I’ve said before that Bill Richardson is a gaffe machine. During tonight’s debate, he said one of the first things he would do as president is negotiate with…who? A country that no longer exists, that’s who.

Blowback

The Ukraine is not weak.

BadgerHawk on January 5, 2008 at 9:57 PM

Oof.

Maybe he’s been playing too much World in Conflict.

You know, maybe if he has been it would be “second look” time for Richardson.

Nessuno on January 5, 2008 at 9:58 PM

I hear he wants a UN resolution against the Roman Empire.

GogglesPisano on January 5, 2008 at 9:58 PM

I love my govenor :)

P.S. and folks wonder why this state is a zoo……

WastelandMan on January 5, 2008 at 9:58 PM

Richardson looks like he’s always been the first candidate to the buffet table. He appears to have gained all the weight that Huck lost.

Geez Bill, you are “running” for president would it kill you to drop a few pounds, and show up prepared. If this has been his audition for VP (based on his foreign policy experience and ethnicity) he’s done a bad job.

dedalus on January 5, 2008 at 10:00 PM

It’s about time to negotiate with Persia too.

krabbas on January 5, 2008 at 10:00 PM

I hope that the Dem nominee does pick this clown.

krabbas on January 5, 2008 at 10:01 PM

I thought that’s what he said…

Vizzini on January 5, 2008 at 10:01 PM

The good news is Bill Richardson is the most thoughtful and well balanced, Democratic candidate.

The bad news is he’s a moron.

TheSitRep on January 5, 2008 at 10:02 PM

I hear the debate was seen in the Soviet Reunion. And Russia, too.

amerpundit on January 5, 2008 at 10:03 PM

Oh please Bryan, leave the guy alone, he didn’t have his fruit pebbles today!

RightWinged on January 5, 2008 at 10:04 PM

And all 49 states.

amerpundit on January 5, 2008 at 10:06 PM

When Silky Pony smirks, you’re having a bad day.

wccawa on January 5, 2008 at 10:09 PM

He’s determined to pull all the Union troops out.

GogglesPisano on January 5, 2008 at 10:09 PM

Maybe He’ll sing “Istanbul”
to make up for his gaffe….

WastelandMan on January 5, 2008 at 10:13 PM

A country that no longer exists, that’s who.

Yes, that’s what they wanted you to think!

calbear on January 5, 2008 at 10:14 PM

What about Yugoslavia, Gov.?

omnipotent on January 5, 2008 at 10:14 PM

Is he in favor of sanctions for the Ottoman Empire?

krabbas on January 5, 2008 at 10:22 PM

I wonder who he would appoint as ambassador to Rhodesia?

CP on January 5, 2008 at 10:22 PM

Silky was cracking up on the inside.

baldilocks on January 5, 2008 at 10:22 PM

I don’t really care what he’s saying, but someone needs to tell him to quit banging his stupid podium.

Bad Candy on January 5, 2008 at 10:23 PM

P.S. and folks wonder why this state is a zoo……

WastelandMan on January 5, 2008 at 9:58 PM

My folks live in ABQ and want me to move there (I live in CA). I’m thinking Colorado is close enough but a much redder state.

baldilocks on January 5, 2008 at 10:24 PM

How about our trade relations with Siam?
Should we blockade the British East Indies because the british have been impressing our seamen?

Actually that second question I’ll get an answer about sexual education from Richardson

Defector01 on January 5, 2008 at 10:25 PM

The Ukraine is not weak.

BadgerHawk on January 5, 2008 at 9:57 PM

Bet you thought nobody would catch that one.

baldilocks on January 5, 2008 at 10:26 PM

I hear he wants a UN resolution against the Roman Empire.

GogglesPisano on January 5, 2008 at 9:58 PM

Ha. Awesome.

Spirit of 1776 on January 5, 2008 at 10:28 PM

Bill Richardson “when Im elected President I will seek to help the Soviet Union form up again because they provided stability to that region of the world. Since the Soviets broke up things have been far too unstable and we need to recognize that Communism will work and its good for america too !”

William Amos on January 5, 2008 at 10:30 PM

Bill Richardson is going to unite East and West Germany.

krabbas on January 5, 2008 at 10:35 PM

I think it’s about damn time we slapped West Germany on the wrist for selling chemicals to Saddam Hussein!

The scary part is that Richardson is the candidate who tops my list when I take the test over at Political Base…

Seixon on January 5, 2008 at 10:36 PM

Silky was cracking up on the inside.

baldilocks on January 5, 2008 at 10:22 PM

Naw. Silky was panicking inside thinking “Holy crap! Nobody briefed me on the Soviet Union! If I get a question on that I’m screwed!

TexasDan on January 5, 2008 at 10:47 PM

I’M CAROL!

I’d welcome some more conservatives here :)

-Wasteland Man.

WastelandMan on January 5, 2008 at 11:09 PM

Oh, don’t you know his people had to flinch when he said that? What a loon.

MsUnderestimated on January 5, 2008 at 11:09 PM

I liked when Richardson said he was reducing the number of
nuclear weapons in North Korea!,If I heard right!

canopfor on January 5, 2008 at 11:24 PM

Was he on something? Did you see him blow up his cheeks? Looked like a squirrel with nuts in his cheeks.

I feel sorry for the people who live in New Mexico where the biggest business has to be the transport business.

tarpon on January 5, 2008 at 11:25 PM

I don’t really care what he’s saying, but someone needs to tell him to quit banging his stupid podium.

Bad Candy on January 5, 2008 at 10:23 PM

Or he should at least buy it dinner first.

ReubenJCogburn on January 5, 2008 at 11:26 PM

My folks live in ABQ and want me to move there (I live in CA). I’m thinking Colorado is close enough but a much redder state.

baldilocks on January 5, 2008 at 10:24 PM

Colorado is beautiful. Pick Colorado Springs or further south to avoid the leftist loons, though.

joewm315 on January 5, 2008 at 11:49 PM

The fact that he’s a staunch supporter of the second amendment makes me just cringe with sympathy at that one.

Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch.

joewm315 on January 5, 2008 at 11:49 PM

Decisions, decisions…

WLM, think Richardson will run for the senate and take Domenici’s seat? If he does and wins, my decision is made. :-)

baldilocks on January 6, 2008 at 12:01 AM

Let’s not forget to have a face to face sit down to negotiate with Atlantis.

Mojack420 on January 6, 2008 at 12:07 AM

…And I bet he would rely on our staunch allies in Alsace-Lorraine.

Captain Scarlet on January 6, 2008 at 12:15 AM

He makes Admiral Stockdale look like Einstein.

fogw on January 6, 2008 at 12:30 AM

I was sure it was going to be Yugoslavia, I just couldn’t figure out why.

Jaibones on January 6, 2008 at 12:45 AM

If terrorist get hold of those smallbox-infected blankets, we won’t have enough horse’s for our cavalry.

We need to get our troops out of the North-West Territory NOW!

Richardson also pointed to his opposition to the Lewis and Clark expedition as evidence of his seeing through the erroneous 1802 NIE saying there was abominable snowmen in the Rocky Mountains.

pedestrian on January 6, 2008 at 1:21 AM

Show-offs!

baldilocks on January 6, 2008 at 1:34 AM

Yes. But will he be supporting Denmark or the German Empire about Schleswig-Holstein?

andycanuck on January 6, 2008 at 2:11 AM

At least he didn’t refer to them as the USSR (remember they used to stamp CCCP on all their hardware and hockey players).
Reminded me of his gay debate gaffe, he didn’t even realize he shot himself in the foot till afterwards, with his ohsh*t press release.
I was under the impression Richardson was still in the debates running defense for Hillary, buckin fer VP(after all, thanks to him everything in Korea is just peachy).

christophercube on January 6, 2008 at 3:04 AM

How long had the Soviet Union been defunct when Billy Jeff made Richardson UN Ambassador?

soundingboard on January 6, 2008 at 4:36 AM

And what’s his position on Quemoy Matsu?

soundingboard on January 6, 2008 at 4:38 AM

Well, in Richardson’s defense, it’s easy these days to confuse the new Russia with the old Soviet Union.

flipflop on January 6, 2008 at 6:49 AM

Talk about being out your element. Shouldn’t his handlers (or at least his family) take him aside and break the news to him? It’s embarrassing to watch him stumble through these appearances.

Tim Zank on January 6, 2008 at 7:24 AM

This man was touted as Mr. Experience. What a joke.
He would like to bring back the USSR.
Bill Clinton said it best about Richardson after N. Korea specifically requested him to handle the talks even though he was governor of New Mexico at that time. Clintion said, “Bad guys like him”.

I wonder why.

RobCon on January 6, 2008 at 9:35 AM

Richardson is willing to get tough with the Romans.

RobCon on January 6, 2008 at 9:36 AM

Maybe he’s been talking to Putin and he knows something we don’t
know. Back to the future indeed.

Speakin’ of Back to the Future, wouldn’t it be cool if they redid that movie in 2015?

Marty goes back in time to 1985 and meets Doc Brown…

“Ok ‘Future Boy’, who’s President of the United States in 2015?”

“Arnold Schwartzenegger.”

“Arnold *Schwartzenegger*?! The ACTOR? HA! And who’s Vice President, Sylvester Stallone?!”

Tony737 on January 6, 2008 at 9:42 AM

Lenina Huxley: I have, in fact, perused some newsreels in the Schwarzenegger Library, and the time that you took that car…
JohnSpartan: Hold it. The Schwarzenegger Library?
Lenina Huxley: Yes. The Schwarzenegger Presidential Library. Wasn’t he an actor when you…?
JohnSpartan: Stop! He was President?
Lenina Huxley: Yes! Even though he was not born in this country, his popularity at the time caused the 61st Amendment which states…
JohnSpartan: I don’t wanna know. President…

Tony, were you watching Demolition Man again? Heh.

kiakjones on January 6, 2008 at 10:00 AM

Kiak, oh yeah, I forgot about that! I love that movie…

“Let’s go down there blow this guy!”

“AWAY! Blow this guy AWAY!”

“Whatever.”

Tony737 on January 6, 2008 at 10:07 AM

Damn, that should say “… go down there and blow this …”

Tony737 on January 6, 2008 at 10:08 AM

I am convinced that Richardson is a plant by the Clintons. Put there to cover any shots across Hillary’s bow.

Golfer_75093 on January 6, 2008 at 10:14 AM

Give the guy a break. He lives in Arizona Territory after all.

ronsfi on January 6, 2008 at 10:43 AM

When it’s Summer in Siam/And the moon is full of rainbows

aengus on January 6, 2008 at 12:44 PM

It shows that Richardson’s not playing Call of Duty 4, if he were he would know that Russia is in the midst of civil war.

BL@KBIRD on January 6, 2008 at 1:53 PM

I have to worry about a country when a candidate like this is considered serious. He is not qualified to manage a Toys r’ Us.

ronsfi on January 6, 2008 at 2:40 PM

Colorado is beautiful. Pick Colorado Springs or further south to avoid the leftist loons, though.
joewm315 on January 5, 2008 at 11:49 PM

Hey, careful now… :-)
the South Metro Denver suburbs are great, lots of conservatives and a l o n g way from Boulder.
