Actually, if Clinton would have just admitted his affair with Lewinsky, there would have been little anyone could have done about it. In case you forgot, it was the perjury and cover-up that got him in the end. In Rudy's case, there appears to have been no cover-up.

<blockquote>Also, the decisions to afford security to anyone connected to the Mayor was not made by the Mayor but by the NYPD independently.</blockquote>

That's a non sequitor. Who asks the question of security in the first place? There is nothing independent about a police department.

Chris Matthews just apologized to Rudy for going with this story. He saw it for what it was, just a bogus excuse to get the affair back into the news.

Also, the decisions to afford security to anyone connected to the Mayor was not made by the Mayor but by the NYPD independently. So, Rudy did not give Judi security -- she was given security at the judgment of the NYPD based on actual threats received. Also, who the F wants to drag a security detail along with you to the store every time you need to pick up some toilet paper. A security detail is not a good thing. It is a hassle, and means someone has threatened to hurt you. FUN FUN

But then again that is not the story either, its the affair.
MUST GET AFFAIR IN NEWS. MUST GET AFFAIR IN NEWS. (says the Mittbots)

Yeah, no financial improprieties. If a Clinton had a hook-up on the side, and was using taxpayer money to pay for security, travel, the security for the side item, probably meals and God only knows what else, we'd all be cool with that. You are right. That is fine and kosher, okay, sure. He'll represent us fine in the White House and there is nothing to worry about.

I think I'll pass.

Wasn't Bryan making grand Clintonian comparisons to cover-ups and blue dresses, but it was mostly, crap. There were no financial improprieties. So, there was no story. But, the media got another excuse to bring up and rehash the old story of Rudy's messy divorce -- Mission accomplished, team Romney!

That being said. Rudy is not dead yet. The Huckster's boom will fade, and Rudy still leads nationally and in FL in most polls. Rudy's demise is premised on the ASSUMPTION that after loosing in the early contests, he will loose his lead in FL and nationally. You know what happens when you ASSUME. Judging from the level of support out there now, without assuming any shift in the polls, Rudy still emerges on 2/6 with a daunting lead in delegates.

As someone who has consistently noted that the IA caucuses have consistently been overrated in import, let me add that MI is even less so. It will only matter if it begins affecting fundraising (and the organization funded thereby).

That being said, iirc, Rudy has started spending faster than he is taking in, but had a decent cash cushion at the end of Q3. The compressed schedule almost ensures Rudy can get to FL. If a series of poor showings sinks him in FL, the going will likely get much rogher quickly.

Five paragraphs from the bottom of a 40-somthing paragraph article.

<blockquote>"Over time, the records were microfilmed and returned to the city archives. Giuliani aides have bristled at suggestions that documents were withheld, scrubbed of embarrassing details or destroyed.

The administration of Giuliani's successor, Michael Bloomberg, is confident the records were returned. City archivists echo that assessment but, when questioned, acknowledge the situation is less than definitive.

In 2003, New York City enacted a law forbidding sitting mayors from hiring private firms to archive their papers."</blockquote>

Am I the only one listening to Rush absolutely take Huckabee apart on his show this afternoon.

Wow.

Rush has spent the first 45 mins today going after Huckabee and he is scoring direct hits.

I can see a banner headline on Drudge later today: Rush Attacks Huckabee... just watch.

I really thought Rudy would be a much stronger showing. He came into this with plenty of bonus points, but did not fill the form that his legend had created.
