Video: Condi strikes back at Huckabee’s “bunker mentality” line

SecState Condi Rice pretty much called Mike Huckabee crazy today for saying in a speech before the Center for Strategic International Studies and in an article in Foreign Affairs that the Bush administration has an “arrogant bunker mentality.” Huck’s response: Who, me? I may not have even written the line that has you so upset.

Yeah. It’s a response right out of the “Are you kidding me? No, seriously. Are you kidding me? That’s your answer?” files.

He does take the credit/blame for signing off on and delivering the line (twice), but the “I’m not sure I wrote it” schtick is so “yeah, but I didn’t inhale” that it beggars belief.

There’s a word that describes this kind of hair-splitting/word parsing/stupefyingly ridiculous response: Clintonian.

What are Christian homeschool mothers thinking?

Theworldisnotenough on December 21, 2007 at 6:42 PM

Way to go Condi!

KBird on December 21, 2007 at 6:43 PM

Huck plays the base guitar and is an armchair quarterback.

TheSitRep on December 21, 2007 at 6:44 PM

Huckaschmuck! Huckaschmuck! Huckaschmuck!

And still, no fire has rained down upon me from Heaven, so he’s not likely the Anoited One that he seems to think he is.

Frozen Tex on December 21, 2007 at 6:45 PM

Doesn’t matter if you wrote it, Huck. You approved your message.

Vizzini on December 21, 2007 at 6:47 PM

Further proof that Huckster is a sockpuppet for whichever ‘adviser’ he spoke to last.

Nessuno on December 21, 2007 at 6:48 PM

He didn’t write his own article, eh?

Condi: “One would only have to be…not observing the facts”=”One would have to have one’s head up one’s a**”

As, yes, Governor, “your” whack article was read.

baldilocks on December 21, 2007 at 6:48 PM

Huck-a-very-lie, tastes like crow.

right2bright on December 21, 2007 at 6:49 PM

Huckabus? Did he say Huckabus?

baldilocks on December 21, 2007 at 6:50 PM

What a weak man, obviously he has a lack of faith and commitment.
And Mitt is right, calling out the president is no laughing matter…my God, what are his supporters thinking.

right2bright on December 21, 2007 at 6:57 PM

When Condi makes you look silly, then well… you know the rest.

Spirit of 1776 on December 21, 2007 at 7:00 PM

Looks like the ol huckster is having a bad day.

That in of itself makes mine so much better!

conservnut on December 21, 2007 at 7:05 PM

If only this administration woulld respond when the Democrats lie about them… they’re all silent then.

VinceP1974 on December 21, 2007 at 7:17 PM

Maybe I’m a bit slow on the take but I finally realize who Huckabee reminds me of….

President Logan from 24. Just kind of….Eh…
There’s nothing wrong with the “nice guy” approach but I don’t want a Jimmy Carter in the White House again.

HarryStar on December 21, 2007 at 7:23 PM

Hey, it may be hard to find anyone more disappointed in Condi Rice than I am. But Huckabee’s “bunker mentality” line makes me Huckchuck.

petefrt on December 21, 2007 at 7:28 PM

Hucka-who?

flipflop on December 21, 2007 at 7:29 PM

The nominating conventions, both Democrat and Republican are going to be as interesting as the ‘68 Democrat convention in Chicago.

With a little bit of luck, Code Pink will be inside the convention hall, and as disruptive while the rest of the Clinton mob attempts to hijack the convention.

Some of my best friends are evangelical Christians and homeschoolers and I don’t see support for Huckabee among them. Who are these people I keep hearing about, because I don’t see the media stereotype playing out in reality (of course, things are different out here in California).

Nosferightu on December 21, 2007 at 7:30 PM

On ABC World News Tonight did a one sentence highlight of Condi’s remark then gave Huckabee a 5 minute spot. Oh, and according to ABC there are two, and only two, choices for Republicans in Iowa…..Huck and Mitt. Fred must be just visiting the Pancake House.

Limerick on December 21, 2007 at 7:30 PM

Maybe he meant Archie bunker mentality ?

William Amos on December 21, 2007 at 7:32 PM

Am I the only one who noticed it?
That almost subliminal “flash” of Romney’s face at the end of that clip?

…waiting for Fred.

Same here in Texas, I’ve yet to meet a huck supporter. I guess we just don’t hang out in the same places. Me and my family and friends are still goin with Rudy, even though by some accounts around here he’s not even in the race anymore.

Even though I’m Christian, Huckabee’s in your face religion, and especially his signing of that absurd statement regarding submissive women while in his capacity as Governor, pretty much seals his fate with me. Like many have said, we’re voting for president, not pope and I don’t really want a holier than thou, puritanical pulpit preacher as POTUS, assuming he could ever win anyways, which he couldn’t

MrC_5150 on December 21, 2007 at 8:10 PM

WT..? Try again.

I don’t have any respect for either one of them. I want to see the Huckster out of the race and Condoleezza to resign after the New Year.

MrC_5150 on December 21, 2007 at 8:12 PM

If Bush has a go-it-alone “bunker” mentality, why did dozens of nations join us invading Iraq & Afghanistan? Why are nations such as France, Germany, & S. Korea electing pro-Bush leaders?

jgapinoy on December 21, 2007 at 8:23 PM

Huck’s response: Who, me? I may not have even written the line that has you so upset.

Next, if this line works, we’ll hear from Mr. Romney “I may not have written the line I delivered… but I sure approved of it at the time. Upon further consideration…”

Entelechy on December 21, 2007 at 9:09 PM

The ‘arrogant bunker mentality’ description really seems like an attack from the left. Huckabee needs to realize there are still some Bush policies supported by alot of voters. For instance I like Bush better than Huckabee!

sonnyspats1 on December 21, 2007 at 9:23 PM

So, now he’s implying he didn’t even write his poorly crafted speech and article on foreign policy? That doesn’t really help with his non-cred in that department. And, by the way, I thought he “didn’t have speechwriters”. Good lord.

CP on December 21, 2007 at 10:31 PM

“I hope she read the article because I am brilliant and correct and the world will be a better place the moment I am president because they will know me by my love.”

Huck

peacenprosperity on December 21, 2007 at 10:55 PM

The guy is more and more like carter every day. Not the running for president carter, the booted out of office bitter, delusional carter.

peacenprosperity on December 21, 2007 at 10:57 PM

Geezus H. Huckabee is a whacko. He’s so smart he’s stupid.

Well.. I forget who the H person is but thats not a Woman you want to mess with.

amend2 on December 22, 2007 at 12:26 AM

Way to go Condi!

Why the celebration? All she said was that American policy was not pursuing a go-it-alone foreign policy. What that means in practical terms is that she’s co-operating with EU delusions about a rational Iran. It seems to me that Ahmadinejad has outwitted them all by indicating that Iranian nuclear status is an exclusive problem for Israel. Which it isn’t.

aengus on December 22, 2007 at 12:50 AM

Finally Clueless Condi Rice says something correct.

Hilts on December 22, 2007 at 7:03 AM

Again, Gov. Huckabee’s Foreign Policy experience is allowing Arkansas becoming a Shamnesty State.

Huckabee is a Klintonite that has an (R) after his name as a conveyance not conviction.
