The Pentagon’s Muslim tug-of-war ends in defeat

Islam, no pun intended as you’ll see below, wins a victory at the highest levels of the Pentagon.
Mentioned Dec 28, Steve Coughlin is looking for a new job.
Stephen Coughlin, the Pentagon specialist on Islamic law and Islamist extremism, has been fired from his position on the military’s Joint Staff. The action followed a report in this space last week revealing opposition to his work for the military by pro-Muslim officials within the office of Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England.
Mr. Coughlin was notified this week that his contract with the Joint Staff will end in March, effectively halting the career of one of the U.S. government’s most important figures in analyzing the nature of extremism and ultimately preparing to wage ideological war against it.
He had run afoul of a key aide to Mr. England, Hasham Islam, who confronted Mr. Coughlin during a meeting several weeks ago when Mr. Islam sought to have Mr. Coughlin soften his views on Islamist extremism.
Mr. Coughlin was accused directly by Mr. Islam of being a Christian zealot or extremist “with a pen,” according to defense officials. Mr. Coughlin appears to have become one of the first casualties in the war of ideas with Islamism.
The officials said Mr. Coughlin was let go because he had become “too hot” or controversial within the Pentagon.
This is in a Pentagon run by a Republican president who has called himself a “war president” in the past. Emphasis on “past,” apparently.

It’s nice to know that simple smears are now enough to bring our military to its knees. We don’t need to bring back the .308, so much as to collectively sit down and try to remember where we were the last time we used our Malkins.

This is insanity is the logical result of everything that Bush has ever said about Islam. When Bush called himself a “war president” in the past, it was merely a joke. Bush has neither the intelligence nor wisdom to be serious about the survival of the West.
We need either someone serious about our culture’s survival or a Democrat we can oppose.

When the leader of the free world is a token idiot, how do you not expect incompetence from those who serve under him to be any different. To dismiss a person who has a clear understanding of the Islamic threat because he is too demonstartive reflects an incompetence that is indicative of the leadership in both parties. Read “Rule By Secrecy” by Jim Maars and see what may be the reason why all of this is happening like it is.

So let me get this straight. . .
The pentagon’s #1 guy with knowledge of Islamic extremism brings up an issue with Islam he deems important to the safety of America. Then a Muslim inside the pentagon says that Muslims aren’t that bad and he should say so.
The pentagon then fires the #1 guy acting in our defense because he did his job. . . and was profiled and considered a Christian extremist.
Our country does not have the ability to defend itself. The Pentagon failed miserably under Rumsfeld with Iraq and that is what has caused so much trouble with the war. The Pentagon should be ashamed because they really can’t defend us.
Maybe Ron Paul is right and we should just cut the military spending if they are just going to destroy us from within on behalf of our sworn enemies like this. If this is how they use my tax dollars, I want my money back.

Debbie Schlussel: With a Pentagon Like This, Who Needs Enemies?
After word of the confrontation between Mr. Coughlin and Mr. Islam was made public, support for Mr. Coughlin skyrocketed among those in and out of government who feared the worst, namely that pro-Muslim officials in the Pentagon were after Mr. Coughlin’s scalp, and that his departure would be a major setback for the Pentagon’s struggling efforts to develop a war of ideas against extremism. Blogs lit up with hundreds of postings, some suggesting that Mr. England’s office is “penetrated” by the enemy in the war on terrorism. . . .
A Joint Staff spokesman had no immediate comment.
From comments:
Speechless! Flabbergasted. Bush’s legacy has indeed been written and it ain’t that good either.

Not yelling at Allah for your posts. Allah posts at this blog and given his omnisciency I know he will see it. You have schmucks for readers? Who knew?
I identify this blog with both of you and with Michelle even though she does not post here.
Allah though has made it his duty to bash Fred and so I was asking given the paucity of choices in this election who his choice was? Who is YOUR choice? And who is Michelle’s choice and why be coy about it?
I have been moving away from National Review because of their lack of balls regarding Islam but at least they announced their choice for President. Makes it easy to read their coverage of other candidates because we know where they stand. It would be easier to deal with Allah’s bashing of Fred if he would simply say hey I want this or that person to win.
This issue, firing of Coughlin, shows the inability of the Bush administration to actually win this war. They can win battles on the backs of men like Andy Olmstead but they cannot win the war because they are corrupted by the idiocy of multiculturalism. Islam will take those idiots to the cleaners in the battle of philosophy. Soooo asking who y’all are supporting for President is natural.
Sorry for not noticing who wrote the byline.
PierreLegrand on January 4, 2008 at 9:58 PM
This is nonsense. I’m a moderate Republican. I’m one hundred ten percent into defending the West. Bush is conservative Republican. It’s his and Romney’s mindless justification of religion–regardless of the content of the religion–as always something good that got into this mess. Why can’t Christians justify Christian faith in itself without resorting to defending faith regardless of the content of the faith? Does this method even defend Christianity? I’m an atheist and I can think up better justifications of Christianity than this mindless justification of faith in itself. Communisim is a faith. Islam is faith. Mayan religion with its routine human sacrifice is a faith. Faith alone is garbage. It’s the content of the faith which needs to be justified. Argue Christianity is good and true because it responds to some set of needs in the human condition.
thuja on January 4, 2008 at 10:04 PM
Thank you for this follow up Bryan.
I knew that this was its likely ending. One of the scariest clues of this unfolding nightmare and it will fade away in the election hub bub.
Just one islamophobe head rolled but surely this “racist” had allies skulking in hall ways speaking ill of Islam (which the UN just this week deemed illegal). They too must be exposed and expunged or at least dhimmified into silence.
I’m just painting too dark a portrait of our friends like Mr. Islam you may well say. Just because Islam subverted all it’s targets in history with these tactics doesn’t mean Islam would employ them today does it?
Now if Mr.Islam comes forward and overtly declares his apostasy I would be slightly mollified. Are the people in the Pentagon apostates? If they are not apostates, how can they be undermining Muslims (who fight to please Allah and advance Islam) by working for the great satan? Can’t every one smell the smell here?
Of course having “pro Muslim officials” backing you, half a Wormtongues job is already done.

And thuja, who ever told you you were a moderate Republican? Had they ever read anything you wrote?
Buzzy on January 4, 2008 at 11:08 PM
Conservative Republicans do not commit US Troops to war without massive increases in Defense spending, Bush did. Conservative Republicans do not try and give Amnesty to 20 million illegals, Bush tried 3 separate times and was despeparate enough to lie about it the last two times. Conservative Republicans do not preside over vast increases in the size and scope of the Governments reach into our lives but Bush joined hands with Kennedy to bloat our government. Conservative Republicans do not hold hands with our enemies, and Bush has repeatedly held hands with Saudi Kings, Muslim terrorists and their like.
Bush is a big business moderate Republican, perhaps the most dangerous sort of politician in modern history. He listens to the likes of Mohawk textiles when they pine away for illegals to man their factories and he listens to Islam when it claims it is the Religion of Peace.
A Dhimmicrat would have to be Satan himself to be much worse.
Conservatives have not caused the Republicans to lose these last few elections. RHINO’s pissing on the base have caused them to stay home.

What credentials does Mr. England carry? Is he also under contract? Then perhaps we can take advantage of the fact that he can not claim for wrongful termination as well.
Clearly Mr. England’s interests do not lie with American interests – at least not as those interests have been understood since the last great war.
Stop this insanity.
heroyalwhyness on January 4, 2008 at 11:48 PM
My point doesn’t even require that I “understand conservative Christians.” And I could be a devout Christian and make the same point. My point is that conservative Christians should argue for Christianity in a way that doesn’t justify Islam or ancient Mayan human sacrifice.
Bush and Romney have justified faith for its own sake–regardless of the content of the faith. That means all faiths are good no matter how heretical or evil the faith. We are left with Islam being good by definition. How can that make sense for a conservative Christian?

Say what you will about Rudy, but I think he’s probably the least shy about shining a harsh spotlight on exactly who the enemy is and what they’re about. His latest ad comes across like a movie trailer, but the images clearly point to Islamic extremists as the number one threat to America. It’s pretty far from being politically correct, I’d say. I can’t see Rudy standing for one moment for a Pentagon official being fired for telling the truth about jihadists and their sympathizers.
Fred might also be that tough and straightforward, but Rudy’s statements, ads, and personal history prove that he would be. I mean, the man returned $10 million to a terrorist supporter, and he kicked Arafat’s terrorist a$$ right out of NYC.

When a nations military becomes politicized you end up with coupes.
The leaders must take the high road and understand as Sun Tsu did. The best defense is a better offense because can not negotiate with the enemy. Once the enemy is identified the military’s function is to mitigate its influence or eliminate it.
Once the enemy is neutralized/eliminated, the military returns to its defensive posture to develop new offensive tactics learned from the recent encounter and weapons to win the next encounter.
When politicized the military does not know who the enemy is and disintegrates into establishing themselves as the protector of the people (remember a military is usually a cross section of the nation that created it) until a leader comes along that can gain the military trust so it can return to being the defensive tool it was designed to be.

Sadly, this would align with the GW “stay the course” with Rumsfeld’s let them eat cake strategy vs. fortification of invasion.
Witness evangelical compassionate conservative = bleeding heart liberal with GW and then project Huck’s version to the power of 10 at least.
N.B. the timing of this dismissal with GW’s successful de-funding of the border fence. (Shame on Kay Bailey Hutchison.)
So what gives on national security? Will the conservative movement gain over compassionate RHINOs?
