GWB didn’t govern from the bible. <strike>Huck does.</strike> Huck THINKS he does. He has constantly made decisions based on his personal <strike>beliefs in </strike> misunderstanding of Jesus instead of what was best for the people of this country. . . .Huck makes poor decisions.

What makes you think it's going to be any different four years from now, and won't you say the exact same thing then too?

The cycle will never end.

So, yes, I’ll pull the little “r” if needed, and hold by nose to keep liberalism out of my daily life for the next 4 years.

BacaDog on January 8, 2008 at 12:43 PM

I'll add one more thing, which is that the statement you made above is EXACTLY the same statement Republicans have been making every election since Reagan. The GOP knows this. They count on the fact that Republicans will vote for ANY Republican to avoid a liberal victory. Until you realize this, and show them they are wrong, they'll continue to take advantage of this weakness. Instead, you and your fellow GOP slaves will continue to show them there's no limit to your blind loyalty, and absolutely no demands in return. They can flip you off and completely screw you for eight years, and you'll continue to re-elect them.

The correct analogy was used earlier. You're all like abused women who keep taking the drunk, abusive, cheater back into the home because you're too weak to make a stand.

How exactly do you feel you're keeping liberalism out of your life by electing Huckabee, Giuliani, or McCain?

Meanwhile, we can all be looking for the Reagan reincarnate for 2012.

BacaDog on January 8, 2008 at 12:43 PM

Huh?

Once again, it's like you just skipped over the comment and reposted your previous comment. You keep saying the same thing, insisting that you'll put up with the Dems for 4 years, but you ignore the fact that it will insure a liberal President for the next 40 years.

You either missed THIS comment, or just ignored it ...

please explain how you think the conservative Party will somehow rebound from a humiliating loss which indicates to the GOP that voters want a left leaning candidate. What incentive does a Huckabee win give candidates to run as a conservative, after watching the three conservative candidates get humiliated?

Gregor on January 8, 2008 at 10:10 AM

There will be no Reagan candidate after a Huckabee win. No future candidate will dare to run on a conservative platform after watching all three conservatives (Tancredo, Hunter, and Thompson) get humiliated.

It's not the next four years. It's forever.

Also, you state that you're worried about having higher taxes and SCOTUS Justices, but you ignore the fact that Huckabee added massive taxes while Governor of Arkansas. He also refused to sign the pledge not to raise taxes. He's also a compulsive LIAR, so I'm not sure how you think he's going to do anything different from what his history shows.

Huckabee is a true liberal. Don't expect conservative Justices, and if McCain is the nominee ... those Justices get even worse as he makes backroom deals with Kennedy.

I don't think I'm going to change your mind. You're not really paying any attention to the arguments. It's not like you're disagreeing with them. It's more like you're just not hearing them.

I asked you to explain how you think the conservative Party will somehow rebound from a humiliating loss which indicates to the GOP that voters want a left leaning candidate, but instead of an answer ... I got your comment suggesting that we would get another Reagan. Again I ask ... what incentive does a Huckabee win give candidates to run as a conservative, after watching the three conservative candidates get humiliated?

Go ahead. Vote for that little “R” on the ballot and see where it gets you in eight years.

Gregor on January 8, 2008 at 10:10 AM

First of all, I don't buy into the Huck phenomenon and don't believe he will be our nominee. As many of the commentors have said, he is not a true conservative and I think he will be forgotton by November 2008.

Having said that, I would never, ever stay home on election day even if Huck were the (R) candidate in the general election. I would gladly go pull the lever for the "little R" rather than vote for any of the current liberal candidates.

Why? Because I know for damn sure Hillary, Obama or Edwards will tax us into oblivion and have the ability to nominate and possibly get confirmed SCOTUS judges that will effect the court the rest of our lives. You tell me how a scenario like that forwards our agenda in any way at all. You ask me how I’ll feel in 8 years with a RINO? Well, I ask you how you’re going to feel in 8 years when your taxes are upwards of 40%, serious gun control measures are in play, and you look at a SCOTUS that resembles a Ginsburg tea party.

When faced with the option of having a 10% chance of getting what I want, vs. having a 100% chance of getting everything I despise, I'll go with the 10% any day.
Actually, Gregor, I did read your 11:21 post and I do have some fear of what you say. However, I for one refuse to just hand over the reins because my little R isn't the perfect conservative. I don't think it will be the end of the party as long as we continue to let them know we are still here at the grassroots level. Ask McCain and Lindsay Graham how shamnesty worked out for them. When I say I don’t understand, I don’t understand the logic.
I guess this is where you and I differ: I think having any of the current Dems in the White House for 4 years will do far more damage to our future than having a half-assed "r" there. Potentially irreversable damage when coupled with a "D" congress too.

So, yes, I'll pull the little "r" if needed, and hold by nose to keep liberalism out of my daily life for the next 4 years.

Meanwhile, we can all be looking for the Reagan reincarnate for 2012.

I did read them, and I still wonder why anyone would stay home on election day in protest. There are no perfect conservative candidates anymore. Reagan is gone and will never return.

BacaDog on January 8, 2008 at 8:08 AM

Then why does your answer completely ignore comments such as the one I left at:

Gregor on January 7, 2008 at 11:21 PM?

There are many comments explaining in detail why a Huckabee win in the general election will end the conservative Party. You don't say that you disagree with those comments. You simply say you "wonder why anyone would stay home" which seems to indicate that you haven't even bothered to read the explanations.

If you disagree with them, please explain how you think the conservative Party will somehow rebound from a humiliating loss which indicates to the GOP that voters want a left leaning candidate. What incentive does a Huckabee win give candidates to run as a conservative, after watching the three conservative candidates get humiliated?

I will not pull the lever for Huckabee under any circumstances. If I have to vote for a clueless candidate, I may as well vote for a democrat that is brave enough to put a "D" behind his name instead of pretending to be a Repbulican so that the Republicans aren't blamed for the mess left behind in 4 years.

I did read them, and I still wonder why anyone would stay home on election day in protest. There are no perfect conservative candidates anymore. Reagan is gone and will never return.

In lieu of a "perfect" candidate, one has to look at what is there. I'd love to see a no-tax, no-amnesty, pro-life, pro-gun, fiscal and social conservative on the ticket. Haven't seen one, have you?

So, I'll hold my nose and vote for Huck or Mitt or even McCain (although the Maverick makes me want to stay home, I won't) just because I stand to avoid a tax increase with any of them over any liberal candidate.

I am a Conservative, and I will vote that way.

Why in the hell would anyone who is opposed to the liberal party stay home? Isn’t is better to get 50% of what you want than to stay home, pout and get 0% by helping to elect Obama or Hillary or (God forbid) Silky?

BacaDog on January 8, 2008 at 12:22 AM

Does anyone even bother to read the comments before posting?

262 comments before yours, many answering your question quite clearly before you typed your first letter.

Act like adults. You never get exactly what you want.

Thompson, McCain, Romney and Giuliani all agree on most issues, so the relatively small number of disagreements and nuances get blown out of proportion.

LagunaDave on January 8, 2008 at 12:04 AM

Errr ... what have you been smoking?

They only "agree on most issues" if you happen to believe all the nonsense currently spewing from their mouths.

Unfortunately, what McCain, Giuliani, Huckabee, and Romney are currently saying is total crap. It doesn't match their records OR their previous comments made prior to running for President. If you think what Thompson believes is even remotely in the same galaxy as what the rest of those morons believe, you've been living in some cave for the last eight years.

Hopefully, everyone will get focused once we finally have a ticket. Even if it is Huck, or Rudy, or Fred, or Mitt, I'll be pulling the (R) lever in November.
