Video: “Stairway to Heaven”

posted at 12:53 pm on December 20, 2007 by Allahpundit

Posted on YouTube in July, recorded (per the description there) on Aussie TV in the early 90s, but only just making the rounds today for whatever reason. We’ve had Beatles hybrids and Led Zep hybrids; a Beatles/Zeppelin hybrid was, I suppose, a foregone conclusion.

Some of the harmony parts are a bit more Beach Boys than Fabs (“the road you’re on” especially) but it’s an inspired rendition overall. The lead singer looks enough like Lennon that at first I thought this was old Beatles footage with the “Beatnix” lighting digitally added. When in doubt, always look to see how “Paul” is holding his bass. Mystery solved.

Skittle version. Nice.

I think you can sing “Amazing Grace” to “stairway to heaven”. And to the theme from “gilligan’s island” too.

TexasDan on December 20, 2007 at 1:05 PM

Drats, foiled again. I was going to mention Amazing Grace sung to Gilligans island them.

2:40 I’ll never get back…evah.

Thanks, you just ruined that song for me. Please, make it stop.

Pretty clever! Nice way to waste time on a snowy lunch hour.

The harmony on “the road you’re on” is an homage to the Beatles’ version of Twist And Shout. Same with the “not to roll” at the end.

TexasDan on December 20, 2007 at 1:05 PM

I’ve heard a recording of the Gilligan’s Island theme mixed with Stairway To Heaven. I think it was by the Good Humor Band, and that they got sued by the the owners of both songs.

I did notice Paul being right handed, but the big tip off for me was the fact that this Ringo was a good drummer.

Very well done. I also like Beatallica’s “Hey Dude” on YouTube.

AtomicAmish on December 20, 2007 at 1:23 PM

Hey, way better than the original!

I hate it. But I do like Dread Zeppelin as was mentioned already.

The problem with Dread Zep (and probably these other bands) is that the joke only works for one song. Aside from “Heartbreaker,” does Dread have anything worthwhile in its catalog? Not from what I can tell.

Link’s gone…

Oops…nevermind.

Sorry

Yeah, their version of “Your Time Is Gonna Come” is hilarious. Robert Plant himself said he preferred Dread Zeppelin’s version of “Your Time Is Gonna Come” over his own Led Zeppelin version. I thought their “Immigrant Song” was great.

ScottMcC on December 20, 2007 at 2:11 PM

Oh, great. Now I’ve got an ohrwurm.

flipflop on December 20, 2007 at 2:16 PM

Reminds me of that old band from the 1960s, of The Rutles.

I used to have Un-Led-Ed on cassette (man, I’m old). Anyway, there are a lot of good tunes on that one. It is hilarious to play at a party. Check out the samples and see what you think.

That drummer’s nose is way too small. Ringo always seemed to have an Arafat thing going on.

Wow.

My ears are bleeding.
