NFL week 16 open thread
posted at 12:30 pm on December 23, 2007 by Bryan
Here’s the schedule. With Dallas hanging on to beat Carolina last night, all eyes will be on Green Bay to keep pace in the NFC home field advantage race. The Packers are in Chicago against the Bears. You’d think the 12-2 Packers could handle the 5-9 Bears easily, but they are division rivals and the Bears did hand the Packers one of their two losses in week 5 in Green Bay. So it could be interesting. The Patriots will try to stay perfect against the Dolphins who are on their longest winning streak of the year (yeah, that’s sarcasm). Taking a look at the standings and the playoff picture, the four NFC division champs are locked in and 3 of the AFC’s are as well. As for the rest, on the NFC side, the Giants, Vikings, Saints and Skins are all fighting for playoff spots and the Vikings and Skins collide in the night game tonight. On the AFC side, the Steelers, Jaguars, Browns and Titans are still in contention. So it’s a big week with the season on the line for lots of teams.

Im new to his fantasy football thing, anyone know how i can find out who Denver is starting or going to use the most at RB monday? Their website, nor any queries in yahoo and google wont reveal any articles.
El Guapo on December 23, 2007 at 12:41 PM
Penultimate?
Hey, that’s the same word I used!
Great minds and all that good stuff.
Go NYG!

Wonder who will be the first team to stop the Miami touchdown machine.

Denver has a RB?

Thanks for having hope in my Bears, Bryan.
As a lifelong Chicago sportsfan, I’m a BIT less optimistic.
Packers 34 – Bears 13

If you’re going to pick a Bronco running back, you might take a look at Selvin Young. He is teh awesome, and the Donkeys are just playing out the season. Young could have monster games to finish out the season.
Don’t plan on seeing big numbers from Travis Henry.
I could be wrong, but that’s how I would play.
wccawa on December 23, 2007 at 1:24 PM
Oh my. NYG down 14-0 already.
I sense impending doom.
JammieWearingFool on December 23, 2007 at 1:25 PM
Brrrrr. Looking a little nippy at Soldier Field. GO PACK! GO OVERTIME!
christophercube on December 23, 2007 at 1:25 PM
Looks like Henry and Young are your best bets, though I’m not sure either are really teh awesome.
Hollowpoint on December 23, 2007 at 1:28 PM
I believe that if Seattle wins today against the Ravens, Seattle will lock up the third seed. If GB loses today or next week and Seattle wins the wild card game, look for a Seattle/GB playoff rematch at Lambeau Field. The last time was Hasselbeck’s “we want the ball cuz we’re going to score” statement during the OT coin toss. Of course he threw a pick-6 and GB won the game. Time to atone for past sins.
It is damp, dank, and cold in Seattle this morning. Game time forecast is cloudy with rain arriving in the 3rd quarter. After their stinker last week, the Seahawks need to show a little something and put this game away early. If anyone is watching, I’ll be sitting in the lower right corner of the Hawks Nest, 4th row. Go Seahawks!
Mallard T. Drake on December 23, 2007 at 1:31 PM
As a Broncos fan, I concede that my team sucks. I mean really, really sucks.
But I stick with my assessment of Young. When he gets carries, he blows people away. Very Barry Sanderesque. A walking highlight reel waiting to happen. The kid has a bright future ahead of him, methinks, and could show a lot of people some stuff on MNF.
If I had to pick a Bronco running back to finish out my roster, he’d be the no-brainer.
wccawa on December 23, 2007 at 1:32 PM
Am I the only Dallas fan having nightmares about Dallas seeing Seattle in the playoffs?
I don’t want the Seahawks anywhere near Texas Stadium.
Especially if Jessica is there.
Professor Blather on December 23, 2007 at 1:35 PM
It would be nice if Muhamed could catch the balls that hit him in the chest. It’s a little cold in Chicago but that was catchable.
alilianstrom on December 23, 2007 at 1:44 PM
Maybe, but 46 yards per game and only 1 TD for the season? Not someone who’s putting up big numbers for fantasy football.
I actually do have him on my fantasy team; I think I’ve started him once or twice due to bye weeks or injuries, but otherwise I’d forgotten he was even on my roster because it’s been so long since I’ve actually started him.

I know some players have funny superstitions(lucky jock strap type thing)but…
JessicaS. or Carrie Underwood(Seattle, lastYear) couldn’t really be factors, could they(?), that was just coincidences, right(?), that couldn’t really effect outcome… could it? uh,NAAAAAAAA… well, (hmmm)could it?
christophercube on December 23, 2007 at 2:06 PM
Shocka! Giants rally to tie it at 14-14.
JammieWearingFool on December 23, 2007 at 2:10 PM
Jacksonville way ahead of Oakland at the end of the half — 28 to 3 with a minute to go in the half. The way Oakland is melting down, I don’t see them recovering in the second half.
Anton on December 23, 2007 at 2:34 PM
D*mn, Favre is about to move into all-time 1st place… in the interception race.
The weather effected Bear fans have an odd seating arrangement, the windy side of the stadium is almost vacant.
christophercube on December 23, 2007 at 2:41 PM
Yeah – but as a die hard Bears fan he’s still Brett Favre. I’d be happier if it were 42-7
alilianstrom on December 23, 2007 at 2:48 PM
As a live long Packer fan, what we need to do now is sit Favre. He always has a couple games like this a year and he doesn’t get better as the game goes on all he does is get more reckless. Don’t rick him hurting himself for no reason, put in Rogers, see what he can do.
lowandslow on December 23, 2007 at 2:52 PM
I’d be happier if it were 42-7…

As a True Bear fan, I have always maintained that I could live through a 2 – 14 year, as long as the only two victories are both over Green Bay.
Nothing would give me greater joy than for this 28 – 7 4th quarter lead to hold up and somehow ruin Favre’s year, and the hated Packers.
Jaibones on December 23, 2007 at 3:22 PM
Yes you are. But you’re losing home field advantage and Brett is 0-9 in Dallas…

Thanks, Cheese-heads.
Welcome to Irving, Texas, NFC-town USA.

cowgirls need to go all the way to super bowl so they can get spanked again by the Patriots.

Eff the Pack. 35 – 7. Urlacher is Christ-like. It’s 16 degrees in Chicago, the wind is blowing 25 miles and hour, the wind chill is -12, it’s snowing, and the Bears are killing the stinking Packers.
Take me now, Lord.
(With all due respect to MadisonConservative, for whom I have the higest regard.)

I am still hurting because things are so bad in Rams Country that my man Torry Holt, a model citizen, had to cuss out the head coach on national tv a few nights ago.
Mike D. on December 23, 2007 at 3:44 PM
Prediction: the cheatin’ Pats go 16-0 (with a big asterisk!)… but they never get a chance to lose to the NFC dominating Cowboys because they get beat in the divisional game. Cowboys-Colts Superbowl.
Then Jessica Simpson and Carrie Underwood show up together at the big game and Romo has a meltdown, loses the Superbowl, but goes home with both babes and remains my hero.
Professor Blather on December 23, 2007 at 3:45 PM
I still think Miami beats the Pats today.
As for my Bears – woooohoooo!

Bucs finally ran a kickoff back for a touchdown last week. Everything else is secondary.
Bucs rule!

Well, I did say that the Bears-Packers game might be interesting.

The Hindenburg disaster was interesting too…

Brett Favre has never won in Dallas, lets keep the tradition going. :)

Yikes! Were these people home sick when they covered “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life” in Bible class? Over the top doesn’t even come close to describing that………….And a Merry Christmas to you too.
Mallard T. Drake on December 23, 2007 at 10:19 PM
Kind of quiet here tonight.
The Seahawks had the exact kind of game they needed today and easily handled the Ravens 27-6. It was nasty out there. Two different fronts came through making sitting in the rain a miserable experience. It was nice that the Hawks ran the score up early. Lots of people were gone 1/2 through the 4th quarter.
The Hawks had over 160 yards rushing (season high) against the 3rd best defense against the run. Hasselbeck is in 2005 form. The receivers are holding onto the balls and making good catches. The only thing holding the Seahawks back from here on out is their offensive line. They played well today and opened some holes. Shaun A. had three runs over 15 yards and was looking more like 2005 Shaun than anytime this season.
Seahawks are the number 3 seed in the NFC. If they make it through the wild card they will be on their way to GB for the playoff rematch. Hasselbeck and Favre. That has the makings of a great game.
Mallard T. Drake on December 23, 2007 at 10:26 PM
Anyone else totally bummed that next weeks showdown between the Pats and the Giants is only on the NFL network? That’s stupid.
Anyone know how to get a feed over the internet or I am resigned to finding a sports bar with a NFL network hook up?
Mallard T. Drake on December 23, 2007 at 10:28 PM
Oh noes, I must watch football in a bar???
I sometimes knock the cable out just to have that excuse.
The Prof wins the thread for his cowboys superbowl prediction! Though am I the only one that thinks Romo is insanely homely?
libertarianuberalles on December 24, 2007 at 2:40 AM
Sorry I wasn’t here for Bryan and others to gloat at but I had good reason.
Yes, my Pack took it on the chin today, so no matter what happens, there will always be a black cloud over this season with the lowly Bears sweeping us.
I look at it this way, Favre is due in Dallas, if the Cowpies last that long.
oakpack on December 24, 2007 at 3:25 AM
I’m … trying to take this as some sort of compliment.
