The obligatory “O’Reilly gets froggy with Obama’s staff” post; Video: O’Reilly phones into Fox News from New Hampshire

posted at 2:28 pm on January 5, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

I don’t have any comment on it, really. I just wanted an excuse to link the photos.

Early indications are that it’s O’Reilly’s fault. Exit question: What on earth could have prompted it? Did someone in the vicinity threaten to spit on one of Bill’s friends or something?

No, it can’t be that.

Update: Commenter Yoshi names the big winner here. This should provide enough material for the next, oh, 20 or so episodes of “Countdown.”

Update: Here’s O’R on FNC at around 3 p.m., confirming that pleasantries were exchanged and physical efforts were made to move the Obama staffer out of the way. Takeaway: “No one on this earth is going to block a shot on The O’Reilly Factor.” Slate’s John Dickerson was there and claims to have seen the whole thing go down — when he wasn’t busy shouting at O’Reilly to “grow up”:

“You’re blocking our shot,” yelled O’Reilly.

“oh am I?” asked the Obama staffer not entirely sincerely and not moving.

This is not a new trick. When staffers block you because you’re being too aggressive, the standard thing to do is give them a little business and then move to another spot. O’Reilly didn’t do this. He shoved the Obama aide. There was an exchange and a little more shoving. I didn’t fully capture because as I looked at O’Reilly in his black leather Fox jacket which resembled the kind we wore during football season in high school I swore I could hear him challenge the staffer to a rumble out by the drive in.

“That’s really low class pal,” said O’Reilly.

Supposedly the brief exchange between Bill and Obama himself had to do with coming on the show.

Somebody in the Obama camp is going to get slow roasted. The big O doesn’t like to be ignored…

doriangrey on January 5, 2008 at 2:33 PM

Poor Olby.

O’Reilly finally gets a smackdown and it’s Obama that did it.

I don’t know exactly why that makes me chuckle so much, but it does.

Typhoon on January 5, 2008 at 2:34 PM

Keith Olbermann is going to have a freakin field day.

O’Reilly was doing what journalists always do, trying to get a story. O’Reilly may be a pompous a$$, but ignoring or giving the cold shoulder to a guy with 8 million daily viewers is never a good idea.

O’Reilly gonna get tased by the Secret Service.

It seems like he’s all for law and enforcement when it’s not him who has to follow the law.

I don’t think O’Reilly is much of a ‘man of the people’. He needs to stay in the studio because he doesn’t do very well out in public it seems. He’s just a crotchety old man.

I gotta say this is why I like O’Reilly. He is one of the few people either in the media or political world that still has a sack and not scared to let it swing if tried.

I got money that says we will find out that this Nicholas guy is just another leftard pansy that thought he would be protected by pansy niceties while he purposely blocked the evvviiilllll Foxnews guys from a decent shot of Obahma.

I’m sorry, but…to what end?

This is going to play out really, really, really bad for O’Reilly, and for Fox News. And it’s going to wind up as a huge boost for Obama. Taking on O’Reilly. Man, the photo of Obama lecturing O’Reilly, that’s you’re story. Hell, that’s nutroots porn.

Granted O’Reilly has a point that the media pitches Obama nothing but softballs, and he dodges tough interviews. But pick your battles, Bill O. Not that he wasn’t always but here lately O’Reilly’s really getting a little too full of himself.

bnelson44 on January 5, 2008 at 2:43 PM

Indeed.

Is this why Fred won’t go on his show? His staff worried about Bill roughing them up?

Spirit of 1776 on January 5, 2008 at 3:03 PM

O’reilly on FNC talking about it now with Brian Wilson.

RightWinged on January 5, 2008 at 3:07 PM

O’R said the incident was completely taken out of context. Sure, but still gonna be played up.

TheEJS on January 5, 2008 at 3:09 PM

It’s done… he pretty much confirmed what the reports said. Apparently this guy seemed to be deliberately stepping in front of their shot after O’Reilly “fairly nicely” asked him to move… then O’Reilly “gently” removed him. Was profanity used? “I may have called him and SOB”

RightWinged on January 5, 2008 at 3:10 PM

Bill says he “gentelly removed’ the guy from in front of his camera shot. Uh oh! Bill may have called the guy an s.o.b. Billy Billy.

I think Billo has jumped the shark. He really is not relevant and his show has gone down hill. The body language segment, culture quiz,TV icon his raging hardon about the Net. He just comes across as a belligerent old crank. He is starting to remind me of Andy Rooney. They need a younger person to take over.

Hening on January 5, 2008 at 3:18 PM

You have to get Bill’s recap of the incident with Brian Williams about 15 minutes ago on Fox News. The best part O’Reilly saying “I ‘gently’ moved him from in front of the camera…. and I may have called him a SOB.” Really funny.

Complete7 on January 5, 2008 at 3:30 PM

Nicholson, who is 6′8, said O’Reilly called him “low class.”

Sounds like O’Reilly was projecting, he’s as low class as they come.

I think that it was a really dumb move on the part of Obama’s guy to deliberately block the camera and provoke a confrontation. The guy probably doesn’t like FOX and thought he would play games. Stupid at that level of politics. When the Obama is out trying to get the nomination and people on his staff are acting like that, it reflects poorly on their campaign. They’ll pay dearly for their stupidity.

- The Cat

MirCat on January 5, 2008 at 3:52 PM

Maybe none of you have ever worked behind a camera. But your job is to get set up and establish your shots and sight-lines early.

Furthermore, if there is not a designated press area, then members of the press are guests just like the rest of them. If you’re behind me, that’s because I got there first. If you want to be in front of me, then arrive before me.

Classic narcissist: “No one on this earth is going to block a shot on The O’Reilly Factor.” Really? That’s an acceptable attitude from the press? That really is HotAir.

None of the O’reilly nutriders would condone this if it had been an Olberdouche camera operator.

Nonfactor on January 5, 2008 at 3:42 PM

I didn’t say ‘retaliating’ I said ‘push back’, and you can roll your eyes, and sigh all you want dick head.

The simple fact is, the liberals know they lose only when they give up, or back down.

the left in this country has been pushing their agenda, and pushing their self indulgent behavior for forty years, and the conservatives have always backed down, been polite, gentlemanly, and walked away from the confrontation. The result is the left expects you to walk away if they push.

If the day ever comes when conservatives finally get fed up with all the crap that has been dumped on us since, oh say, 1950 or so, and confront the left and don’t back down, the left will escalate to open war in the streets with real bullets, bombs, and armored vehicles in the streets.

As simple proof, I predict that you will be unable to let this go without a response.

I also predict that the democrat convention is going to be a riot, and that if the vote tallies in November turn out the way they did in 2000, it won’t be an army of lawyers, and court battles, it will be open war in the streets.

So go ahead, proof my point, dick head.

After watching Bill O’Reilly’s shenanigans for all these years. I think it is apparent that he has established a track record of pretty abhorrent behavior. His ungentlemanly like treatment of Michele Malkin showed me that he was not a chivalrous man.
I listened with amazed horror at how disrespectful he was with Jeri Thompson. It seems that Bill is so arrogant and self important that he feels above the laws of common decency.
I know he was lucky to settle out of court for his phone sex escapades. His fame and wealth have gone to his head, and it’s obvious that he feels like he can treat people like the turd he is.

I have reduced, significantly, my viewing of the Factor since that idiot, Geraldooo, showed his arse. I’ll watch when Laura sits in or some big news day.

I wish Michelle was still the number one stand in but am hopeful the Ustream.TV Hot Air TV becomes a regular feature (Monday nights at 8)!

TheSitRep (4:12PM) pretty much sums up my general opinion of Mr. O. I do not hate Mr. O but he is not a television personality I care to listen to regularly. And since I could care less to watch an interview with Obama, I’ll probably skip the Factor Monday night for Mr. O’s take on the incident.

Dismissive of another point of view, rejects point of view without even reading it. Doesn’t even consider that responding proves the point made in the opinion. Doesn’t even recognize that responding proves the point being made. Demonstrates the self-righteous arrogance of the classic liberal.

Demonstrates the truly amazing inability of the classic liberal to stand up to criticism, yet stubbornly clings to self righteous belief in his innate superiority.

So, Mr. NonFactor, sir, please explain how it is that purposely remaining ignorant of the topic under debate makes you morally superior. I pleasantly await your response.

rockhauler on January 5, 2008 at 4:40 PM

O’Reilly has become so big (in his own mind) that it’s impossible to defend anything he says or does. I can’t even stand to watch The Factor anymore because he really doesn’t care what anyone else has to say. His rants are all that matter as he continues to talk over every guest on the show. He always gives them the last word, but the fact is he always gets it because his is all that matters.

The Race Card on January 5, 2008 at 5:08 PM

Thank you.
I will presume that you have little familiarity with photography, or video. When you are covering an event, like the one under discussion, where you are in the room has a significant impact on what images you are able to capture. Also, when you are an interviewer, like O’Reilly, where you are in the room has a impact on your ability to entice the principle VIP to your microphone. Usually, when a politician sees a camera, or interviewer, they will give you a 30 second sound bite because they want the publicity. If they do not approach you, it is punishment for your coverage of their positions.

Thus, you see, O’Reilly had worked to get a favorable spot in the room where he might have access to the dignitaries, and where his camera man would have a good shot.

When the Obama staffer blocked O’Reilly’s access, O’Reilly had two choices, give up, or ask the guy to move. Obviously O’Reilly isn’t the kind of guy to just give up.

Which leads directly to my initial post. The liberal left, self righteous, and morally superior, believe that they can invade your space, block your shot, and you must submit, and dare not push back.

NonFactor, a more appropriate handle escapes me, demonstrated that smug, morally superior attitude when I pointed out O’Reilly was pushing back.

Which leads to my second post, I truly fear, I do not want to see violence, but the animosity between the left, and the right has gotten so bad, that I expect violence to happen this election cycle.

The confrontation between the Obama staffer, and O’Reilly are indicative of that possibility.

Did I make my point, or do you reject my reasoning?

rockhauler on January 5, 2008 at 5:14 PM

Hey April, long time no see. Happy New Year, I hope you have been well…

LOL!! Bill is the Pinhead of the week!

ackrite55 on January 5, 2008 at 5:20 PM

And the topic under debate was OReilly pushing a staffer.

Exactly, blaming Liberals, Obama, or Mrs. O’Leary’s cow will never cancel out O’Reilly’s popinjay behavior.

Stop being cowardly, O’Reilly can’t hurt you guys here, stick to the point, he’s the instigator here. Him and only him.

I didn’t see any secular progressives or atheists or Democrats or Olby or Stuart Smalley standing behind him egging him on.

His behavior is his own and that is the topic of this post. He has a tendancy not to take any responsiblility for his actions, i.e. it is always everyone else’s fault but his.

Stop being enablers in cyberspace.

AprilOrit on January 5, 2008 at 5:25 PM

rockhauler on January 5, 2008 at 5:14 PM

That’s quite the double standard.

When a staffer is standing in front of OReilly, it is because he is smugly morally superior and invading OReilly’s space.

When OReilly attempts to push him out of the way, it’s not Bill O self righteously attempting to invade somebody else’s space because… why exactly? You need to clear that one up for me.

e-pirate on January 5, 2008 at 5:26 PM

AprilOrit on January 5, 2008 at 5:25 PM

Exactly the point. Bill O’Reilly is the bad guy because he did not docilely submit to a liberal. That is the whole point.

Do you remember the incident where Condi Rice was confronted by a code pink agitator in a senate hearing room?

The whole point is the liberals believe they can do anything, and the conservative right must accept that.

God works in mysterious ways and He was with Michelle on this one. He guided her away from the negativity of that man and the calamity and strife attached to his very being.

His show is The Contenetion Factor, and I fear for Laura Ingraham’s future health on this one.

I am a cancer survivor and I avoid his type for my own self preservation.

AprilOrit on January 5, 2008 at 5:37 PM

That’s quite the double standard.

When a staffer is standing in front of OReilly, it is because he is smugly morally superior and invading OReilly’s space.

When OReilly attempts to push him out of the way, it’s not Bill O self righteously attempting to invade somebody else’s space because… why exactly? You need to clear that one up for me.

e-pirate on January 5, 2008 at 5:26 PM

There is one obvious and fatal flaw to your theory here. O’Reilly is a internationally known television journalist, not some sock puppet or threat to Obama’s life. O’Reilly was there in his official capacity as a television journalist representing the single most watched cable new channel.

Attempting to keep Fox News and O’Reilly away from Obama at the precise moment that Obama was making history was a very decidedly bad decision on the part of this arrogant stuck up smug Obama campaign worker. When he loses his job in the next few days he will have only his own liberal mindset indoctrinated self to blame. Oh and yes you can bet you a$$ that campaign staffer is going to get fired over this.

doriangrey on January 5, 2008 at 5:41 PM

Isn’t the far more relevant question “Who initiate the physical contact?”

e-pirate on January 5, 2008 at 5:37 PM

That is exactly the same point I made in my first post.

You can not push a liberal.

Among the professionals, there is much competitive pushing and shoving to get a shot. Usually there is the professional courtesy of you got your shot, let me get mine, or vice versa.

The staffer was going to deny O’Reilly any shot, and O’Reilly was pushing to get one.

You can NOT push a liberal. That’s what I’ve been saying, but you don’t like the way I’m saying it, yet you are saying the very same thing!

You can not push back a liberal.

rockhauler on January 5, 2008 at 5:45 PM

Exactly the point. Bill O’Reilly is the bad guy because he did not docilely submit to a liberal. That is the whole point.

Do you remember the incident where Condi Rice was confronted by a code pink agitator in a senate hearing room?

The whole point is the liberals believe they can do anything, and the conservative right must accept that.

Excuse me, but this has nothing to do with Code Pink and Bill O’Reilly would be the first person to disagree with your analysis. He is the first one to say and always says bad behavior does not excuse additional/future bad behavior.

The freak from Code Pink was an idiot – what’s your point?

What the hell does that weirdo did have to do with Bill O’Reilly rudely pushing people and calling them SOBs to bull doze himself toward a candidate??

Don’t balme Liberals for Bill O’reilly’s behavior. let me put it in a way you may understand – from a Republican viewpoint –

We are all responsible for our own behavior, unlike Democrats and Liberals we do not blame everyone else including America for our problems. Not only do we pull oursleves up by our own bootstraps and dust ourselves off and do better in our lives and for our country, we do not blame others for our own mistakes, short comings and embarrassing outbursts.

And especially embarrassing outbursts.

And were all the Secret Service agents Liberals as well? LOL

AprilOrit on January 5, 2008 at 5:48 PM

You can not push a liberal.

How about you cannot push an American working for a candidate at a crowded election event regardless of who you are during times of war and terrorism?

I bet if it was Dan Rather you would have a whole different opinion of what transpired.

AprilOrit on January 5, 2008 at 5:55 PM

Any doubts that the footage will end up on the next Factor Body Language segment?

I’m not blaming the liberal for O’Reilly’s “bad behavior”.

I’m not accepting the idea the O’Reilly was engaging in “bad behavior”.

I’m making the case that the liberal mindset knows knows just how far they can push, and when ‘we’ push back, that makes us brown shirt, storm trooper, jack booted thugs.

Although I can’t view the video, if any, but looking at the photos, you can see that just the presence of the Secret Service officer was enough to calm the situation, in a very professional, competent manner.

O’Reilly was pushy, the staffer was obviously insulted that he had been ‘man handled’ by a right wing thug.

rockhauler on January 5, 2008 at 5:58 PM

Classic liberal; I can get in your face, invade your space, block your view, block your camera shot, call you names, but don’t you dare push back.

rockhauler on January 5, 2008 at 3:38 PM

Enough said. Thank you.

petefrt on January 5, 2008 at 6:00 PM

From the vids and the words, it seems as though neither man covered himself in glory in the behavioral area. It’s hard to know who to root for in this battle.

If Oprahbama can go to SC for MLK day when the NAACP is still boycotting the state, he can go on the factor.

rockhauler on January 5, 2008 at 5:45 PM

You can’t push back on anybody if you push first.

That is the extremely basic fact you seem to me unable to comprehend here.

e-pirate on January 5, 2008 at 6:19 PM

While I’d wish better treatment for MM, still I’m grateful to O’Reilly for his accomplishments in the culture war. He’s been a fearless champion for our side, and few in the media have accomplished as much as he.

e-pirate on January 5, 2008 at 6:19 PM

On the contrary, I understand it completely.

You are saying that you can do anything you can imagine to me, as long as you do not physically touch me.

You are also saying that once I touch you, I’m the bad guy.

Just how childish is that?

I’ve posted enough on this thread, very unusual for me, and obviously no one will be persuaded.

Have a nice day.

You can’t push back on anybody if you push first.

Bill O’Reilly pushed first and ran into a space that was not his. Stop not only buying his snake oil, stop drinking it already.

Jeez, you guys are drunk on O’Reilly’s brand of kool-aid – a brand mostly deadly.

If crazy Dan Rather ran into McCain’s space or Fred’s space and started touching and pushing the staff you guys would be mortified. If he called Huckabee an SOB, God I could imagine the comments.

People would be asking for his head on a stick.

AprilOrit on January 5, 2008 at 6:37 PM

And God forbid if someone ran into Rudy’s staff like that.

Forget about it….

AprilOrit on January 5, 2008 at 6:38 PM

?

Never been at a crowded election event have you?

Maybe we can get DHS to pass a ‘no jostling at crowded events’ law. Reporters “push” people around to get shots every day, but I guess if O’Reilly does it, it’s wrong.

And no, I’m not a big O’Reilly fan, but I don’t have BODS either, jeez, you don’t like O’Reilly, we get it, thanks.
