Video: Fred’s message to Iowa voters

posted at 8:32 pm on December 30, 2007 by Bryan

A video like this one, 17 minutes of Fred addressing voters directly via the camera, forces viewers to ask a few basic questions. One, is what he is saying true and is he saying it clearly enough so that it makes sense? Second, does what he’s saying reflect my values and does he have a record of sticking to those values? Third, does he make a plausible president?

STOP FRED!

This Fred thing has got to stop, its costing me money. The other guys I can ignore, but Fred keeps asking and I keep sending what I can.

Just think of it as temporarily HELPING me out, because I can’t contribute until Wednesday. Darn paycheck to paycheck living. ;)

Just passed 500 comments.

That’s the second Fred thread this week to do that.

Reach your own conclusions.

Thanks for that link.

I noticed that in May 2000, Fred voted with the dems on two judges and against the reps on a second amendment issue. Somebody more savvy than me will have to decide if there was a legitimate reason.

However, don’t you think it would be a good additional factor to take in?
MadisonConservative on December 31, 2007 at 11:08 AM

I do not see how it is relevant to the direction we go in wars that have our nations survival at risk.

We’ll have to agree to disagree.

There was no such suggestion last night. Marriage at most.

tickleddragon on December 31, 2007 at 11:29 AM

Okay, not to harsh everyone’s mellow, but in light of AP’s other thread (“Tammy Bruce” – see my comment there), it has to be asked:

If Fred implodes, who do the Fredfolken support?

And as I asked over there – can we morph the Fred-love into a positive force for another candidate and/or the general nominee?

Or should we all just write-in Fred to be ornery?

NIXON! Well it seems there is an old rivalry within this campaign. While Fred Thompson served as special council during the Watergate hearings Hillary Clinton was working to impeach Nixon. So it makes you wonder was tit for the tat the reason billy jeff was impeached. Check out this conserva babe Monica Crowley. Monica worked for Nixon at the end of his life and wrote two books about it. She is an ardent ANTI Hillary Clinton proponent. Good stuff.

tickleddragon on December 31, 2007 at 11:51 AM

Sorry to break up the party, but I see that there were comments made about me which predicted that I would jump in and ruin the positive vibes of the groovy love-in.

The fact is that if you go through the vault you will find that my comments about Fred are not particularly negative and I have said that his policy wonk ideas are fine. I am troubled by things like his support of McCain-Feingold, I prefer executives to legislators, and most of all he has not demonstrated that he is committed to winning.

People can natter on about Mitt’s hair and Mitt’s money all they want, but the fact remains that he is out there working to earn the votes of primary voters while Fred is just kind of loafing through this. There is only one person who can change that perception, and that is Fred himself.

You were not specific about errors I made concerning Fred’s immigration voting record. The data comes from here.

I agree that he voted repeatedly for bills and amendments proposed by Republican Abraham Spencer and against proposals that would have limited immigration proposed by Dems, but that was the problem of your party. They were so sold out to big business that they were selling out every day Americans for cheap labor. Fred was a big part of that problem while he was in the Senate. Like I said earlier, he was in a position to do something about immigration, but did nothing. Then he has the audacity to criticize executives like Rudy (without the authority to impact immigration) who were left holding the bag with 400,000 illegals in his city because the fed would not do its job by stopping them at the border or deporting them — even after being convicted of a crime. So, the Republican controlled congress has blood on its hands with regard to immigration. That is not a reason to forgive Fred and elect him POTUS, its a reason to take the proverbial whip to your congressman.

tommylotto on December 31, 2007 at 1:38 PM

I’ve noticed.

For what it’s worth, if I had to make a sizable wager, I’d still bet it’s Rudy’s to lose. When If Fred implodes, that’s where I’m headed.

I think Rudy may have played a pretty smart game of Rope-a-dope. When the rest of the pack is done playing whack-a-mole, Rudy may come out smelling like roses and blimp fuel.

Rudy/Thompson? Might be tough to beat.
