Hillary declares: I’m the “most innocent”

Via Riehl, I can almost taste the bile.

Hillary Rodham Clinton opened a five-day campaign to target what her aides call Barack Obama’s inexperience, delivering sharper attacks against the Iowa winner that are likely to become more personal and negative, according to Democrats familiar with the evolving strategy.

“Of all the people running for president, I’ve been the most vetted, the most investigated, and — my goodness — the most innocent, it turns out,” she told a cheering crowd in an airport hangar.

ABC’s version makes clear that she means it in the sense that she’s never, you know, actually been convicted of anything. Even so, a Yale-educated lawyer should know better. The correct term, senator, is “not guilty.”

No worries. Turns out she’s the best presidential candidate the Clenis has ever seen. I think she’s going to do well with her new strategy of campaigning against … hope. Exit question: Am I wrong to detect a dark hint in this that an Obama scandal highlighting her comparative “innocence” might be about to drop? The rumors have been there for awhile. I’d love to see her try it, if only to watch the starstruck Messiah acolytes try to wring her neck with his halo. How fulsome has the worship gotten? Dude.

Update: Dark secrets spilled at the Corner!

Vince Foster might beg to differ.

I never knew there were degrees of innocence.

But her husband saw shades of meaning in the word “is” so maybe this is a family genius thing.

TexasDan on January 4, 2008 at 1:26 PM

ABC’s version makes clear that she means it in the sense that she’s never, you know, actually been convicted of anything.

As slogans go, that’s almost as inspiring as “Often indicted, never convicted.”

ReubenJCogburn on January 4, 2008 at 1:28 PM

dude indeed.

He is not the Word made flesh, but the triumph of word over flesh, over color, over despair.

I think, in terms of hyperbole, that we can confidently say that Obama’s press has peaked.

TexasDan on January 4, 2008 at 1:29 PM

“Ive been the most vetted, the most investigated, and my goodness the most innocent …”

And doggone it, people *like* me!

Ron Brown, too.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on January 4, 2008 at 1:30 PM

Hillary to Bush: “Why can’t you catch bin Laden?”

Bush to Hillary: “Why can’t you catch your husband?”

Tony737 on January 4, 2008 at 1:31 PM

She’s not a “change agent” anymore? I just got used to that.

Now she’s “innocent”? Maybe she got one of those Muslim hymen repair thingys along with her Botox last night.

Wonder what she’ll be in the next state.

JiangxiDad on January 4, 2008 at 1:32 PM

Like Ann Coulter said, I won’t believe she’s gone until I see the body.

wryteacher on January 4, 2008 at 1:33 PM

She’s innocent. I’m white.

MadisonConservative on January 4, 2008 at 1:36 PM

Remember the guy, with an angel perched on one shoulder and a demon on the other, trying to decide the right thing to do.

Hillary’s got a demon on both shoulders, plus the lip-biter tugging at her pants-suit.

If her campaign goes ugly on Bam-Bam it will backfire on her and Slick, bigtime.

fogw on January 4, 2008 at 1:39 PM

It all depends on what the meaning of “innocent” is.

amerpundit on January 4, 2008 at 1:40 PM

If Hillary’s the most innocent, then csdeven is HotAir’s #1 Fred fan.

thirteen28 on January 4, 2008 at 1:42 PM

MOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Hillary is innocent I say!

MOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

You saw nothing.

BKennedy on January 4, 2008 at 1:48 PM

I think its almost time for Hillary to give another rousing speech in a black church about how they are most like black folks.

But Hillary’s problem is with women so maybe it will be “All those evil men are out to get little ole me just an innocent woman victim of the evil males”

William Amos on January 4, 2008 at 1:49 PM

I had to snicker last night when Hillary gave her victory concession speech, with gigantic banners behind her saying “READY FOR CHANGE”.

Proof of the coming change was given evidence by the people standing behind her, including Bill the Adulterer, Madeleine Albright, Terry the Punk McCauliffe, and a host of other long time Clinton operatives.

We all know if Cankles gets in it’s gonna be a Creepeat of the 90s.

Get real.

fogw on January 4, 2008 at 1:49 PM

I think Hillary has a problem with the fact its been Bush-Clinton-Bush and now she is pushing for Clinton again.

Whatever else the clintons arent camelot and they arent a Kennedy dynasty. They will have a tough time selling change when they want back to the future.

William Amos on January 4, 2008 at 1:54 PM

The most innocent? What is Obama been accused of?

Oh, you know, he’s a black man.

pedestrian on January 4, 2008 at 1:55 PM

Vince Foster might beg to differ.

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY… Can you image Bill Clinton’s imagination when Hillary said that? “my goodness — the most innocent, it turns out”.

Bill Clinton says, “News to me!”

IntheNet on January 4, 2008 at 2:05 PM

Interesting…

Whitewater?
Billing Records?
Lieing to us about Bill?
Won’t release Documents of her roll in bill’s Whitehouse?
Vince Foster?
Dan Brown?

Won’t divorce her philandering Husband because of Politics?

Isn’t this like the UN putting the Iranians on the Human Rights Commitee?

Romeo13 on January 4, 2008 at 2:09 PM

If she tries to “drop” a scandal on Obama, she’s officially through. It will backfire in her fat face quite badly.

D2Boston on January 4, 2008 at 2:11 PM

MURDERER!
Seriously, don’t be ridiculous. I’ve no love for the woman, but come on people, it’s the flipside of BDS and sounds like nutroots speak.

SouthernDem on January 4, 2008 at 2:22 PM

The correct term, senator, is “not guilty.”

“Not caught” is probably more accurate when it comes to the Clintons.

Wake up people! Do you really want to return to this continual parsing of words? If so, Hill’s your gal.

highhopes on January 4, 2008 at 2:29 PM

“Most innocent” is just another way of saying “least guilty”. But guilty nonetheless.

flipflop on January 4, 2008 at 2:40 PM

“Of all the people running for president, I’ve been the most vetted, the most investigated, and — my goodness — the most innocent, it turns out,” she told a cheering crowd in an airport hangar.

While it pains me to quote Gobbels, this seems to fit Shrillary to a T:

…follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it…keep up [the] lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous.

Mallard T. Drake on January 4, 2008 at 2:44 PM

Hey! She’s ony a gurl.

ronsfi on January 4, 2008 at 3:04 PM

Is that the same as “least guilty”?…

I get confused by all these high-falutin’ legal terms.

mojo on January 4, 2008 at 3:10 PM

Convicted of a felony? Nope, never convicted.

AndrewsDad on January 4, 2008 at 3:17 PM

Norma Hsu was asked for comment, but………

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on January 4, 2008 at 3:21 PM

By being in the whitehouse with no security clearance, she gained valuable experience… then again so did the whitehouse chef

How fulsome has the worship gotten? Dude.

Before I read that paragraph, I thought (mistakenly) that at some point in my life I have felt love for another, and been loved myself.

Apparently, after reading the article at that link, everything I’ve ever felt is naught but mild admiration at best.

And that article can be used to show that Hugh Hewitt isn’t “over the top” in his support of Romney; as “the top” has been completely redefined.

A virgin who gave birth after immaculate conception. That said, is Madonna going to endorse her?

Obama elevates; she claims with false hope, by getting high.

maverick muse on January 4, 2008 at 4:38 PM

Hillary may be innocent but nothing about her campaign is:

Clinton staffers banned from liberal New Hampshire blog.

The Race Card on January 4, 2008 at 4:59 PM

“Dude” indeed. Not only was Ezra Klein’s article ridiculous, you have to see the comments below it. You would think they all just joined a cult!

kcluva on January 4, 2008 at 5:15 PM

From the Ezra/NRO link:

Obama is, at his best, able to call us back to our highest selves, to the place where America exists as a glittering ideal

…none of which puts gas in my car or food on my table.

But it’s the thought that counts, no?

And by the way, if my “highest sel[f]” was calling me, I never would have passed algebra and would be suffering from a twenty-plus year bout with the munchies.

You can not beat a cornered tiger, you give it enough room to chase its own tail until it turns into butter or some other form of slime, then clean up the mess and forget it.
