Huck claims John Bolton as a foreign policy adviser. That’s news to John Bolton. Updated: “…no foreign policy credential…”

I didn’t want to write yet another blast at Huckabee, honest. Like the movie says, I keep trying to get out but he just keeps pulling me back in. Over and over and over again.

And again. Oops! Huck did it again…

A few weeks back, Mike Huckabee touted Frank Gaffney among his foreign policy advisers. Gaffney is a serious guy. He’d be an asset to any campaign. But Gaffney was eventually asked about this purported relationship to the Arkansan, and responded memorably:

GAFFNEY: I think that’s cockamamie.

More recently, Huckabee has also claimed that former Ambassador John Bolton is among his advisers. Bolton would also be a great asset to any candidate. Perhaps Huckabee was trying to earn my vote? Whatever the case is, like Gaffney, Bolton was asked about this and responds memorably.

In recent days, Mike Huckabee has tried to answer long-standing questions about who is on his foreign policy team. On Friday morning, he listed former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton as someone with whom he either has “spoken or will continue to speak.”

At a Thursday evening press conference, Huckabee said, “I’ve corresponded with John Bolton, who’s agreed to work with us on developing foreign policy.”

Bolton, however, has a different view. “I’d be happy to speak with Huckabee, but I haven’t spoken with him yet,” said Bolton, now a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank in Washington.

“I’m not an official or unofficial adviser to anyone,” said Bolton, who mentioned he’d had conversations with other Republican candidates but refused to name any names.

So now that we know who isn’t advising Huckabee on foreign policy — twice now — perhaps at some point we’ll learn who actually is advising him. I’m not sure that asking Huckabee who his advisers are is the best way to find out who his advisers are.

Update: Not much I can add to this. No siree.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a candidate have a worse day. Maybe now some Iowans will pull their heads out of the sand and start paying attention to the record of their boy Huckabee.

Does Huck just make all this stuff up? I can’t think he would intentionally lie at all, but is his staff just made up of a bunch of high school kids feeding him garbage? You’d think he’d have some decent fact checkers or at least have SOME sort of handle on WHO is advising him, HOW accurate the information he’s getting is, etc. Oh. He ought to have someone advise him on where not to aim a shotgun, too.

He’s almost as laughable as Ron Paul.

The sharp-tail, a polygamous breed, has a mating ritual that includes the male cooing in a low voice, establishing dancing grounds, or leks, on high terrain and jumping and cackling to impress the female. (The male also fights off other potential suitors by puffing his body up, lowering his head and strutting animatedly.)

Did I miss a memo with “Tickleddragon” in it today?

tickleddragon on December 28, 2007 at 7:53 PM

Any Huckabee supporters should be very concerned. Their candidate:

1. had an hour and a half long breakfast with Mr. Gaffney and claims this makes him a foreign policy adviser.

2. lists John Bolton as someone with whom he either has “spoken or will continue to speak” then characterizes it as “I’ve corresponded with John Bolton.” Translation: Huckabee campaign sent an email, and got a polite email back in response.

As far as conniving goes, this is so inept, juvenile, and comical, that this guy needs to be disqualified YESTERDAY.

I am sorry but I think Huckabee is a VERY dangerous man. He doesn’t seem to have a grasp of the GWOT, immigration or conservative principles when it comes to fiscal policy and stem cell reserch. This guy is the personification of a wolf in sheeps clothing. Anyone who cannot demonstrate basic honesty is guilty of all other sins as well.

Yeah get a load of that video in the update. Not only does a campaign adviser admit that Huckabee has no foreign policy credential, but Huckabee himself is caught on tape muttering that his “illegal Pakistani immigrant” numbers probably came from a CIA briefing or immigration numbers.

Why is it that so many candidates seem to forget about the Internet? I’m no Karl Rove, but I’ve got this to say to anyone who is running for political office:

Don’t lie. Don’t even exaggerate. People who don’t like you will find out about it and make sure everyone knows about it. They will spin you in the very worst light imaginable. You will look like a liar and a fool.

How awakening, at a crucial time, the Pakistan events of yesterday are. They focus the minds. Liberal chickens can not transform into hawks, having exposed their feathers lately for what they are. Ignoramuses like Huckabee, idealistic negotiators/blamers of America like Obama, and isolationists like R. Paul are on the defensive. Couldn’t be at a more critical time on our internal political calendar.

Chris Matthews, in his sexual political fantasy idealism said that this benefits Hillary. He couldn’t have been more wrong. Her timing is really bad. Real men are the treasures of the hour, this critical hour. Wake up America, and think. The consequences of how awake you are will be long-lasting and significant, in a very good or a very bad way.
