Video: Chris Matthews beholds his Messiah

This is from last night/this morning, after Obama’s win. All you Huck haters out there, pay a little attention to how some Democrats are talking about Barack Obama now. The reality of Obama is that he’s a one-term senator, somewhat charismatic but in terms of politics a near Marxist liberal and on foreign policy a total neophyte and squish. He’s not qualified for the job he seeks. He speaks in platitudes, but that’s what people want. Whether it’s Ezra Klein talking about how Obama can apparently stop time or whether it’s Chris Matthews here talking about how Obama has been delivered to us (I missed the star over the stable, unfortunately), the phenomenon that put Huck on top on our side is also at work on the other side. We’ll have to name it at some point if it goes on long enough, but for now just take a gander at it.
Exit statement: Huckabee’s rise isn’t friendly to libertarians in the GOP, but Obama’s rapture is even less friendly to libertarians.
(h/t John Ziegler)

Foreign policy, taxes and security aside… Huckabee is a breath of fresh air. Between Hillary, Obama and Edwards, it’s hard to pick who is more frightening. All three would be an absolute nightmare.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that Senator Barack Obama has opened a ten-percentage point victory [lead] over former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, 47% to 37% The survey also found Obama with a six-point lead over Mitt Romney, 45% to 39%.

I heard someone (can’t remember who) point out that Olbermann is a big Hillary supporter. Do we have any video evidence of this?
freakagriep on January 4, 2008 at 4:31 PM
…and Matthews/Olbermann teaming up to discuss no less. Ugh, how could anyone enjoy listening to those to pontificate together.

Delivered to us…to re-engage the world.
Funny stuff from the secular left.

Obama is going to be a problem for us, no matter who we nominate. As is evident in this post, he’s seen as the Messiah. He would have to do a whole lot wrong in order to be damaged, and even then…
I still think Hillary is the best bet we can go up against in the general.

WASHINGTON (AP) Friday January 4, 2:17 pm ET — President Bush said Friday that while there is some uncertainty about slowing economic growth, the nation’s “financial markets are strong and solid.”
Bush spoke after meeting with his top economic advisers about possibly drafting a package to stimulate the U.S. economy as it weathers the housing slump, rising oil prices and an uptick in unemployment.
“This economy is on a solid foundation” Bush said.

NEW YORK (AP) Friday January 4, 3:48 pm ET — Wall Street plunged again Friday after the government’s much-anticipated employment report showed weaker-than-expected job growth and a rise in the unemployment rate. The Nasdaq composite index, also pummeled by a downgrade of Intel Corp., skidded more than 3 percent, while the Dow Jones industrials fell more than 1.5 percent.
The Labor Department’s report that employers raised payrolls by only 18,000 and that the nation’s unemployment rate rose to its highest level since November 2005 unnerved investors, who worried that a weakening job market will hurt consumer spending.

Would it be blasphemous to photoshop a halo over Obama’s head?
And behold, from the northeast arrived liberal pundits bearing gifts of sickles, hammers, and ration stamps.

Nah. Give the AP a day or two and they’ll take one of those photos that make it look like the guy has his own halo.

I would say that “man on a white horse” comes closest, but I don’t think that it even approaches the naked joy and love expressed by Matthews and company. Obama inspires outright and unprofessional adoration in these guys, to the point that they can’t even make an attempt to hide it. They’re building him up as the second coming of JFK. If there were a cardboard stand-up of him there, they’d be gazing at it adoringly like those kids in JESUS CAMP.

Iowa, Chrissy.
He’s hit a bloop single to right field on the first day of the season. The pennant is a long way off.

So, does Chrissy now think that Obama is the sexiest thing – he’s always slobbering over somebody. The guy is definitely deprived of…food.

True and tricky. I, however, don’t believe the Clintons are done yet. This is yet to be a war-of-all-wars. NH is not Iowa.

I got my campaign contributions from Norman Hsu
He gave me money that I sure could use
People love it when I lose,
They love my dirty laundry
Well, I coulda been suing a McDonalds, but I married up
I just have to look good compared to the rest, I dont have to be clear
Come and whisper dirty tricks in my ear
See my dirty laundry
See me when Im up
See me when Im down
See me when Im up
See me when Im down
See me when Im up
See me go round and round
We got the silky-pony who
Comes on all poor like
He can tell you bout channeling the dead with a gleam
In his eye
Its interesting when people die-
See his dirty laundry
Can we trash Obama yet?
You know, the boys in my campaign got a
Running bet
Got the dirt on him all set!
I love others dirty laundry
You dont really need to know whats going on
You dont really want to know just how far Ive gone
Just leave me well enough alone
Eat my dirty laundry
See me when Im up
See me when Im down
See me when Im up
See me when Im down
See me when Im up
See me when Im down
See me when Im stiff
See me when Im talkin southern black all around
My dirty little secrets
My dirty little lies
Ive got my dirty little fingers in everybodys pie
I love to cut em down to size
I love dirty laundry
I can do the innuendo
I can pounce and I can sing
When its all said and done I havent told you a thing
You all know that my crap is king
Give me dirty laundry!

The phenomemon is a cross between “Instant Celebrity” and “Hero Worship”.
Its straight out of western movies. The bulletproof hero, riding in on a white horse, oozing virtue and wholesomeness, speaking little but doing nothing but good deeds, aiding us in our battle against the evil cattle rustlers or land barons or whatever.
We puff them up our of our own hopes and fears ignoring their flaws and frailties, because we NEED to BELIEVE in something pure and good.
Its pure fantasy and eventually the bubble bursts.

Although the general is almost a year away…. if we held the election yesterday:
Obama – Marxist
vs.
Huckabe – Marxist-Lite
In my mind, Huck is the worst of both worlds. He’s a liberal in conservative clothing and his “prophet” status is sure to alienate a slue of voters.
You have to hand it to the MSM. They know how to prop up a GOP candidate who has a snowball’s chance of winning the election.
It’s a good thing there’s still a lot of ground between now and then.
natesnake on January 4, 2008 at 5:06 PM
So if you happened to register as a Democrat, you’d write in a Republican? I’ve done the reverse, I suppose, when I was unhappy about my choices. Still, it’s more practical to choose among what you’ve got. Fred certainly isn’t going to capture the Democratic nomination, after all.

Our culture has largely abandoned Christian values and is adrift. With that void needing to be filled, many people are desparately looking for something that seems safe and easy to grab onto. In this environment, Oprack Winframa may be unstoppable. It also may be why now is the right time for Huckabee. He’s no Mark Driscoll, but his social/cultural message is courageous to many.
MT on January 4, 2008 at 5:11 PM
The reality is that no matter who won the Democratic caucus in Iowa last night, these wankers on the left would be engaging in this same journalistic fellatio over him/her.
They want a Democrat to win so badly in November, they’re going to do this every time a new Dem front runner emerges.
flipflop on January 4, 2008 at 5:11 PM
And after 11 months of making this clear, which will be easy, as it is true, Obama returns to the desert.
JiangxiDad on January 4, 2008 at 5:12 PM
I have staunchly conserative friends who have been registered Democrats for years. Their schtick is to vote in the primaries for most conservative candidate and hope their GOP bretheran have good picks on their own. That way they can try to hedge their bets in the general that there may be two reasonable candidates. We live in a Blue Dog state.

So our strategy is to make sure our guy sucks less than theirs? Sounds like 2000 and 2004 all over again.
I would sure like to be able to believe in my candidate again.
conservnut on January 4, 2008 at 5:19 PM
That contrasts with the strategy of voting for the most unelectable Dem so people vote for the Repub in the general. The scary thing is that it’s mathematically impossible to avoid this type of trickster B.S. due to Arrow’s impossibility theorem. Still, the Iowa Democrat methods seem rather suspect, with Richardson voters blackmailing Clinton voters to join them (to give Richardson the 15% and prevent his supporters from joining Obama) and selections via rock-paper-scissors.
calbear on January 4, 2008 at 5:19 PM
Just watching Chrissy twitch while splooging down his leg at the thought of an Obama Presidency makes me ill. I can only hope he soiled Olbermanns leg as well.
Tim Zank on January 4, 2008 at 5:21 PM
It’s freaking amazing how we suddenly think the world has changed because a few cornstalk huggers gave Barrack Hussein Obama and Mike Jesus Huckabee a few more of their practically purchased votes than the other guys.
Obama has the Hillary machine now wounded and dedicated to showing the world what he is… NOT READY FOR THE JOB. And it’s easy… because it’s true. And Huck? Good grief. Even we southerners think his aw-shucks approach is grating.
Sugar Land on January 4, 2008 at 5:21 PM
Nah, I’m just kidding around. But I seriously can’t imagine myself voting for any of the tools on that side. With the qualified ones you get an old school patrician liberal who just knows better than you and hasn’t had an original thought since 1974, a plagiarist gaffe machine who flashes his teeth and makes jokes about Indians, and a governor who wants to turn Pakistan into Iran as soon as possible. Among the unqualified ones, you have three quasi Marxists, a crazy guy and a loon. I may have missed one somewhere. You all can have fun sorting out which ones I’m talking about where, I guess.
Bryan on January 4, 2008 at 5:22 PM

Yes, but to many folks the cultural slide is even more unsettling than higher taxes, immigration or jihad. I won’t include myself in that group, but it’s not difficult for me to commisurate. Huckabee has tapped that vein of cultural discontent like no other politician has.
MT on January 4, 2008 at 5:25 PM
Addition, with indulgence – also to help out:
While they’re looking to fill the void, they’re letting an Obama/Clinton in, to destroy all that even faster, and the country too. Safe, and easy, smart too.
Entelechy on January 4, 2008 at 5:28 PM
A vocal, passionate and unapologetic defense of life, marriage, and Christian values is what Huckabee is offering. Many people won’t think that feels like a hug.

And, man, have you ever heard a more sycophantic pile of dribble than that on a news analysis program, short of Matthews himself in the clip Laura Ingraham liked to play of Matthews gushing over the appearance of Bill Clinton in Philadelphia campaigning for Kerry? (That was after his heart surgery, when Billy C had dropped a few lbs. and Matthews was gushing, “Look at him! He looks great! He’s thin! Ha!”)
Captain Scarlet on January 5, 2008 at 4:34 AM
Think about this…with three unelectable choices, the Dems will have to bray all the louder about how great their chances are, their candidates are. It’s all lies.
One of the funniest things I saw on the internet this year was when I visited the website of a fine singer songwriter, Matraca Berg.
She hadn’t updated her site in a while, and she featured a video from 2004 where she and her husband proclaimed their love and excitement for…John Kerry.
I love her music; I haven’t been back to see if she’s catching the Obama wave or jumped on the Hillary bandwagon.
Maybe she’s still pining for Flipper.
Doug on January 5, 2008 at 11:31 AM
How so? The Republicans in the House and Senate would be less prone to work against a Republican President’s goals of raising taxes or increasing spending than a Democrats (could Clinton have passed the Prescription Drug addon for Medicare?).
However Democrats don’t generally get smacked around in the House and Senate as badly for the same behavior. So they’ll work with either to raise taxes.
So, raising taxes, increasing spending, etc. Huck will have everyone on his side, Obama will only have the Dems.
How does this make Obama worse, or Huck better?
Exit question: Wouldn’t a Huck win signal to Senate/House Repubs that fiscal conservatism is dead, and what people really want is social conservatism and increased taxes/spending?
I’m sorry, I just don’t see how Huck trumps Obama here.
