A pair of “honor killings” in Texas Updated: The girls were scared of their dad Additional updates

Send to a Friend | printer-friendly

The girls were 17 and 18, named Sarah and Amina, and police in the affluent Dallas suburb of Las Colinas say he killed them in his own cab and is still armed and considered dangerous. WFAA-TV in Dallas says that police believe they have him surrounded in a residential area of Lewisville, TV. Now, the details.

They believe the girls’ father, Yaser Abdel Said, is in one of the houses on the block.

Police are also looking at the motives which may have led Said to possibly murder his two teenage daughters, one of whom called 911 from a cell phone near the spot where the girls were later found.

Police say they are looking into the possibility that the father was upset with his daughters dating activities.

“It’s something well worth looking into,” said OFC David Tull of Irving Police.

The man’s wife is fully cooperating with inquiries, police said.

Police said earlier in a statement that the man was a suspect in the girls’ deaths.

Atlas has one of the girls’ MySpace page linked up.

This is obviously the key sentence at this point:

Police say they are looking into the possibility that the father was upset with his daughters dating activities.

It could still turn out that the man is simply crazy for reasons unrelated to the girls’ dating activities, though we’ve been through enough of these stories now to have reason to think it’s not simple craziness that led to this. Sara Carter reports in the Washington Times today that police are starting to take notice of things like “sudden jihad syndrome,” which could lead them to examine similar and related pathologies. None too soon.

Update: Fishwrap has a round-up of blog coverage.

Update: From Fishrap again.

Sisters, Amina, 18, and Sarah, 17, were each shot to death. Friends of the girls say their father was Egyptian and critical of popular American lifestyles. “I’m definitely 100% sure that it was her dad that killed her,” said Kathleen Wong, a friend of the dead teenagers.

Wong says the girl’s father was verbally abusive and that Sarah, especially, lived in fear. “She’s always told me that she was always so scared of her dad,” says Wong. “Even at school if a teacher joked around like, ‘I’m gonna tell your parents about this’, she would like totally flip out and start crying like, ‘please don’t tell’.”

Also, Said was not in the Lewisville house that the police had surrounded earlier. So he’s still presumably on the loose. There’s video of their friend talking about the father at the link.

Update: A Hot Air reader found these pics of Sarah and her friend Kathleen Wong, just clowning around and being teenage girls.

Update: Once again from Fishwrap, we learn what we already suspected about the Said family’s religion.

“Amina was very nice with everybody. She helped me in [Advanced Placement English] class,” she said. Sarah was a sophomore when she took an Algebra II class with Liz, who was a junior at the time.

She said the sisters, who wore typical American clothes, didn’t talk much about their family. “I didn’t know they were Muslims until she told me they were Egyptian and Muslim,” Liz said.

The story has more detail about the family, the killings and Amina and Sarah. The girls’ friends describe them both as very bright.

This may sound crass and it probably is, but it’s one thing to hear about these repulsive so-called “honor killings” occurring in Europe or even Canada, but Dallas is my hometown. I know what Texas justice is likely to do with Mr. Said if he’s caught and convicted, but that won’t bring those girls back and it won’t replace the sense of violation that I personally got from what he did. This isn’t some place far away we’re talking about, it’s Dallas, the buckle of the Bible belt and a city that’s as American as you can get. To say that this act makes me angry gets near the surface of what it makes me think about things right now.

Update: From Amina’s MySpace page.

amina-mspage.png

Update: Gateway Pundit points to another apparent “honor killing” in Chicago. This one doesn’t involve Islam, but rather India’s disgusting caste system.

It will be Texas’ honor to kill this scum bag as well. We will, however, wait for the trial.

Well we are not Muslim, so who are we to tell that man what is right or wrong? How can we interfere with sharia law, god’s law?

That is a huge consensus. We need to be more tolerant.

Domestic violence cuts across all spectra of ethnicity, income levels, and religion. I just heard that somewhere involving a strangled young daughter up north. Poor Ibraham Hooper just takes one step ahead and two back. Must be a bit like being Mike Tyson’s PR man.

“Sudden Jihad Syndrome”? Let’s just call it “SJS”.

Sounds like a new “twinkie defense” for Muslims and their sympathizers. If he’s captured alive, maybe he’ll get a notable controversial lawyer to represent him and they can play the “SJS” card for a reduced sentence or some such thing.

Sympathy for al Qaeda has produced “sudden jihad syndrome” in domestic terror cells unaffiliated with foreign terrorists and people seeking to carry out attacks in the U.S., a law-enforcement intelligence analysis says.

How about considering the effects of sudden Imam coercion offender syndrome?

I’ve made it clear on these pages that I am opposed to capital punishment. This man killed his own kids.

Oooh look!! A squirrel!…

HerrMorgenholz on January 2, 2008 at 8:38 PM

The=They. I shouldn’t say all but there is no compunction among folks from that neck of the woods to go to ground in Egypt when the deal goes bad whereever. I’ve seen it happen. Egypt’s got a huge untrackable population. Untrackable by western means unless you got some superhuman effort out of State.

So, obviously, they must die to please the Prophet!

Ali-Bubba on January 2, 2008 at 8:45 PM

Sisters, Amina, 18, and Sarah, 17, were each shot to death. Friends of the girls say their father was Egyptian and critical of popular American lifestyles.

Why do they ALWAYS say such crapola??? Is it a big surprise about our American lifestyles when immigrants get here? Haven’t they seen it in our Hollywood movies (maybe exaggerated, but even more of a warning) long before they get to our shores?? If he was critical of our lifestyles, why the f… did he come here?? We need to add very strict intelligence, religious, and mores tests before we let in ANY MORE foreigners. Or maybe just exclude certain countries that have a habit of practising such barbarity. I am tired of letting these vermin into our country.

If you want to come to America because you admire its freedoms and opportunities, and swear to obey OUR laws, I welcome you. But if you want to bring your barbaric cultural standards here, stay home! And that includes the Somali taxi drivers in Minneapolis, who refuse to accept seeing-eye dog owners.

Such a beautiful young lady, enjoying the freedom of America, growing up, only to be snuffed by her own flesh and blood and the influence of a Dark Ages religion bent on destroying anything beautiful.

I agree with the Dems. Let’s just give up. F*ckers.

HerrMorgenholz on January 2, 2008 at 8:49 PM

Friends of the girls say their father was… critical of popular American lifestyles.

Dude, that’s every father of a good lookin’ young daughter in America!

I don’t care what color or religion this guy was–there’s not a sane father in America that doesn’t think his little girl shouldn’t dress slutty. It’s the frickin’ insane father that murders his little girls rather than contextualizing exactly why dressing slutty isn’t going to enhance their lives.

ScottMcC on January 2, 2008 at 8:55 PM

I have 3 daughters. If there is a single muslim reading this who thinks for one second that I will let this country turn into the f*ck-story that is “normal life” for muslim women he’d better buy a goddamned flak jacket, a bullet proof helmet, and bury his ass in a bunker 20 feet underground.

thareb on January 2, 2008 at 8:57 PM

I find it very heartwarming that so many of us are utterly sickened by the deranged act of a man killing his own, two beautiful girls. In other countries, there would be dancing and camel’s milk. Here, there is a leap for coils of rope and the ritual knot-tying contest.

This is why I friggin’ love this country. In this place, we cherish the human female (most of us, anyway).

Looking in the dictionary under the letter “I” would be a good place to start. Or maybe going to the library and looking in the religion section under the letter “K” or maybe “Q”.

Two young kids, and their lives are taken away based on their father’s obsession with Islam and his wigged out culture. Muslim men should stay in the armpit countries they come from, or deal with the fact that they live in a country that doesn’t kill children for not accepting their parent’s whacked out faith.

I’m sure this clown was just a “moderate” Muslim until today.

Muslim men are failures…its why they are so angry. I mean crap look at their countries, their neighborhoods, their homes, all crappy and screwed up by their corruption and ignorance. Instead of fixing it by giving up on a religion invented by a thug/murderer they kill women. And that dumbass in the White House has a fantasy that we are going to liberate them and all of a sudden they are going to adopt liberal democratic republics. Yea and pigs will fly out of my ass.

I say bring back the strongmen and let them clean out the muslim fanatics. Iran came such a long way not because of Islam but in spite of it. The Shah didn’t have a lot of tolerance for ignorant muslim practices.

Are we noticing this kind of crap more because of the war or is it happening more because of the war. That is the question.

PierreLegrand on January 2, 2008 at 10:58 PM

Why was this family in the US?

If the American lifestyle was so offensive to him, why did he bring his family here?

Was it for money? What kind of work does he do? Why did he leave Egypt?

Is he a devout and pious follower of Mohammad? What mosque did he attend? Who is the imam there? Who else has preached at that mosque? Who built the mosque and how was it funded? Does he often make telephone calls to Egypt, or other places in the middle east?

Does anyone at homeland security have the slightest bit of curiosity about who this guy is? Does anyone care?

Sadly, this is what our Country is coming to. We are allowing these people their so-called “freedoms” because they happen to be standing upon our liberal - “can’t we all just get along” - compassionate conservative tainted soil.

We have to now feel their pain and understand their feelings. Whether its Muslims or illegals, its all the same. They are taking over our Country and until we get leadership in DC that sees this forthcoming coup, we as a Country are in deep, deep doo-doo.

This Country is becoming filled with whiney, bleeding heart wusses. Thus, I see nothing but trouble on the horizon.

Redhead Infidel on January 2, 2008 at 11:45 PM

Bryan, you’re right and wrong here, man.

Dallas is the buckle of the bible belt. We moved from Las Colinas last month to Far North Dallas. And let me tell you brother, that Las Colinas especially, is fast becoming the Burqa Belt.

The smell of curry, etc. at our previous Royal and MacArthur address was seeping up from the second floor residents beneath us, into our third floor 2 bedroom apartment. I expect my clothes to smell like curry if I go to Chaat Cafe or something, but not if they’re just hanging in my bedroom closet.

Middle-Eastern restaurants and markets are popping up like hotcakes man, with many patrons in full tali-beard and long white robes. The transformation of Las Colinas, along with the addition of the gigantic mosque in South Irving, over the last 3 years is nothing short of alarming.

I’d like to point out that I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of these two young girls, who, by all accounts mentioned in blogs, and judging by the pictures, were well-assimilated and liked by many. And that’s what I’ve been saying all along - America not only welcomes, but embraces immigrants who assimilate. It’s now sad that we lost two girls who could have further helped our community, but who are now dead because of this puke called their father. If it is an “honor” killing, and I use that term lightly, then this ass clown needs to get the needle - quickly.

I’d also like to point out that if any of the pukes try to take me out with “honor”, that they will be facing a TX CHL holder.

Exercise your rights, folks.

Thank God that this bastard kill them in TX and not NJ. TX still has the courage to shock these SOBs into eternity.

Happy to hear you were prepared, and you and your family are safe.

These pigs kill there own children. That really defines them and how barbaric they are. This is unthinkable in a rational society. I really hate them and everything they stand for.

Hey Tim. Excellent story. I’ve wondered several times what I will do if that time comes. You reacted well. Good sheepdoggin.

Although not actually part of Islam, honor killing is a custom used to enhance female suppression within Islam. As you might imagine it has a chilling and direct message for neighboring females considering an independent choice in their own lives.

It is not coaxed by the Imam or Mosque, it stems more often from the fathers perception of what other Muslim men may think of his control over his female chattel. Some look from a Muslim male acquaintance, some rumored whisper of inappropriateness overheard by an uncle.

This is not “sudden jihad syndrome”. This is not the act of a mujahadeen. Muslims will disavow this act because indeed it is not Islam. It is supposed to be done quietly and discretely and only live in whispers and nodding heads. This is messy and open and Muslims will be uncomfortable and condemnatory.

No this isn’t “extremist-radical-hijacked-Islam”, this is just your every day Muslim behavior. The guy might even just be one of those “moderate” Muslims that so many have mentioned with favor.

At any rate some “Mr. Islam” will be along to offer an alternate “truth” for you to consider.

Interesting the the onlder sisters favorite book was Native Son.

From Wiki

“… The novel is a powerful statement about racial inequality and social injustices so deep that it becomes nearly impossible to determine where societal expectations/conditioning end and free will begins. As Bigger’s lawyer points out, there is no escape from this destiny for his client ……, since they are the necessary product of the society that formed them and told them since birth who exactly they were supposed to be.”

Reading this, one can only feel for her, and most Muslim females, some females are OK with it, and that is OK with me, It is their free will.

My D&D geekiness comes out.

Islam is an Evil alignment religion. I see it in action here. I see it reading the blogging of the Quran.

I’m inclined to believe that Muhammad is a Prophet, that he did hear a Voice, but it was the voice of the Devil masquerading as God. There is a Christian saying: “Even the Devil can quote Scriptures”.

I feel like commenting on this, but what can I say that hasn’t already been said (or at least thought) by everyone that has heard of this horrible thing?

Disclaimer - Innocent until proven guilty, but we’re dealing with a pretty sure bet here, and I’m no gambler.

If anyone ever asks you if you’re capable of taking a human life, think of Yaser Abdel Said.

I for one am sick and ******* tired of people dragging their disgusting death rituals out of their demented sh**-holes and… I just have to think that a culture that winks and nods at people murdering their own children just needs to go. If CAIR wants to continue making excuses, then I hope someone has the brass tacks to get the SOBs prosecuted for inciting violence or just deport the bastards - we don’t need that sh** here.

If there are moderate Muslims out there, this has got to be item A number 1, and you have to do it inside your own countries and cultures, ’cause you’re not gonna like our outside solution.

Look at how the Palestinian Authority teaches children to hate and murder. That sh** is gonna eat one of us alive, my Muslim friends, and it ain’t gonna be me.

Sarah and Amina, may angels sing thee to thy rest.

Yaser, I’m afraid it ain’t gonna work out that way for you.

Human rights groups, muslim attack groups and the egyptian and other muslim governments will rush to this guys aid and our weak corrupted post modern judicial system will buckle.

Lets hope when they catch up to him he looks at the cops the wrong way and they put 15 or 20 holes in him.

peacenprosperity on January 3, 2008 at 4:21 AM

Even on here I’ll be called a hater and ignorant but I’ll say it anyway, islam is an out of control cult and will never be reigned in until far too much damage is done and this world becomes a very brutal, oppressive and dark place. 1500 hundred years of the same aggressive, brutal, primitive, violent behavior is ignored because of political correctness. Some day, 25, 50 or 100 years from now it will need to be irradicated.

peacenprosperity on January 3, 2008 at 4:26 AM

There is no such thing as a moderate and true muslim, only westernized muslims. And the westernized muslims are infected with the same post modern moral relativism that will eventually kill the west. Truly enlightened muslims are former muslims.

I’m sorry if you thought my imagery was crude, however it was certainly not gloating or bragadocious. It was the only thing I could think of writing to describe to describe what should happen to this person, if guilty, without letting my boiling red anger at this atrocity(sp?) make me type something that would get me banned. Even after praying for those 2 innocent girls, and for my own internal peace, last night, my blood is still boiling thinking about this.

mrfixit on January 3, 2008 at 5:30 AM

I was discussing the notion of cultural superiority a while back with a guy and asked him if he believed it was possible for one culture to be superior to another. Not just to believe itself superior, but to actually be superior. His answer, of course, was an emphatic “no”.

Then I asked him if he believed in universal rights, that is, rights to which all men and women, regardless of culture, are entitled. Since we were discussing this in the context of Islam, he saw the trap and had a hard time answering. He finally said “See, now you’ve backed me into a corner”.

These poor girls are victims of a culture that simply cannot co-exist with ours.

Muslim apologists will claim that “honor killings” aren’t a part of Islamic doctrine, and they may even be technically correct. That doesn’t negate the fact that such killings occur almost exclusively in Islamic societies.
