Somewhere in America, Mr. Harris sits in a dark corner, composing a fatwah.
Limerick on December 18, 2007 at 10:55 PM
Christians don’t issue fatwas.
Harris’s essay may have been ill-conceived, but don’t liken him to those people; especially since Harris has written many excellent essays on fighting Islamists. Don’t go all R. O’Donnell on us.
(And yes, I’m a little sensitive about this because some pinhead who knew that I was a Christian accused me of issuing a fatwa simply because I happened to mention the reason that I am usually not at home on Sunday mornings.)
The only “fatwa” that should be issued is on Huckabee’s presidential candidacy.
Fred Thompson today, upon hearing that rival Ron Paul’s supporters had raised $6 million in 24 hours to commemorate the Boston Tea Party, called on his supporters to match that figure in gun purchases before Christmas to mark George Washington’s victory at the Battle of Trenton.
That’s the man I want delivering the State of the Union speeches for the next 8 years.
ps. The mischief in that grin he flashed? The man has humor too. No wonder he won the beautiful, brainy, and Jeri.
pps. I’ve seen them both in person, spoken with Jeri. He comes across with a compelling mixture of humbleness, friendliness, sincerity, and Reardon’s Metal. She’s as gracious as they come, and dainty as a fawn.
Big S, on same wavelength with csdeven, and the Kennedy young’un “Calling csdeven…come in csdeven…stormy still…calling csdeven…” Come on csdeven, I know you’re there. Get over it. Life will go on. Pride is no good. Ya learned the lesson, now shake it off and move on. I still love you just the same, and Mrs. Thompson would forgive you too.
See-dub said it best, to this effect “when Fred Thompson shakes your hand, it’s as if it was Mount Rushmore”. I met the man twice and he is very simpatico. More so in person, than on TV. Fire away, Fred-bashers. I can take it.
You betcha. Look, I think Thompson would make an OK president, and would surely vote for him in the general election. However, all he did here was call Huckabee a liberal. It’s nothing to get too excited over; all of Republican candidates will level that charge at their opponents from time to time, and all of them will be partially correct. No (R) candidate this cycle is the “average” Republican, and each one has their own little heterodoxies from the established “consensus”, and has evolved from previously held “moderate” positions, including Fred. There is obviously not a single set of viewpoints that qualify somebody as a conservative; the definition of that term is malleable, and depends on who you are. When Fred accuses Mike “Quarantine the AIDS Patients” Huckabee of having socially liberal positions, he comes across as silly.
Pat Dollard is calling in a huge favor from the conservative blog sphere to literally help support the untold story from our troops. I think this is an important project.
If you watched the whole H&C interview, it was pretty good actually, he did well. I think he can turn it around, dunno if he’ll get the nom, he’s at a major disadvantage right now even with his recent moves toward recovery, but I think he can turn it around. I’m cautiously optimistic.
er. The beautiful, the brainy, and perfectly suited to be First Lady, Jeri.
No kidding folks, the camera doesn’t do her justice. In person, her presence is breathtaking. Tiny little slip of a thing, really.
There’s no haughtiness to either of them. Both of them radiate unaffected charm, authentic pleasure to be in the same room with fly-over citizens, and yes, steely patriotism.
If he does well, good; we need all of the candidates to be sharp, and the more that do well, the better. However, I’m a bit disappointed in the silliness of the primary campaign this year. We’ve got two front-running candidates arguing over where to go to church, and another trying to create an all-encompassing definition of the term “conservative” explicitly in order to exclude his main competition. I understand that Fred’s very heavily influenced by Barry Goldwater, but to hew to that standard as defining conservatism is ridiculous, and a recipe for electoral disaster.
He has been posting on the ACE of Spades blog if you really miss him that much. I kind of like the quiet myself.

I must say, I concur. Yet. I sincerely like csdeven, and fully expect him to buy round after round after round, when I meet him someday. The little brood of copycats he spawned on this blog, not so much.
He’s devoted himself to full-time Fred hating on several other blogs.

One has to also run a life. Though, I must say that whenever there are links to ACE, I’ve been highly entertained.
That man, though, csdeven, has to buy me a drink in San Diego, in 2008, one way or another. If his candidate makes it then I have to buy. Either way will be good, so long as he’s not for Huckabee.
He’s already got my full backing, but every time I think he can’t impress me any more, I’m corrected.

That’s what you get for lurking at too many of those “ugly contestants” last night :)
Entelechy on December 19, 2007 at 12:22 AM
Well, I did make the final 10. Then they made me remove my ‘ugly’ mask and I was revealed for the blossoming flower I am. A Blossoming Flower of Doom to Wrong-Doers and Idiots. I skate on ice so thin it would make anorexic waterbugs cry.
So look out for my intense glare and my brooding presence. When you feel my icy glower, say your prayers.
I’m wanted by authorities on 17 planets, yo. Don’t try to call me, because I screen my calls.
We represent 0.001% of the voters. In Iowa we represent 0.00001% of the voters. We all get full of ourselves and are electron addicts. That said….the polls are BS. What a great scam….you can put ANY number combination you want together as long as you remember to bring them together on the last day. A perfect con to keep the checks rolling in.
This thread has 65 comments. But! My money says Iowa voters are smarter-n-us.
hmmm…. I don’t know about smarter but perhaps more reasonable. My lawyer status automatically disqualifies me as a reasonable person. I just hope our party doesn’t nominate the extremely compassionate conservative (i.e. liberal) Mike Huckabee.

Due to a copyright claim by Joe Walsh, I was unable to dedicate an entire you-tube vid to you. However, if you would click this link and turn up your sound for a few seconds, I would be most obliged.
Christmas eve, Christmas day, New Year, 3 days of nothing to report on, that leaves us with what?….13 days of sound bytes until the caucus. Will Hillary Dean out? Will Edwards wag a ‘no-i-did-not’ finger at the camera? Will Fred forget to put on his pants? Will Mitt talk into a hat while Huckabee hurls brimstone at the crowd?
Put on yer seatbelts. Keep your arms in the car. The traffic count is about to go through the roof.
If any. Any. of these clowns, foreign or domestic, contrive to interfere with my Christmas, anniversary, or New Years, I will be sure to let you know with extra posts here on HA.

He didn’t get in in time for the straw poll, and he hasn’t campaigned in Iowa. We’ll see if he can shake enough hands in the next two weeks to pull it off.
I would have to answer my phone for that to happen. I doubt I’m the only one that doesn’t answer their phones for unknown calls. Thats one of the reasons these polls mean nothing.
I think in a ‘perfect world’ where Duncan Hunter got the recognition that he deserves, 80% of us Hot Air folks would be rooting for him. But Yeah, I think that a poll here would show Fred as a slight, but clear leader.
Not only is Huckles a liberal, he’s a Clinton plant. As one who spent 10 years in a baptist congregation, Huckles is not to be trusted with any authority. When religionists start throwing the Lord’s name around, hide the women and grab your wallet.
What I hear from Fred, I read on the blogs first–every time. That is the yellow light that goes off in my mind every time I consider him. Almost anyone here could compose a list of the “perfect” conservative views. Get a decent enough and friendly enough person to deliver them and you’ve got a candidate. After the Huck scare, Fred’s negatives seem to be being ignored now.

A perfect con to keep the checks rolling in.

hmmm…. I don’t know about smarter but perhaps more reasonable. My lawyer status automatically disqualifies me as a reasonable person. I just hope our party doesn’t nominate the extremely compassionate conservative (i.e. liberal) Mike Huckabee.

Seriously: WHO HERE has been polled?
Not I
Ugly on December 19, 2007 at 12:48 AM
There’s an idea for a poll: who has been?
Ugly on December 19, 2007 at 12:49 AM
I’ve never been called to do a poll. Not once.
Bad Candy on December 19, 2007 at 12:52 AM
not me (Texas-don’t expect to be).
Limerick on December 19, 2007 at 12:52 AM
Nor I in Arizona (do they call mobile phones?).

I hope that both extremists are stricken from the record and the party agrees to a plea deal by settling for Fred or Mitt, preferably Fred.

I get polled by Zogby.
baldilocks on December 19, 2007 at 1:00 AM
That sounds dirty. ;-) Let me rephrase: I participate in Zogby polls.

Due to a copyright claim by Joe Walsh, I was unable to dedicate an entire you-tube vid to you. However, if you would click this link and turn up your sound for a few seconds, I would be most obliged.

State issues plenty. National issues zero.

You and BKennedy and no one else.
We didn’t miss your noticeable absence in these threads either, but the way.
MadisonConservative on December 19, 2007 at 1:06 AM
Well there’s that. :-)

The traffic count is about to go through the roof.

while Huckabee hurls brimstone at the crowd?
Ow, my eye!
Bad Candy on December 19, 2007 at 1:17 AM
If any. Any. of these clowns, foreign or domestic, contrive to interfere with my Christmas, anniversary, or New Years, I will be sure to let you know with extra posts here on HA.

Can we get a poll on hotair?
I would bet that Fred Thompson would win it.
msipes on December 19, 2007 at 2:20 AM
He mentions Cato, and his wife has praised David Horowitz.
Cool.

REDSTATE endorses Fred Thompson for President.
Redstate articulates a synopsis per candidate,
culminating with Fred, the winner.
Go, Fred!

He didn’t get in in time for the straw poll, and he hasn’t campaigned in Iowa. We’ll see if he can shake enough hands in the next two weeks to pull it off.
Gianni on December 19, 2007 at 3:08 AM
I would have to answer my phone for that to happen. I doubt I’m the only one that doesn’t answer their phones for unknown calls. Thats one of the reasons these polls mean nothing.
Gianni on December 19, 2007 at 3:12 AM
I think in a ‘perfect world’ where Duncan Hunter got the recognition that he deserves, 80% of us Hot Air folks would be rooting for him. But Yeah, I think that a poll here would show Fred as a slight, but clear leader.
LegendHasIt on December 19, 2007 at 4:27 AM
