If you liked the ‘57 edition, and many of you did, you’ll … be disappointed by this one, frankly. Lots of well-meaning boilerplate about family and the less privileged, perhaps necessarily: After 55 years of Christmas messages, you’re bound to run out of things to say.
But stick with it. The last two minutes or so turn meaningful. Click the image to watch.

The queen rules.

abolish them, turn them out of their palaces and sell their riches and lock up the ones who disobey. No man shall rule by virtue of his birth.

IMO, the family isn’t any more screwed up than the rest of us. They just get more attention because they’re royalty and have tons of money. Still, there is something to be said for civility and good manners…the world lacks much of both these days.
The hippies rebelled against their parents generation because they thought it too “uptight” in some areas it may have been true, but now things have just degenerated to something lower than low.
I’m only 40 and I shake my head at some of the things I see. Where is the civility? For crying out loud, I still call my parents friends “mr” or “mrs”. I wouldn’t dream about not doing that.

As much as I disdain royalty, I like that ol’ bird.
It is obvious that Harry is Williams ½ brother.
TheSitRep on December 26, 2007 at 10:41 AM
I agree and so does England.
“Parliament… has… the right to make or unmake any law whatever; and further, that no person or body is recognised by the law of England as having a right to override or set aside the legislation of Parliament.”

Bah! A lot of hot air. Take yer’ country back you old bag!
thareb on December 26, 2007 at 11:03 AM
Always classy. And THAT will remain constant.

“Royalty is an hereditary disorder“- G.B. Shaw.

In 1957 she was one nervous royal. In 2007 she is rather at home in front of the camera.
A class act, then and now.
TwinkietheKid on December 26, 2007 at 11:31 AM
Kind, gentle words from a woman that has a son she seems to think is not capable of reigning, a set of dysfunctional daughter-in-laws, with one becoming an icon for those wishing to completely lower the bar in their life. Grandsons that are incompetent, smug, nasty twits and a country that is being overrun by Islam at a rapid rate seems to be what she is leaving behind.
The heritage and culture of England will be an anachronism, while it’s destiny will be lived out by the rebels of the US and the convicts Downunder. There is so much that is good of what we have inherited by the Brits that founded this country, and thank goodness they successfully severed the ties to a kingdom that is sinking under its own bad judgment and political correctness.

I quite liked it. The whole thing, actually.

A people that have degenerated to the point that they would even consider electing Hillary Clinton to the office of President has little room to make negative judgment concerning the leadership of Great Britain.
Franklin Hill on December 26, 2007 at 11:58 AM
And come to think of it… the same goes for Huckabee.

We’re still not amused
Kini on December 26, 2007 at 12:56 PM
Really? Tell that to our career politicians and their second and third generation offspring that slide right into politics. Algore? The Kennedy clan? The Bushes? We have plenty of dynastic pols in this country that keep power through family ties and loads of cash. The Queen doesn’t make laws, she brings in hella tourist dollars.
The Queen is a class act during a time where class is sorely missing.

Excuse me for saying: British accents are HOT!
Ali-Bubba on December 26, 2007 at 2:00 PM
I will admit she was pretty easy on the eyes in 57′
thareb on December 26, 2007 at 2:29 PM
I was thinking the same thing.
Personally, I’d rather inherit an unpleasant monarch than see moonbat pols and their family members elected–again and again and again . . . (the Kennedys, anyone?)

I think that was the best speech I’ve heard from
the Queen, and as far as leaders, and the royality,
when she talked about the Military, compared with
others, she means it.She lived through the Blitz.
canopfor on December 26, 2007 at 7:59 PM
Actually during the Blitz the late Queen Mum was asked if she intended to take the then teenage Princess to a safer spot in Britain for their safety.
She responded” The children won’t leave if I won’t leave. I won’t leave if the King won’t leave…and the King won’t leave.”
Elizabeth also served in the British version of the WAAC’s.
Both of them-class acts.
annoyinglittletwerp on December 26, 2007 at 9:33 PM
Complain about the British monarchy all you want. In this country we try to make royalty out of the poor excuses for celebrities from Hollywood or NYC. Paris Hilton? The Ms Spears? Michael Jackson?
Sorry. If you have to have phony royalty to first build up and then destroy, only to do it over and over again, count me out.
I respect the Queen. She’s not my queen, but she is first class all the way, in spite of her dysfunctional family. Is hers any more dysfunctional than many ordinary families?
Qzsusy on December 26, 2007 at 10:31 PM
She’s A-OK in my book…

As a constitutionalist, the thought of kings and queens are like fingernails down a chalkboard. Seeing all those pompous hacks hobnobbing at extravagent tea parties on the backs of the “commoners” and stuffing their fat faces and fat wallets at the low life taxpayer expense makes me sick. I feel bad for the masses who toil so that the self appointed few can play polo chase the wives / husbands of the other privilege ones in their social circles. Monarchy is a slap in the face to everything I, my brothers, my uncles, my parent and my grandparents spilled blood for.
That said, I’d a tapped that in ‘57.
Alden Pyle on December 27, 2007 at 8:26 AM
Fixed that for you.
Occasus on December 28, 2007 at 12:58 AM
That was interesting, and classy, and she mentioned Jesus by name…I liked it.

God Bless the Queen, she’s a very fine lady.
