Open thread: Cowboys at Panthers
posted at 8:36 pm on December 22, 2007 by Bryan
Lots of side stories in this one. Star QB coming off a horrible game, and he has an injured thumb. If you can believe the press, locker room intrigue. Unhappy TO. Replacement center. No Roy Williams. And on the Panthers side, an undrafted rookie QB who won his first start last week against the Seahawks.
If you don’t get NFL Network, you can watch online here.

It wasn’t pretty but we’ll take it. It was fun ladies and gentlemen!

I find that there are generally more loser Cowboy haters out there.
Sound like anyone you know?

“Back Off?” “Buddy” what is with you hypersensitive Cowboy fans???? I lived in Texas, I know the drill and I know alot of true Cowboy fans. Fine, you are a lifer too. I asked a simple question. Neither of you have denied that the fake bandwagon is large for the Cowboys.
Jeeze, makes me hate the damn Cowboys more…
Dirthead on December 22, 2007 at 11:15 PM
er…ref SouthernPride…that should be Ms.Buddy to you sir.

G’nite all. See ya in Washington!

Dirtyhead…
Your “bandwagon” fans exists for most other teams in the NFL. The Cowboys have some, but it don’t pertain to most.
We’ve been disappointed at times, but we stay true. No doubt.
Look at the stats, every decade, the Cowboys have have an All-Star Super Bowl team. Takes time to build and most of us understand that.
SouthernPride on December 22, 2007 at 11:20 PM
Sorry for my lash out Dirt,
I am a little sensitive about the boys sometimes
conservnut on December 22, 2007 at 11:21 PM
Oops, missed the wonderful exchange about Mrs. Buddy. No prob. and no hard feelings. Thanks guys.
Trust me to know as much about football as you dudes do.
Bring it back next week Dirthead~

True enough. But The Boys and Steeler have more than their share of bandwagoners. I don’t think that is even in question… ALL I asked was who had more in the opinion of the group. It strikes me as odd that some cowboy fans (lifers though they may be) took offense. Like I said, sounds like a little insecurity to me.
Dirthead on December 22, 2007 at 11:23 PM
Respect ‘ya Southern. For the record, I hate the Steelers much more….
Dirthead on December 22, 2007 at 11:24 PM
There may be a few “fairweather” fans out there. But think about it, look at the fans in the stadium tonight. And any other stadium. Cowboy fans in another stadium in Cowboy jerseys cheering the boys.
That ain’t bandwagon fans. Cowboys have fans everywhere.
Just a fact, they always have.
conservnut on December 22, 2007 at 11:29 PM
Uhh…thanks Dirt.
Well, I don’t like the Steelers either, for obvious reasons (think 1970′s Super Bowls!).
Yep, little ol’ me, teenage gal that I was, I still hate them for Bradshaw, Greene, Swann, Lambert and others. Alas, life goes on and we revenged them in the 90′s.
Good night all.

You had to ask if anyone wanted this thread?
Have you not noticed that most comments come when you do a Cowboys “Open Thread”.
Case closed and THANK YOU!

No offense … my aptly named new jumping-on-the-anti-bandwagon-while-mocking-the-bandwagon friend …. uh, Dirthead is it?
Well .. Dirthead …. let me say it again, just for fun … well, Dirthead: I almost agree with your earlier post.
Personally, I’ve been a Cowboys fan since circa 1973. My second earliest memory (the first was seeing one of my Dad’s Playboy’s) was watching my Dad (the same dirty old creep) cheering the Cowboys.
We shopped at Roger Staubach’s grocery store in Richardson. Seriously.
The very first bet I ever placed in my life was in the 78/79 (I’m guessing, but I’m close) Cowboys/Broncos (I mean, Doomsday Defense versus the Orange Crush) Superbowl.
And some punk out there still owes me an ice cream sandwich. Compounded with interest, I think I’m owed roughly 4 million dollars.
The only time I wasn’t a Cowboys fan was 1989 (again, off the top of my head, maybe off by a year), when they fired Tom Landry, hired Jimmy Johnson, Jerry Jones seized power … and they went 1-15.
I was probably a Steelers fan that year. Well, I was busy in Marine Corps boot camp, but I remember being pleased that the Cowboys sucked. Because Landry was GOD. (Again, if I’m off by a year or two, please bite me. No. Lower).
What’s my point? My point is, well, suck my balls. Yes, I get defensive.
Why? Not because you’re wrong. You’re not wrong. The Cowboys are the Yankees of football. They are the America of football. The country, not the band.
In 1945, America had a lot of fair weather, bandwagon fans, too.
In the early-to-mid 90s of Aikman-Emmit-Irvin, so did the Cowboys.
And this year … just like you say … sure enough – plenty of bandwagon fans.
And I welcome every last one of them bastards.
But what YOU are missing – and what annoys me to no end – are the freakin’ bandwagon HATERS.
When the Cowboys get good … and it happens often … the Cowboys haters come out of the woodwork.
They are – and yeah, I mean every one of you – the Frances of Football. As in France, the country. The place with lots of wine and no deodorant.
The haters appear from nowhere. They leap on that bandwagon, just like the Yankees haters.
Just like the America haters. Just like France. Just like Maureen Down and the freakin’ New York Times.
So I’ll tell you what, pardner: when you diss my beloved America’s team, when you bring up those predictable but always welcome fair weather, bandwagon fans … I’ll raise you a million Cowboys haters who just have to whine and moan and piss because the cream of the crop has risen to the top once again.
Any questions?

If I looked like that, I’d put the same clothes on, pose the same way, and smile!
Alas, 45 years, Captain Morgan, & Life have taken their toll.
You go girl….tame the ROMeO! Keep up the Patriotism!
SouthernPride on December 23, 2007 at 12:49 AM
Pro. Blather, you’re the best!
I have 2 autographed pics. of Roger Staubach. One was written to me (with my name), the other was to my late grandfather. My granny gave that pic. to me.
Years later, I was able to personally meet Staubach at a restaurant in Marble Falls, Tx. I let him finish his dinner and stand up to leave before I “encountered” him. He was the nicest guy!
Staubach wasn’t sexy. Aikman was. Romo is. It don’t matter. If you are the QB of the Dallas Cowboys, you are a TARGET for life!
SouthernPride on December 23, 2007 at 1:00 AM
Sorry dude, nice rant but the Cowboys are still evil. You might as well paint blue stars on Storm Trooper helmets and screw ‘em on. I’m a Redskins fan, so I gotta say that, just like I’ll dig up games from days gone by where the Cowboys embarrassed themselves. You know, like the 1991 season where the Cowboys beat the Skins *once* yet Cowboys fans dredge that game up every time the Skins beat them. Wait till we beat Dallas next week. That will be one of the dorky consolation mantras pouring out of the mouths of Cowboy fans everywhere.
I’ll give you this, though – The Redskins and Cowboys always show up to play each other. It’ll be a good game, guaranteed.
fiatboomer on December 23, 2007 at 1:09 AM
I’ve always thought it rather dumb to hate a pro-team of any sort that has no idea who you are and never will.. but live and let live. No biggie.

The only thing more annoying than a Bears fan is a Vikings fan.
The only thing more annoying than a Vikings fan is a Cowboys fan.
Bronco fans are in a category of their own. How many Bronco fans does it take to change a light bulb? Three. One to change the bulb and the other two to talk about how good the old one was.
GO PACK GO
Sammy316 on December 23, 2007 at 2:25 AM
My God you described me! lol
Dirthead,
Many of us lifelong fans have been accused on numerous occasions of being bandwagoners just because we root for the Cowboys. As soon as they get good and someone learns I’m a fan, I hear things like, “Oh you jumped on the wagon too, huh?”. It gets a little old. I understand you weren’t making any accusations, but I think you can understand the reactions.
Kowboy on December 23, 2007 at 9:09 AM
Ha!
The thing that bugs me ’bout Cowboy fans is their sense of “entitlement”.
There is no doubt that the “boys” have fielded some amazing teams over the years. I’ll give ‘em that.
But still seems to me that the fans sometimes think that other teams should just roll over, play dead, and give the game to the Cowboys.
Now, before I get jumped on, let me say the only thing “personal” about that statement is my opinion.
Now, that being said, if the boys make the Super Bowl against the Pats, I WILL be pulling for the ‘boys.

And the only thing more annoying than a Cowboys fan is a cheese-hat wearing Packers fan.
Have you guys elected Farve for governor yet, or is he just going straight to sainthood instead?
