number of voters registered in all the precincts that went for the beast. Something is very wrong with the outcome of this race. How could so many pollsters be so wrong? I’m not one who follows or believes all the polls because we all know that they can be manipulated to come up with any result depending on how the questions are asked and who is paying for them. This whole thing stinks to high heaven and we were either tricked by the pollsters or there was gross voter fraud involved. The bloggers or the media, or both, should do some serious investigating on this one.

Video: “I found my own voice”

Hillary needs to find another one. The one she’s got ain’t workin’.

NoFanofLibs on January 9, 2008 at 9:04 AM

Her speech was more fake than a $3 bill and I’m sure if she tried she could’ve used the word “I” a few more times. Makes you wonder who she’s running for eh?

Yakko77 on January 9, 2008 at 9:19 AM

I really love how the leftist media proves themselves racist on a daily basis by examing every Obama win and loss through the lens of race.

By the end of this New England, heavy Democrat establishment and Clinton country, is going to look like a bunch of racists (blame the Republican influence! All 5 of them!) and the South will be “voting for change in a new, progressive era.”

I do so enjoy watching the Dems identity-politik themselves to death.

Before anyone jumps off a bridge or moves to Canada lets not forget the demographics of New Hampshire…including a large contingent of naive, middle aged and older women who hold the Steinumesque belief that the virtue of being a woman is enough to change the world. Sorry, the leader of my country can’t whine, whimper and cry when people make them feel bad.

Somehow everyone missed the statement in Hillbill’s performance “I have so many opportunities for this country…” WTF is she talking about? Her arrogance astounds me and it is an embarrassment to know that I live in a country where a large portion of the population blindly follows this cow, constantly making excuses for her rather then looking for someone to answer tough questions and solve even tougher problems.

I know! I tried to point that out yesterday. She hopes folks will think she was crying for America. Her tears had nothing to do with America. The weep was real, but 100% self-pity. It’s all about Hillary. Rush picked this line up today too… discussing it now on his show. The woman is a world class narcissist, egocentrist.

petefrt on January 9, 2008 at 1:15 PM

God help us. I sure hope this isn’t the start of a trend…

If Hillary makes it into the White House, the American Crackpots and Lunatics United and their ilk will have one serious champagne party…and then promptly send their lawyers and ‘activists’ (read: modern brownshirts) after faith, family, and REAL civil liberties like piranhas after raw meat.

Dark-Star on January 9, 2008 at 1:35 PM

The democrats have no real choice, they are stuck with hillary and so are we unless, our party wakes up and realizes that we are at WAR!

Sure, those are the same voters who got Bill in office. It happening all over again. 8 more years of a Clinton, except Bill can be in the back rooms running the shredders this time among other activities. Hey maybe they won’t bust the place up so much when they leave this time too.

johnnyU on January 9, 2008 at 7:30 PM

johnnyU on January 9, 2008 at 7:31 PM
