So then why would they get pissy when Catholics call themselves Christian? Your response doesn’t address my point, its just “we don’t like your doctrine”, which is fine, but irrelevent…but you don’t seem to like Catholics too much, so I’m not real optimistic on you producing a valid point.

It’s not so much that we don’t think Catholics are Christian, but we question some of the teachings of the Church. When we do, Catholics are appalled and cry ‘bigot’. Non-Catholic Christians DEPEND on the Bible as the word of God. Catholics depend on the clergy as to whether or not what they do is ‘Christian’ or not. The Bible is as close to Jesus’ uncorrupted words and deeds as you will get.

So long as the Catholics maintain the tenants of the Bible, non-Catholics don’t tend to judge. It’s when they point to the Pope, or the clergy for authority that Protestants get leary.

If it was done by a Catholic Priest he doesn’t have a problem with it. He’s bigoted against non-Catholic Christians. Actually he thinks that is an oxymoron. He wants a pro choice Guiliani BECAUSE he’s Catholic, but doesn’t want a pro life Huckabee because he’s not ‘Christian enough’.

I was speaking to parents at a Catholic School and mentioned Christian values being an important part of education. A women jumped up and shouted over my lecture that the front of the school says, “Catholic” not “Christian”.

On the other hand, someone in a seminary class mentioned that they have met some Catholics that they actually think are saved.

I’m more the ecumenical type.

The other night Brit Hume said that Huckabee was “skiing in front of an avalanche’ and eventually it would catch up with him. It can’t be soon enough for me.

I know someone going to college in MD who went to a Catholic bookstore, saw a person walk in who threw a sh*tfit because the store was advertised as a Christian Bookstore when it was clearly an eeevil Catholic bookstore, apparently that wasn’t an unusual reaction either. So that might be in play.
