Bill Donohue thinks calling a homosexual a faggot on national television is proper discourse. I think we can really ignore anything he has to say.

As for Donahue, he’s a dick.

That's a good ad. But the dumb look on the cheetah at the end reminds me, actually, of Huck.

It is amazing how you think about things such as Christianity, first of all the Roman church ruled for how many years before there was a break away by the Protestant Revolution? So then why would they get pissy when Catholics call themselves Christian? Your response doesn't address my point, its just "we don't like your doctrine", which is fine, but irrelevent...but you don't seem to like Catholics too much, so I'm not real optimistic on you producing a valid point.

Another Catholic here. Donohue? Opinions are generally right but issues bombast, insults and personal attacks when offended, not a good strategy. Plus he's Mr. Grump; ya gotta *smile* for the camera if you expect anyone to actually listen to you.

I got yer great Catholic (and Christian) spokesman right here.

Some Protestants get real pissy when Catholics call themselves Christian, though I wonder if its more a Southern thing, cuz I’ve never seen anything like that in PA.

It's not so much that we don't think Catholics are Christian, but we question some of the teachings of the Church. When we do, Catholics are appalled and cry 'bigot'. Non-Catholic Christians DEPEND on the Bible as the word of God. Catholics depend on the clergy as to whether or not what they do is 'Christian' or not. The Bible is as close to Jesus' uncorrupted words and deeds as you will get.

So long as the Catholics maintain the tenants of the Bible, non-Catholics don't tend to judge. It's when they point to the Pope, or the clergy for authority that Protestants get leary.

Donahue doesn't want someone 'hawking' Christianity, but that's what he does.

If it was done by a Catholic Priest he doesn't have a problem with it. He's bigoted against non-Catholic Christians. Actually he thinks that is an oxymoron. He wants a pro choice Guiliani BECAUSE he's Catholic, but doesn't want a pro life Huckabee because he's not 'Christian enough'.

non-Catholic Christians talking about their faith offends him.

It seemed to me that Huck was trying to look presidential in that Merry Christmas to all ad. A future 'from the Oval Office' message.
He definitely got his money's worth, whatever he was attempting to do, it worked.

Bad Candy on December 18, 2007 at 12:09 PM

I was speaking to parents at a Catholic School and mentioned Christian values being an important part of education. A women jumped up and shouted over my lecture that the front of the school says, "Catholic" not "Christian".

On the other hand, someone in a seminary class mentioned that they have met some Catholics that they actually think are saved.

I'm more the ecumenical type.

Huckabee is such a sanctimonious whiner. I'm glad that people are catching on, and welcome Bill Donahue's input.

The other night Brit Hume said that Huckabee was "skiing in front of an avalanche' and eventually it would catch up with him. It can't be soon enough for me.

Well now that explains it.

Yeah, between that ad, the Obama "1984" ad and the one linked by Bryan for Fred Thompson, the amateurs are kicking the stuffing out of the professionals this season in terms of originality.

Yes, but it’s a fan vid. That’s a french commercial for a restaurant with new video added, made by a Huckabee supporter.

I'm not some supporter of Bill Donohue, and I'm a regular pisser-offer of Catholics around here, but he's totally right... This is disgusting pandering by Huck. He's not jumping in the polls because of his policies, he's cashing in on the overwhelming number of Christians in the country, (and the media's need to set up a ringer for the Democrats to take down). The ad isn't that offensive, because in a way it's actually refreshing to see a politician who has the balls to say "This holiday is about the birth of Christ....", but at the same time, any ethical person recognizes the shameless and substance-less vote pandering that this is.

I liked Huck's Christmas ad
...
I also liked this cheetah ad as well.

Considering Huck has a shoe string budget, they are very impressive.
...
Donahue tends to be a blow hard. And I'm a Catholic.

Actually, the reverse is true, he's probably concerned that Huck's way too Protestant. Some Protestants get real pissy when Catholics call themselves Christian, though I wonder if its more a Southern thing, cuz I've never seen anything like that in PA.

I know someone going to college in MD who went to a Catholic bookstore, saw a person walk in who threw a sh*tfit because the store was advertised as a Christian Bookstore when it was clearly an eeevil Catholic bookstore, apparently that wasn't an unusual reaction either. So that might be in play.
