Edwards vs Clinton: I care more! No, I care more!

Children squabbling over the poverty toy.
Clinton and Edwards have spent the past few days in a verbal tug-of-war over their respective anti-poverty credentials. At a New Hampshire campaign stop Wednesday, Edwards reacted angrily to comments that he said questioned his commitment to ending poverty.
“She said something about ‘People are talking about poverty, but, you know, what are we going to do about it?’” characterizing the remarks as a “veiled reference” to him. “Let me just be clear,” said Edwards. “Ending poverty in this country is the cause of my life, and I am completely committed to it.”
He then called on Clinton and other White House hopefuls to commit to raising the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour, and to come up with their own comprehensive plan to end poverty.
In an interview with CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux Thursday afternoon, Edwards again called on Clinton and the rest of his Democratic rivals to come out in favor of the $9.50 figure. Clinton’s statement was released shortly after his appearance.
That statement was that she had already introduced legislation — on Wednesday — to raise the minimum wage.

Children squabbling over who can rip our wallets’ contents out faster/better. To heck with both of them, and Obama too. A bunch of ripp-offs in disguise. Imagining a Huckabee v. any of the three gives me a huge case of indigestion.

WOLFEBORO, N.H. — Former President Clinton says his wife is a “world-class genius” when it comes to improving the lives of others.
Just read that headline from the AP. I’d hate to see who slick Willie thinks is a world class moron. Oh, wait. It’s gotta be George W. Bush. My bad.
pistolero on December 21, 2007 at 12:56 PM
Actually, a bunch of ripp-offs in the open. They’re trying to outdo each other – thus, not so much disguise.
Entelechy on December 21, 2007 at 1:01 PM
When I see that photo on the main page, I can’t help but think that Edwards is saying, “It’s this long.” Which pretty much sums up my opinion of that pandering ambulance-chaser.
ReubenJCogburn on December 21, 2007 at 1:03 PM
Wow…$9.50, no fence, health care, tuition, no war, equality,………maybe I need to switch over. If he would just throw in some S’mores and free daycare I just might.

If Silky wants to end poverty he should move his lilac powedered a$$ to Ethiopia and live in a one room, dirt floor, clay hut filled with flies and spend the day working a hoe (the tool, not his marketing mistress).

I’d love to see a debate between Billy Jeff and the Huckster on the government’s role in kindness. Particularly since Slick’s campaign fluff is really all about him. The Bent One vs God’s messenger. Cage match with no tapping out.

9.5 an hour minimum wage? Holy handgrenades, batman. Talk about find ways to cause inflation and increase outsourcing. If anything, democrats should support destroying the minimum wage.

Hillary: ♫I can do anything better than you♫
Edwards: ♫No you can’t♫
Hillary: ♫Yes I can♫

Woah. The starting pay at the company where I work is $9 an hour. I’ve gotten a raise since then, but that would still ruin this tiny company. They can’t afford to give us 50% raises just to keep pace with minimum wage, and the work just isn’t so great that it’s better than working at Walmart.
Esthier on December 21, 2007 at 1:42 PM
Edwards is totally committed to helping the less fortunate. Why, he’s even providing free room and board for a single expecting mother in North Carolina. She has a funny name, I can’t really remember it…

I’m not going to advocate a $9.50 minimum wage, but folks do have to recognize the cost of living. Here in VT I think they put the minimum wage at $7.50 now… and it probably should be left up to the states. But even at $7.50, you’d be lucky to afford to eat and have an apartment with a bunch of roommates. The cost of living here is insane and the taxes are the highest per capita in the nation. But the cheapest I’ve seen advertised here anyway is like $9.00 for some telemarketing place. McDonald’s down the road has had a sign up for $9.50 for going on 2 years and obviously can’t get anyone to stay and work for that much.
On the other side of the coin, I was laid off for a few months when I was living in Nashville a few years ago. I didn’t want to waste my money on regular bills (even though I had one a years free rent at my apartment complex), so I figured I’d just go get a gig at the TJ Maxx down the road, get a discount, etc. Well, the job was for nighttime receiver (handle the trucks bringing loads in at night, etc.) You’d think outside of upper management, this would be one of the highest paying jobs in the place (everyone else are just cashiers who, I’m sorry, are straight out of special education). I easily got the job, never crossed my mind that I wouldn’t… but when they called to tell me, they told me they couldn’t give me the $8-9 (which I thought was extremely low ball, but I knew I’d only have to live with it for a couple of months) I requested… They wanted to pay me $5.75!!! WTF!? I laughed at the guy… and I suspect he laughed as he hired a Mexican for that amount.
Anyway, again, I don’t advocate that sort of minimum wage… do 16 year olds really need that kind of cash at their first job? Seems a bit extreme. But it should be changed on a state by state basis, because the cost of living varies greatly. TN didn’t have a state minimum, and went on the Federal, which was $5.15 at the time. Who the hell lives on that? Granted the cost of living is cheaper there than here, but virtually all jobs here pay double that, no matter how entry level/low skilled they are.

Jim Treacher, her name is Rielle Hunter. A married operative in the Edwards campaign is taking care of her to be kept behind gates in his own neighborhood, and has claimed paternity, heh. Developing…keeping in mind this is the Enquirer, of course. I added this last part to feel less dirty :)

Stalin cared more than Trotsky. Or, was it the other way around? I can’t remember. Anyway, Lenin cared more than Stalin. Or, was it more than Trotsky?
OhEssYouCowboys on December 21, 2007 at 2:08 PM
The way to end poverty is to pay everyone more, and give everyone jobs. If the minimum wage is too high and puts private companies out of business, the government can just hire those workers.
Then to pay all those government workers, you tax the rich.
It is so simple, people.

Jees! I read some of that blog on CNN’s site.
This country is filthy with commies.
TheSitRep on December 21, 2007 at 2:22 PM
I can’t remember who said it, but it went like this:
“America is the last hope of Communism. It’s failed everywhere else.”
With each generation after “The Greatest,” the public schools have incrementally indoctrinated the children to embrace Communism, and to abhor the ownership of guns. They go hand-in-hand – and this Nation will fall. I’m sorry to say that I’m still young enough to watch the collapse.

In both the front page and article pics, Hill looks like “Why should I have to stand here and listen to this claptrap. This is my Presidency. Why don’t they all just f’n GO AWAY!”

Minimum wage is not a “living wage” it is an entry level wage. The lowest paid jobs are not there to raise a family or even for someone to live on their own. By design they are created to come in, and move up the ladder (or out). You did the right thing for you, you were worth more than a few bucks an hour. That’s the point, those jobs are for temporary positions, not as a vocation.
right2bright on December 21, 2007 at 4:10 PM
We know that, they know that, but it does resonate with the “unwashed masses.”
For the woman handing out lists of Democrats to vote for in front of the polls last time around, that was the big issue: “My son/daughter/babydaddy make minimum wage…you can’t raise a family on that!” I won’t go into my witty rejoinders here, but suffice it to say that the “living wage” canard has been swallowed whole by a lot of people.

That graphic showing Edwards and Clinton should be captioned,

My wife was teaching English with the grad students at a big university, and of course a couple of these progressive 20-somethings had bigass communist campaign posters on their office doors. This was, geez, 15 years ago, but I remember the candidate was some black lesbian demanding an immediate nationwide $15/hour minimum wage.
To which Rush’s argument is always a winner: “Fifteen bucks an hour? Who can raise a family on that? Why are you so friggin’ cheap? Why not $100/hour, you heartless b1tch?”
saint kansas on December 21, 2007 at 5:05 PM
Just like Al Gore: “When I was a child, my family was attacked by an invisible force that was then considered harmless. The connection between
smokingcarbon dioxide andlung cancerglobal warming had not yet been established… And that is why until I draw my last breath, I will pour my heart and soul into the cause of protecting our children from the dangers ofsmokingglobal warming.”saint kansas on December 21, 2007 at 5:32 PM
Then his (Hillary’s as well) life has been, and will be, a complete waste. Does he really believe, heck, does ANYONE really believe it is possible to “end poverty”?
God doesn’t think so, and He’s GOD!!
Jesus Himself said:
John 12:8 (emphasis added)
Fatal on December 21, 2007 at 7:52 PM
Oh, and by the way, if you can’t raise a family on minimum wage:
1. Don’t start a family; OR
2. Don’t work at a minimum wage job.
Sheesh
(Minimum wage should be abolished, its simply another example of why this is no longer the “land of the free”.
Fatal on December 21, 2007 at 7:57 PM
Ah, who IS more like Marx?
Gatordoug on December 21, 2007 at 9:08 PM
Aawww…. Hillary and Silky have so much love for poor folks that they just can’t give it away fast enough, so they’re in a race to see who can create more of them. That’s how big their hearts are. They just want more people to love, that’s all.
p.v. cornelius on December 21, 2007 at 9:29 PM
Or maybe: “I don’t care what Rielle says, I only put it in that much.”
