Trailer: Hancock

I don’t know what I think about this film. Will Smith is becoming a Scientologist doofus but he’s not Hollywood’s most annoying actor (the guy next to him in the pic at the link is, though). The concept is high enough that Hancock could be interesting, or could be a total waste of time. The line at the end of the trailer about Green Peace might be gold. I’m just not sure if it’s worth waiting through a whole movie for that one line.

That could be an interesting concept…. kind of like the setup for the beginning of the Incredibles, though. Where all the superheros get banned because they saved people who didn’t want to be saved, etc.
Doubt I’ll see it, though.

Peter Berg wrote and directed it, so that shows some promise.
And it’s good to see Jason Bateman in ‘droll’ mode again.

Dvd maybe….theater?….nah.

Eh, what the heck. It looks like fun. Drunken, listless slacker with super powers. What’s not to like?

Going after the Charlton Heston lifetime award prize.
First the remake of Omega Man as I am Legend.
From what cold dead hands did Scientology come from?
Hip 2B Tragic. (=`-`=)

Odd title for a superhero.

Sometimes it just isn’t worth the effort.

It’s too much to hope for a Declaration of Independence movie.
“Hell No, King.”

Well it looks like this Hancock character is a little
crude, his work appears to be a tad sloppy, but what the
heck,he gets the job done. The whale smacking greenpeace,
might be just worth the price of admission.

One of these religions is not like the others.

The main conflict in Hancock is between the affair between Wil Smith’s superhero and the Jason Bateman character’s wife. Bateman is a PR flack that Smith’s character saves from the train–in return he tries to “clean up” the superhero’s tainted image. The superhero is resistant until he realizes the more time he spends with the PR flack equals more time to be with the PR flack’s beautiful wife.
So… The work-obsessed PR guy teams with the jaded superhero who only cares about banging the impossibly hot yet still ignored and unfulfilled wife.
Ooooh, so many questions:
Will the PR flack find a moral center while also reconnecting with his wife?
Will the wife show the jaded superhero a reason to be a hero again while also getting captured by a bad guy intent on destroying Los Angeles?
Will the superhero gain redemption by NOT banging the hot wife while also stopping a bad guy from destroying Los Angeles?
Can’t wait to find out!

Count me out. I might go to the movie theater once a year. Freedom of choice and I choose not to support leftist goons. Nope, Hollyweird is not for me.
PS, I do not know if Smith is leftist or not and I do not care to find out. Sorry Will.

It’s too bad that Will Smith has joined Scientology; he stars in several of my favorite movies. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, (maybe because they’re nuts), once an actor becomes a scientologist their movies always suck.
FloatingRock on December 18, 2007 at 8:28 PM
There are too many ways for this movie to suck. I’ll probably wait for the DVD to come out and put it on my Netflix list. It’s safer that way.

What’s with the “LOST” font?
Mistahtibbs on December 18, 2007 at 10:54 PM
ANYTHING is better than “I Am Legend”… ah, and “Hitch”.
Timothy S. Carlson on December 19, 2007 at 12:33 AM
Comic books have already done the whole superheroes in the real world thing. Only it was always less humorous and more horrifying.

Greatest American Hero, anyone?

Now that would be a show worth making a movie out of.

Really enjoyed I Am Legend and this gave me a couple laughs, especially since it seems that Jason Bateman is playing his character from AD again (loved that show). Also Peter Berg did the Rundown and I loved that one too.
Either way, The Dark Knight gets my money before this anyways.

This was initially called TONIGHT HE COMES about 10 years ago, before going through a long series of rewrites and title changes. Originally, it was about a superhero with, er, “performance issues”, who resolves said issues at the end of the movie, hence the title.
Mibrilane on December 19, 2007 at 2:26 AM
Did anyone here READ I am Legend?
Curious.
Ugly on December 19, 2007 at 2:27 AM
Read it, loved it, and it’s why I’m going to wait to rent the movie.
Nonfactor on December 19, 2007 at 5:27 AM
Heh, I just ran through the first season of that show on NetFlix. (Heroes made me harken back to it.)

Hero at Large?
James on December 19, 2007 at 9:58 AM
If showing the real-world consequences of a super-powered being running around (lots of stuff getting broken) didn’t already do it, then tossing the whale sold me. And I thought “Hitch” was funny, and I just saw and loved “I Am Legend”. I think he may be losing his mind r/e the whole Scientology thing, though.
Frozen Tex on December 19, 2007 at 10:09 AM
Looks like a return to form for Smith. No more of that “I can act” crap. Should be a good time, and probably worth a peek in the second run theatre.
