Video: “It’s pretty clear we’re going to have a ticket to the next dance”

A little early morning porn for the Fredheads. As our resident Fred-hater, csdeven, said last night, how’s he going to negotiate the little matter of the Michigan primary on the 15th? His strategy presumably is to go directly to South Carolina, but whoever comes out the winner in Michigan is going to have serious momentum down there on the 19th — unless, that is, it’s Mitt. If he drops New Hampshire to McCain, as is now expected, and then stops the bleeding in his old home state, that would give all three leaders one primary apiece heading into SC and no clear frontrunner among them. An optimal situation for Fred, so the ‘Heads may now find themselves momentarily in the strange position of rooting for Maverick and then Mitt.
“We’ll have to look at our finance numbers,” he told the crowd last night re: his sojourn to the south. Better donate now if you haven’t yet.
Update: Does he say “finance” numbers or “final” numbers?

Don’t tease us like that AP. The morning is already going bad enough.

Maybe he can borrow some of McCain’s Keating 5 funds?
Mr. Bingley on January 4, 2008 at 9:23 AM
Oh and Politico really doesn’t like Fred do they? I read the article you liked and they made it sound more like a funeral then folks facing the reality that there is a tough road ahead for Fred, you know not having a good head of hair and all that.
LakeRuins on January 4, 2008 at 9:26 AM
I doubt the Fredalanche will happen.
You might just see a Fredball fight.

The video link wants to download a .flv file. What the heck is that?
flipflop on January 4, 2008 at 9:26 AM
Hmmm…didn’t he say this:
Please stop pulling information from Politico. They can’t even get a quote right. But any investigative work I completely trust them on…oy.
sunny on January 4, 2008 at 9:26 AM
It’s funny, I was down in SC for the holidays and saw more Ron Paul signs over any other candidate.
Although that could have very easily been one Ron Paul nut who threw one up at every street corner.
It still made me chuckle.

How was that for fire in the belly? Looked good to me.

Fred’s campaign’s gonna put me in the poorhouse! But I’m not complaining. I have 5 grandkids who need a country they can see with their own eyes. I have this mental vision of them sitting around listening to nostalgic stories about how the old people used to have private property. How we used to get appointments for medical care within days instead of weeks or months. How we used to have these things called SUVs where all of them could fit in the back. How the internet used to be a)free and b)uncensored. How America was once a superpower, and Americans were proud to come to the aid of other nations whose people were stricken with disaster or enslaved to a cruel dictator. How English was the common language, and they didn’t have to do Spanish and Arabic homework. I could go on.
Guess I’ll be making a donation in their names today.
RushBaby on January 4, 2008 at 9:35 AM
Allah- I stuck with ya despite your obvious and unaccountable preference for Mitt over Fred, BUT USING CSDEVEN AS A SOURCE ON A FRED POST!!!
Dude, that’s over the line.
I’m outta here. Later folks.
Ex-tex on January 4, 2008 at 9:36 AM
Fred made a two week push in Iowa and came in third, Edwards has lived in Iowa for the last 4 years, has staked his whole campaign on winning there and eked out a distant 2nd place, but Politico decides to run the hit piece on Fred. What is it with them? If this guy is such a non-factor why does Politico run an attack story on the guy every other day?
Dudley Smith on January 4, 2008 at 9:38 AM
With the million upon millions that Mitt has spent…probably 20 times or more than any other candidate. And maybe 50 times more then Fred…and Mitt gets taken down, Fred holds his own. Mitt better have another 100 million for the next couple of months.
It is beginning to show that Mitt does not have enough money to buy the votes he needs, you just can’t keep spending tens of millions of dollars, there is a law of diminishing return, and I think we see that law being applied.

Still waiting for the quote to be fixed. Politico has the quote wrong that you have referenced above. Let’s at least quote fred correctly.
sunny on January 4, 2008 at 9:43 AM
Fred made a great show. While I hoped for 15%+, a 3rd place finish is awesome. The media including Fox is doing every thing they can to avoid his name.
TheSitRep on January 4, 2008 at 9:44 AM
That’s NOT what Fred said, and I’m disappointed you’re using Politico as a source. They’ve been proven to be factually incorrect and completely biased. They’re not above making things up. I thought HA had better standards than that.
jdawg on January 4, 2008 at 9:51 AM
DANG IT!!! I HATE it when I prove Slub-log right!

Isn’t this a bigger issue for the GOP?
Total Voter Turnout (approximate)
356,000
Percentage of total vote
24.5% Obama
20.5% Edwards
19.8% Clinton
11.4% Huckabee (R)

In SC, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul are having a sign war. The Huckabee and Fred signs are just starting to show up. On TV, its been all Mitt and Huck, with Fred showing up every now and again. No TV commercials of Teh Patriot! yet, but he does have radio ads warning SC of the North America Union and the NAFTA Superhighway.
BohicaTwentyTwo on January 4, 2008 at 10:35 AM
Final
It sounds pretty clear that he says final. He had also just commented on how they would have to wait a couple days for all precincts to report. Thank you for updating this…

Sent $50 to Fred this morning.

It doesn’t count for much in electoral votes but it’s still a primary win and, so, a state under one’s belt. Has anyone been to Wyoming — it’s primary is 1/5? I’d bet ya whoever sets foot in the state, even for half a day, would win it.
Dusty on January 4, 2008 at 10:42 AM
Lexington and Richland County in SC are loaded with Paul and McCain signs. Fred usually has one and it’s surrounded. Huck and Mitt are in there too, but I’d rank it Paul, McCain, Fred, Huck, Mitt.
Just what I’ve seen recently…I’m writting an article for Politico about how Paul will obviously win the SC primary. Fox news will give me an exclusive.
sunny on January 4, 2008 at 10:43 AM
Oh yeah, and it might give that candidate a leg up on the cluster of Mountain states, besides Utah which is Romney’s.

thomashton on January 4, 2008 at 10:47 AM
Well Fred isn’t going to do well in NH but he might do well in Wyoming on Sat (where Liz Cheney is helping him).
Next comes Mich. Which is Romney country.
Then South Carolina where Fred has an organization.
Question is, will he have the money to hold out until South Carolina?
bnelson44 on January 4, 2008 at 10:48 AM
Oh wait, here’s something:
Win or place and he’s on the upswing? Go Fred!
Dusty on January 4, 2008 at 10:52 AM
Yup. Like I said last night, Fred should schedule a presser in Casper, than a quick stop in Jackson. It would be that easy. And don’t forget the cowboy hat!
Plus, he has Liz Cheney working for him there already
wccawa on January 4, 2008 at 10:54 AM
He said final, clear as day. Politico is officially a rag with its own agenda. They’d probably describe the atmosphere in that video as “dour, deathlike, and pessimistic”. Don’t buy their lies, just watch the actual events and judge for yourself.
SC is going to go to Edwards and Thompson. Huck had his day in Iowa, and it’s going to be one of the few. We’re gonna start seeing Romney do well, and Fred’s going to have to maintain his new crazy schedule to give Romney clear competition. I think he can do it, and I think if he can take SC without it being too tight, it’ll be just the boost he needs for the long haul.
FRED!

I’d also like to clear up a common concern about Fred and how he has no money, as csdeven and TedKennedy have been oft preaching.
http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/index.asp?cycle=2008
Um…according to these figures, he’s got more cash to play with than McCain. He’s also raised more than Rudy or Huck (yeah, Huck, the frontrunner). So if money is all that is needed to get elected, how come Huck is the frontrunner?
If those numbers are right, money is one of the least of Fred’s worries.
MadisonConservative on January 4, 2008 at 11:08 AM
I am shocked this Thompson guy might actually have a shot.
Inferno spotted!
Fred!
infidel on January 4, 2008 at 11:29 AM
Michigan does not matter unless the media makes it matter. How profitable will it bo to the networks to put Michigan into the spotlight? It won’t and they will largely leave it alone. The money from ratings is to be made from Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.
Heck a loss for Romney would be the story coming out of that state, not what happens to Fred. Fred has not campaigned there, no candidate has done much campaigning there.
South Carolina picks the nominee/

you know….i was thinking about all that ‘fire in the belly’ shite….& I realized that I would rather have a candidate w/ fire in the pants….

lobosan5 on January 4, 2008 at 12:05 PM
From the video, compared to the Politico story.
“Chants of ‘Fred’ sound forced” Not on the video, just what’s reported at Politico again I guess.
“And we’ll have to look a the final numbers; and we’ll have to look at the money situation…”
That’s from the video, misquoted at Politico.
You know, Politico really needs to restrict themselves to reporting on events that don’t have video capture; or the ability to go to a person and ask them directly if the “anonymous source” was accurate. Maybe Horoscopes and Hollywood insider gossip would fit their reporting style and accuracy better… Because they’re reporting accuracy at Politico seems somewhere around the accuracy of IMAO or the Onion recently.
Seriously Allah, is it worth linking to Politico when the stories linked have been wrong in a significant or relevant manner most of the time over the past month?

I did read an interesting comment somewhere…
Given that every news organization on the planet (and several off the planet) re-ran the Politico lies, how would Fred have done if you take away the Politco hits?
Seriously: take away the silly hat rule hit piece and the “Fred is dropping out” piece, and what effect would it have had? Or would it have had an effect?
wccawa on January 4, 2008 at 1:27 PM
Just watched the video. **GUSH** I think that is the first time this campaign season where a candidate unabashedly sang the praises of America and how we need to make sure we pass the blessings of this country onto our children. Compare that to Shrillary and the others who claim it is time for a change because everything is so rotten in this country.
I don’t care if Fred! took a page out of the Gipper’s playbook, it is refreshing to hear what he had to say. On my way to donate.

Aggie85 on January 4, 2008 at 2:30 PM
AP,
As much as I think the Michigan primary matters also, part of the post you reference had a factual error. The Nevada primary is after SC. So Fred has NH, Wyoming, and Michigan, before SC. NH he will not do well. Wyoming he might, and Michigan he is weak.
It was the dem primary that is after Nevada. Sorry for the error.
