I saw the movie yesterday but I read the book too long ago to recall where the movie and book are at odds.

I was skeptical because I’d heard that Reaganites weren’t happy with it. It gives Wilson a bit too much credit at the expense of Reagan and Thatcher, and of course there are predictable jabs at right wingers and Christians, but that’s my only criticism. It was very well done, and if anything the movie provides an argument as to why we should not cut and run from Iraq.

Blaming the internet for the bitter partisanship on the Hill? Sheesh.

The movie, tv, and videogame elites HATE guns and war. Unless of course they can be used to make TONS of money, and sully America’s reputation overseas. In that case, the more blood the better! Torture- hel* yes! Hollywood LOVES torture- as long as it’s NOT used on terrorists!!

I think Hollywood should lead by example- strict gun rules! no torture! no offensive language or anti-religious imagery!

Dang it, the leftwing Hollywood and MSM elite loves to tell everyone ELSE how to behave. I say- YOU FIRST.

One damaging way in which the right-wing resembles too often the left-wing is the idea that we should know 100% of what the government is doing. Sometimes politicians need to negotiate in secret to get anything done. Of course, the people have a complete right to reject what’s done, as in the amnesty debate. And, of course, we need to figure out some way eliminate the earmarks and get a more rational budget process. But still congressmen need a way to back down from their more strident promises on both the left and the right.

And I wonder how much the easy information on the internet making nothing secret any more has created the bitter partisanship on the Hill now?

Oh, and be on the lookout for one coming called “Stoploss.” From the preview, it looks like a propaganda piece (considering I know guys who WERE stoplossed, plus the fact that it’s in the bloody contract that it might happen, the drama seems a little over the top). I actually spat in the theater I was so disgusted.

And then there was Senator Bloviate from Massachussetts who was in communication with the Soviets in the 80s trying to defeat Ronald Reagan. Why that fat tub of lard is still in office is beyond me.

Other Democrats, intent on blocking White House support for the Nicaraguan Contras, happily let Mr. Wilson have his way to bolster their own anticommunist credentials.

Heh, how first hand I know this part of the story. The biggest ruthless weasel was one Albert Gore, yes that prima donna, followed by Messrs Kerry and Kennedy, yes the two senators from that state.

But he believes that nothing like the Afghan operation could survive today’s poisonous Washington atmosphere.

Mine too while I was writing but he’s an independent and I doubt we’ll find out later that he was anywhere near as proactive as Charley Wilson (hope I’m wrong).
