How I envy those of you with the optimistic (if unrealistic) expectations. Unfortunately my deeply cynical self sees an electorate too shallow and gullible to focus on policy, rather they’re mesmerized by, hair, slick presentation and religion to have any sense of optimism left.
Barring a miracle, we’re going to get an unelectable RINO as nominee because Republicans haven’t learned the lessons of 2004 and 2006. The result? Either another Clinton National Nightmare or an Obamamania Hangover when people realize how shallow and liberal he really is.
I’ve pretty much resigned myself to the horrifying notion that the Dems will control at least two branches of government in 2008, and possibly all three by 2010. And the worst part if it comes to be? It happened because Republicans deserved to lose. Rest in peace, Republican party. You’ll be missed.

However, at risk of being kicked out of the club, I think the republican party could be galvanized for 2010. Barring a miracle, the dems will control all 3 branches of govt. after the November elections. Thus, we will still get the same “leadership” that we already have in the house and senate, and it will be combined with equally inept “leadership” in the executive branch. After 2 years of that (and 4 years of Pelosi-Reid), voters will have had enough of that.

Yeah, the only silver lining I see is that we’ll hopefully have a repeat of the ‘94 “Republican Revolution” after voters witness the carnage wrought by the Dems. If ever the Republican party needed a swift kick in the shorts as a reminder of what they’re supposed to stand for, it’s now.

Yeah, it’s a particular specialty of mine.
Think of it as a pre-emptive strike on unfavorable results. If I’m wrong, I can at least be happy about my expectations being exceeded. If I’m right, at least I’ve had lots of time to prepare myself for disappointment, which now appears to be the most likely result.
I’d like to be optimistic, but I just don’t see reason to be.

If Fred gets 15%, I’m satisfied, and he’s at 14% right now.
I’m hearing lots of good stories from the front lines, and I’m encouraged. It’s pretty much playing out like I expected, although second would have been better, obviously. He just couldn’t peel enough votes away from the Huckster.
On the other hand, I will always have long-standing doubts about the intelligence of Iowa voters from this point on. I have always paid attention to the Iowa caucuses, but this year has been an extreme learning experience for me.
So… just like I said the other night, this is just fine. No spin.
Oh, and thank God. Iowa is over!!!!!!!!!!!
