Video: Bhutto’s last moments

posted at 1:54 pm on December 28, 2007 by Bryan

We’re likely to see many videos purporting to be of Benazir Bhutto’s last moments, and many of them will be labeled “exclusive” as this one is. The likelihood that there may have been multiple personal camcorders on the scene means that we’ll probably see new footage of the rally trickle for months if not years to come. This footage was released by the Pakistani Interior Ministry earlier today.

This particular clip isn’t very dramatic but does show, as one CNN anchor notes, how vulnerable Bhutto was when she decided to pop up through the roof of the van she was in. She was exposed and, due to the crowd, unable to move. It was an ideal moment for the hit that killed her.

I don’t suppose there are any grassy knolls in that town.

I have no doubt that Bhutto knew that she’d be assassinated. She had more testicular fortitude than every political pig in perpetuity inside of the Beltway, put together.

For this alone, her loss was felt.

OhEssYouCowboys on December 28, 2007 at 2:02 PM

They have a lot of sandy knolls.

sounds fishy

In many ways, she was quite the socialist, but I give her kudos for “guts” – she was one gutsy lady to go back even though she knew she would be targeted.

The story is no bullet holes only slammed into the lever for the sun roof by the force of the blast.

The conflicting story talked about multiple shots with armor piercing rounds some to the neck and head.

From the video of her getting shoved into the ambulance (unless that was another female victim) the head was intact and not a bloody mess.

Take a double tap with AP munitions and you almost end up with only a stump.

The stories are way to far apart.

It’s a country and a culture full of grassy knolls. Expect many conspiracy theories to pop up. The US will probably be involved in most of them.

Bhutto’s top Aide isn’t buying the explanation. He blames it on the security lapse, allowing bullets to hit her.

That’s not what I heard from this video.

People are quipping about grassy knolls for a reason; this video recalls JFK riding exposed which, of course, facilitated his own assassination. I can think of few leaders who have been foolish enough to ride in this manner since then. Bhutto, being American educated, knew this history and was no fool. Therefore, one can assume that she wanted martyrdom.

The pope-mobile was invented for a reason.

Ralph Peters of the NY Post should be committed so that the world won’t have to suffer a driveling, pathetic fool.

Pakistan reminds me of many other 3rd world countries like Mexico where the ‘gov’t’ and the bad guys are symbiotic parasites. It’s good to see that the people of Pakistan are mourning her death fervently, even tho the rioting isn’t ‘appropriate’. However, it does send a message.

Exactly. (Forgot about JPII.)

The Interior Ministry explanation don’t square with eyewitness accounts, and these videos do nothing to help their contention. Getty Images photographer John Moore and other eyewitnesses were quite specific in their chronology that shots were fired, Bhutto went inside the vehicle, and then the blast occurred.

It’s damn hard for bomb’s blast wave to do anything when it hasn’t yet detonated.

If bullets did not fell Bhutto, and the blast occurred after she was back inside the vehicle, then it seems the only logical conclusion is that either Bhutto herself or her bodyguards tried to pull herself back into the armored car and she hit here head on accident, not as a result of the blast that had not yet occurred.

She could have also hit her head as a result of the force from being shot.

does any know which wouyld win between AP rounds and the pope-mobile?

urbancenturion on December 28, 2007 at 4:58 PM

does any know which wouyld[sic] win between AP rounds and the pope-mobile?

Irrelevant question, unless you specify a caliber and weapon, and know the armor rating of the vehicle in question.

Didn’t the guy just describe Pakistan as the land of liars? (and the Pure of course)

Only part of the rumourmill from me, but some Pakistani political analyst was insinuating last night that her PPP campaign was starting to slump in recent weeks and that they’d not get anywhere near a majority in the elections.

hmm.

Not sure if I’d go quite as far as ‘wanting martyrdom’, but..

Just sayin’.

Al Quaeda and Taliban didn’t do it … The sun roof did it.

This lady had a suicidal death wish, for sure. How do you say. She didn’t care about Democracy. If she had she’d be wear body armor and a War Helmet. In short, she didn’t give a BEEP about democracy or people that died in her parades. She was self absorbed and selfish.

I think she had her fill of life and want a quick death. Plus she said many irresponsible things.
