Fred reaches fundraising target for new ad? Update: Fred appeals to Fredheads to keep donating

posted at 1:19 pm on December 28, 2007 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | regular view

According to the campaign site, with less than five hours to go they’re still $65,000 short. No matter, says Politico — somehow they came up with the balance and will be on the air tomorrow in major cities across Iowa. Can the dream of third place at last be within reach? Don’t stop believing, my friends.

Update: Lame. Everyone knew what Huckabee meant, including the people pretending they didn’t.

Questioning Huckabee’s response to the death of Benazir Bhutto, Thompson, R-Tenn., told a Pella, Iowa, crowd, “I am not sure what Governor Huckabee meant when he said we needed to apologize for this assassination. I am more concerned about people around the world would think when they see a presidential candidate was apologizing for assassination of the former Prime Minister Bhutto.”

Update: Team Fred sends along this video and asks for redoubled efforts to reach the $250K target so that the new ad can run until the caucuses.

What do you think is important to NH GOP voters that Fred has not yet focused on?

Personally, I look for Fred to be the surprise winner in Iowa.

I zero in on Fred. Just read any Fred thread and you’ll see the exact same scenario play out every time. And usually, it’s you who starts it.

csdeven on December 28, 2007 at 4:19 PM

Really?

Yes, please send money to Fred because you dislike me. That says everything anyone needs to know about Fraud Thompson crazies. Don’t vet the guy on his history as a scumbag lawyer and lobbyist, just support him because little old csdeven tells the truth about him. Remember guys, I am a paid Fred operative that does this stuff just to get you to break open your wallets so Jeri can buy more dresses. Your personality disorders make it oh so easy to manipulate you.
Bwahahahaha!!!

Yeah, that’s really zeroing in on Fred there. Cut the crap. And now I wait for you to respond with “Waaaahhhh crybaby” and prove my point that when you get caught with a flaw in your argument, you become what you bemoan others being. Congratulations.

Allah, and HotAir are successful on the Right side of the aisle because they bring us the information that we wouldn’t normally get from the MSM. Like Rush, but just more of it. Blather, blather, blather…..

People like YOU start the name calling. They’ve been doing it since last summer when I first started exposing that sack of crap Fred for what he is. They acted like THEY were Fred and I personally insulted them. This is more lunacy from the Fredbots. They can’t separate themselves from the candidate. Just because you came in the middle of that doesn’t mean I started it. But I usually finish it, because just like your example, once a Fred loon exposes himself by attacking me for skewering Fred, I force them to defend their position. And when they cannot, they just shut up and wish they had never tangled with me. You are very close to that point. I figure another few days and you’ll realize that your credibility is in jeopardy because you have completely misread me. You’ll be doing all you can to gain a shred of credibility back. And that means staying out of my wheelhouse.

But I believe the reason Limrick, Entelechy, and tickledragon don’t respond to csdeven is because he is a caustic and nasty little jerk that cannot post here without being a jacka$$ in the process.
I would not want csdeven to be barred from HA because he serves as a prime example on how not to act.

leanright on December 28, 2007 at 4:12 PM

Why don’t you ask them? They don’t respond because they understand what I am doing. The only response to my comments are to, ignore me, agree with me or to take the road you just took which is to expose yourself as a ranting sissy-Mary who lets little old csdeven get under her skin.

The prime example of how not to act is what you just did. You and your ilk propagate the trend to turn all Fred threads into threads bashing little old me. Ask yourself why you chose to attack me instead of make some type of substantive comment about the thread topic. You wont because you’d be embarrassed. So now, you’ll either crawl back to your hole, or you’ll attack me further, again adding nothing to the thread topic. Perhaps you will learn from this lesson and actually ADD something to the discussion. We can only hope.

What IS with the South and conservatism?

Great question without a great answer.

The bad rap laid on Southerners, rednecks, Spam eating TT, Hicks, etc is the bar fight scene. You know that scene of ‘you talkin to me? *KAPOW*’ crud. Doesn’t happen that way in the south. The first weapon is ‘cornpone’. The ‘cornpone’ has a purpose, and that purpose is to avoid *KAPOW*, believe it or not. It helps keep fists unclenched and ears open.

Instead of jumping up, and grabbing some fella by the horns,
we make a word game out of it. Sorta a battle of wits instead of fists. Most ‘cornpone’ can be taken two ways…..as a finger in the face, or as a wink of the eye. It is a gentlemanly way of not being a gentleman.

So what does that have to do with ‘conservativism’? It is simple…..you have your space, I have mine. I won’t get into your business as long as you stay out of mine. You know, like forcing taxes, abortion, loose morals, down our throats. Libs do that stuff. Conservatives just shake their head and keep on doing things their own way. It is when someone(libs) try to stop em that is when *KAPOW* becomes a legitimate response.

Did I make any sense? Didn’t think so.

So much for Trinity river logic. You guys can now send me ‘packin’.

I’ve had sort of a Goldilocks-type experience with political blogs. I tried several for extended periods of time before settling on Hot Air as my favorite, where I spend the bulk of my time online. I would go to a handful of blogs each day, thinking “This one is too big; that one is too small; but Hot Air is juuust right!” And not just size-wise, either–in many ways, Hot Air (its writers, commenters, all of it) is just right for me. That’s why it really disappoints me so much that just one commenter can diminish my personal enjoyment of this site so much.

Here’s another analogy. Imagine that we have paid admission to see a movie that we’ve been looking forward to. We know the critics are panning it and that it’s been a disappointment at the box office, but we want to see it anyway. During the movie, some a$$hole at the front of the theater starts throwing popcorn at the screen and loudly jeering about how much he thinks it sucks and how stupid he thinks we all are for enjoying it. We tell him to leave and let us enjoy the show and each other’s company, but he just won’t stop. The show is ruined for everyone. Worst of all, the theater manager never does a thing about it, even when the a$$hole ruins several shows per week.

I’ll come back to the theater, because it’s still the best theater in town. I won’t leave a show being ruined by the a$$hole because I came to see the show and I think it’s the a$$hole who should leave, not me. But my enjoyment is significantly diminished whenever the management lets the a$$hole ruin a show the rest of us came to see and enjoy. I really, really resent this trend.

I wish there was an “ignore” option here. It would be nice to just simply not have to see some people’s posts. Might get a tad confusing from time to time, but I think I could live with it.

Either that, or put people’s names at the TOP of the post, rather than the bottom, that way when we see a post by someone we don’t like, we can skip it before we get to the content of the post, rather than reading all the way through a troll post, get upset, and THEN see the troll’s name at the bottom.

Not pointing that at anyone in particular, since one man’s Troll is another man’s Longfellow. Just saying it would be nice if we could more easily filter out the “white noise” in these threads.

Cheers!

I need to address this point. I wasn’t trying to say that AP would switch sides, I was using that as an example to point out that HotAir isn’t just a content site, it’s a Republican/conservative content site and that if that changed, HotAir wouldn’t be the same. I wasn’t trying to imply that AP would switch sides.

FloatingRock on December 28, 2007 at 4:52 PM

FloatingRock on December 28, 2007 at 4:22 PM

I tend to think that motives are as unique as fingerprints. Here at HA, we are all privileged to share as much or as little about our motives as we wish.

The most innocent/sincere thing we say or believe can get challenged, if not ridiculed, or outright disdained. However, if there weren’t tough challenges here, then we wouldn’t learn much. This is a place to influence and be influenced. It’s a circus, and it’s a classroom. If our beliefs are true, they’ll hold up under the assault. If someone with more knowledge can teach us differently, then our knowledge will grow.

AP makes all this happen. He may have a ruthless side, but all great teachers do.

Limerick…. thanks for the explanation. My question was more directed towards “why is the South the epitome of conservatism, and the Mountain West ignored?” I agree, the South is conservative…. but so is the cowboy, independant, self-reliant west motif. And we don’t usually have the southern racial baggage that comes along with “The south shall rise again!” thing.

I guess I’m just baffled as to why the Western strain of conservatism is pretty much ignored (aside from the “texas” types.. but they are more south than west in my opinion).

Cheney’s from Wyoming…. and most conservatives love the guy, if only because the leftists have heart failure when he speaks. Why not look for more of that?

I think the definitive defense has just been applied(and I reasonably think the same could be said about Bryan). Seriously people, lay off AP.

MadisonConservative on December 28, 2007 at 4:57 PM

AP’s boss is Michelle Malkin. You may not know what drives him, though it seems relatively obvious to me, but perhaps you could just trust her record enough not to allude to ulterior motives.

Spirit of 1776 on December 28, 2007 at 4:54 PM

I’ll agree not to allude to ulterior motives if AllahPundit will return the favor, that’s my point. Thanks for helping me make it.

FloatingRock on December 28, 2007 at 4:57 PM

I appreciate the effort, but the problem I see is that I find myself not only skipping CSD’s comments but yours as well. Step back into the light, MadisonConservative. :)

FloatingRock on December 28, 2007 at 4:55 PM

…but it burns! IT BURRRRNS!

MadisonConservative on December 28, 2007 at 4:58 PM

$7K to go! This was a thread about Fred raising money for an IA ad wasn’t it? I heard the kids fighting in the corner, though, and I wish they would take it outside.

AZCON on December 28, 2007 at 4:59 PM

I’m gonna time it so my contribution is the one that puts him over the top.

Welcome back, Mad.

Oh, and yes, you do need to get back to that blogsite. tsk tsk, October?

AZCON on December 28, 2007 at 4:59 PM

Dude. It is totally under control now. ;)

tickleddragon on December 28, 2007 at 5:00 PM

it becomes clear to me that while AP may not like any of the candidates, the HotAir members he has the most disdain for support Fred and Ron Paul. He’s said as much.

FloatingRock on December 28, 2007 at 4:22 PM

Maybe that is because they are both a bunch of delusional whackadoos. The paulians think Paul is the only man capable of saving America with his crazy ideas and insane foreign policy so they spam on-line polls and give all their lunch money and allowances to him. The Fredbots are just as bad. They think Fred is the only true conservative and the only one who can save conservatism. Even though he is pro-choice, and he is currently third in Iowa, fifth nationally, and sixth behind Paul in New Hampshire. If he is conservatism’s savior, its deader than Bhutto!!

Texan’s, mostly, do consider themselves Southerners and not Westerners. Now I could start a row at the local bar over that statement but basically I believe it to be true. I’m not educated enough to detail it out in a way that some here would like. There is one thing that is set in stone in the South, and this is probably the core of the ‘conservative’ notion, and that is States Rights. As a Southerner I know that phrase gets all twisted up with the slavery issue, but that is the truth. States Rights is a don’t tread on me argument and that is why the South stays conservative(IMO).

Just who do you think HA’s readership is? Kindergarteners?

tickleddragon on December 28, 2007 at 4:50 PM

I don’t understand your question…. Why would I think HA’s readership are kindergarteners?

the South is conservative…. but so is the cowboy, independant, self-reliant west motif.

Brokeback Mountain killed that…

you’re not worth a damn keystroke more.

MadisonConservative on December 28, 2007 at 4:35 PM

There now. Don’t you feel better? The embarrassment I mentioned will set in once you realize that you were the one that started it and I was only responding to your original insults. But don’t fret it. I wont rub it in. As a matter of fact, we will probably have a tolerable discussion occasionally.

Limerick on December 28, 2007 at 5:02 PM

Lim. Dude. We’re TEXANS. The west and south can ride our coattails if they make nice and worship our football teams.

Limerick on December 28, 2007 at 5:02 PM

Wrong. Texans are neither. They are their own geopolitical and mental division of the country. That is becoming less so as the Lone Star State attracts population from the rest of the country, but a true Texan is in a class of his own — for better and/or worse.

tommylotto on December 28, 2007 at 5:15 PM

$2 K to go, and where the hell is that CS/TL ignore buton!!!

AZCON on December 28, 2007 at 5:15 PM

Indeed it is.

Another similarity between the Fredheads and Paulnuts: Both are so enamored of their guys’ respective policies that they overlook the fact that they’re weak candidates.

Allahpundit on December 28, 2007 at 1:28 PM

I am saving tidbits like this to remind you of your folly later.

But we shall see wont we?

TheSitRep on December 28, 2007 at 5:16 PM

$2K to go….

Hell, it’s over folks. Why bother with the countdown? I’m guessing it’ll get close to or over $300K

Kokonut on December 28, 2007 at 5:16 PM

Brokeback Mountain killed that…

tommylotto on December 28, 2007 at 5:11 PM

Nope….ski resorts and the ’smooth soled boot’ hiking trail mentality killed it. Cheap land, pretty vistas, go back to the city when you get bored killed it. The Indian is Pan killed it. People who think mother nature is an amusement park killed it.

Limerick on December 28, 2007 at 5:17 PM

Dude. We’re TEXANS. The west and south can ride our coattails if they make nice and worship our football teams.

Texans are just people who werent tough enough to make it in TN.

amish on December 28, 2007 at 5:18 PM

Yep, just came in to say that it looks like he hits his goal…question though, when he says 6PM, does he mean 6PM east or 6PM in Iowa?

Bad Candy on December 28, 2007 at 5:18 PM

I really, really resent this trend.

aero on December 28, 2007 at 4:41 PM

Well then it’s a good thing that you actually have to read AND then CHOOSE to be upset by a single random person on HA. I know I don’t miss a thing when I ignore certain persons diatribes. It’s a thing of beauty.
