Rep. Steve King: Why I’m a Fredhead

posted at 3:24 pm on December 18, 2007 by Allahpundit

The eleventh-hour resurgence of Fredmania continues. Even the Hammer seems swept up in its tide, which may be a firing offense at Townhall at this point. How’s he doing? The good news is, his goal of finishing no worse than third in Iowa is well within reach. The bad news: Third place increasingly looks to be a single-digit distinction, somewhere in the vicinity of 25 points behind Mitt. As for South Carolina, Huckabee’s the clear leader but it’s a jumble after that. Some polls have Fred in second; one, ominously, has him in fourth, behind even Giuliani. Exit question: Given that he’s almost certain to finish behind Huck and Mitt in Iowa, how does he lap them in momentum to somehow steal a win in SC?

Blowback

Quite clearly, it would bring her objectivity into question, and I’m not sure she can be taken seriously anymore.

Sincerely,

Hugh Hewitt

just a question Allah: I know you arent particularly enamored with any of the guys running for the Republican nomination, but if you were forced to vote for one – who would you pick?

amish on December 18, 2007 at 3:31 PM

The good news: He’s well within reach of his third place goal in Iowa.

The bad news: His goal in Iowa is third place.

Its because Fred wife is a MILF and MKH is just angling for some more time on the Factor.

Eh, gun to my head, probably Fred.

I think he has to hope people get turned off and fatigued by the “More Jesus-y than you” fight between Mitt and Huck, and that Rudy’s campaign stays wobbly, and that he’ll pick up McCain, Tanc and Hunter’s voters.

Bad Candy on December 18, 2007 at 3:34 PM

Up, down, over, under……yeah you all know I don’t put much stock in the polls (especially in a primary)…but it looks like, to me, that it is going to come down to who trips on a rock. Fred could pull Iowa out…if so SC will fall right in line. I think all this ‘dissatisfaction’ with the candidates is simply the voters waiting for someone to hit a home run. Whoever that is is going to get the bounce of a lifetime.

Go FRED!!!!!!!

Limerick on December 18, 2007 at 3:37 PM

The more endorsements Fred gets, the better…but for God’s sake, couldn’t they get a cameraman who could hold the camera steady?

Allahpundit on December 18, 2007 at 3:33 PM

When did you tell Rudy, and how did he take it?

AZCON on December 18, 2007 at 3:39 PM

Fredhead! Wooo hooo!

msipes on December 18, 2007 at 3:41 PM

huckamania has Sparked a Fred Resurgence. Romney and Rudy were riding a good wave but Huck stole their thunder from evangelicals who backed Romney for his faith and Rudy for his leadership. Huck is soaking up thier popularity.

Now the question is becoming “Who is the real conservative alternative to Huck and Rudy and Mitt ?”

Fred is well positioned here. Hes to the right of that group who all feed off each others support.

William Amos on December 18, 2007 at 3:42 PM

Thank you for answering.

Im a Thompson supporter, but Hucks explosion has got me to looking at candidates that i didnt think i would ever vote for as a fallback if Fred doesnt make it.

Ha. Better Fred than dead, I guess.

ChrisM on December 18, 2007 at 3:49 PM

I just gotta tell Fred… keep up the surge & energy… you can win this puppy.

msipes on December 18, 2007 at 3:53 PM

Finally somebody’s talkin’ about the supreme court.
The Republican who wins, is going to be the one with the best vision of the future for America, not who has the most orthodox past. Vision thing…gotta have it.

Iblis on December 18, 2007 at 3:54 PM

Ha. Better Fred than dead, I guess.

ChrisM on December 18, 2007 at 3:49 PM

Damn. I was going to say that. ;>

I would be happier about Steve King’s endorsement if I had ever heard of him before. And if his delivery weren’t so dry. But I guess he’s helpful in Iowa, huh?

JackOfClubs on December 18, 2007 at 4:01 PM

Better Fred than de–oh, dammit.

Enrique on December 18, 2007 at 4:06 PM

What’s really interesting is that Giuliani is in real danger of finishing last in Iowa. I think McCain and Paul are within striking distance, considering that their support is “deeper,” which matters when caucuses are decided by the small percentage of the population that cares enough to brave the snow and spend a few hours standing around. And if those trend lines keep up, it’s going to be Paul and Thompson battling for third (Giuliani seems to be dropping faster than Thompson, and Paul is the only one besides Huckabee who is gaining support).

Ok AP, good to know. Will Bryan and Michelle be revealing their preferences?

Inquiring minds want to know.

CP on December 18, 2007 at 4:24 PM

Stop the nonsense. The terrorist advising, abortion group lobbying, campaign contribution funneling, faux pro-life (actually pro-choice) Fred IS DEAD. Let him RIP.

gun to the head it will be then! Yippeeee!!!

Go Fred.

I’m still a Fred! head. At work, I was astonished to see a supply of Fred! bumper stickers. I took one, and when the temp goes up, I’ll clean off my car and put it on.

Mooseman on December 18, 2007 at 5:45 PM

why is it eleventh hour when the election isn’t until nov? since when did the election year start 2 years before the day we go to the polls?

Fred knows he doesn’t have to politic for 2 solid years. he can start when he did and big whoop for iowa caucuses and new hampshire. let’s see if Fred loses the southern states and then write him off.

gun to my head or not, Thompson is the ONLY one talking policy, plans, governing, etc.

JazzBass on December 18, 2007 at 5:51 PM

Eh, gun to my head, probably Fred.

Dang, should have gone on record with that guess. If I had to guess, I’d say Michelle is a Fredhead too. Only because he’s the only reasonably viable pro-Iraq-war true-conservative. He’s asleep at the wheel, but I guess that’s better than Mitt and Giuliani who frequently drive on the wrong side of the road on purpose, and better than Huck who’s driving the Straight and Narrow expressway to do-goodville. Maybe trophy wife can slip some caffeine in Fred’s apple juice every once in a while.

Mark Jaquith on December 18, 2007 at 6:10 PM

And, gun to my head, I’d probably vote for Fred in the general, if he got the Republican nomination. But not a chance I’m voting for Mitt, Rudy, or Huck.

I don’t care if it IS gun to the head, an AP endorsement just Rocks! Makes getting my car keyed driving around on the CA15 freeway with that Fred08 sticker squarely in the center of the bumper of my Toyota Camry worthwhile… including the birds, tailgating, getting cut-off or nearly side-swiped, or chased.

Sultry Beauty on December 18, 2007 at 6:49 PM

JazzBass on December 18, 2007 at 5:51 PM

2 years? The election is Nov. 2008… that’s next year!

I agree everyone jumped out of the gate way too early, but 2008 will be here in just three weeks. It’s getting close to time to start now. Good idea to wait, Fred, but don’t wait too long!

Go FRED!

Unfortunetely Fred Thompson was not awake to recieve the endorsement.

Naaa… he’s over at Ace’s spouting his same lame-ass crap, verbatim.

Responses from the Morons, as you might expect, are considerably more colorful however.

//Gotta love those Morons

Had great hopes for BK since he declared the war against Fred over, but he seems to be backsliding lately. Just a phase in his recovery, I hope.

I hope Mitt ends up last in EVERY contest. Well, right above Huckabee, anyway.

And I love James Dobson. Go figure.

All Fred has to do is State the positions just outlined in this video and do it with total conviction and enthusiasm. Republicans want to like Fred, it’s just that they want Fred to BE Fred and be proud of it.
