Finished the video. It was the same (or nearly the same) as Huck’s Foreign Affairs article which I had read earlier this week. I also read VDH’s commentary on the Foreign Affairs article.

I thought the speech was OK as far as it went. I don’t have a problem reaching out to Iran. We are doing it anyway. They will rebuff us anyway because they think they are winning the political war, but it could help us with our propaganda war (which we are losing miserably). Anyway, I don’t see anything so outrageous in the speech to turn off the general run of the mill Republican.

maverick, do you have a Fred Dalton Thompson shrine built at your house yet? I assume you joking a bit but sometimes its a little tough to tell. Fred’s a good man. He’s a smart man. He’s not a lazy man. He would be easy for me to support as the Republican nominee. But he doesn’t come without flaws. His orgainization and competence has been rightfully called into question. He lied to us about Spencer Abraham (for reasons that escape me). I think when all is said and done he is going to make a fine VP selection.

ptolemy, I think you are right but it would only matter if people took the time to watch this disaster of a foreign policy speech and honestly think about what he is saying. The percentage of voters that will listen to more then a 3 second soundbite from this will probably be about 1% – if that.

The last thing America needs is an officially religious Christian president leading the war on terror. No matter what Christians or Americans in general think, that war on terror would blow up a million times over with an official “Christian” or Mormon leading what the world and opponents will recognize as America’s own holy war rather than just a war against terror–feeding the fire, “balancing” or legitimizing the Islamic radicals in THEIR minds and the mouths of bleeding heart liberals.

The guy is ignorant, naive, and desrespectful towards our commander-in-chief to boot.

The president is big enough to take the criticism. It comes with job, whether he is working on immigration reform or pursuing the surge.

There is more room for the candidates to move away from Bush’s record on some issues, such as spending.

Not exactly. Zetterson and I have been hashing over that Rasmussen poll over in Headlines, and none of the candidates’ bases (defined as those that won’t switch) top the 12% of those that refused to name a candidate at all.

Yes, yes we have. Steve is right. This Romney bump has unfortunately come at Fred’s expense rather then the Huckster’s. I would much rather have seen Fred and Mitt rise together both at Huck’s expense. Alas, the Huck’s numbers have held steady. Mitt’s caught up and Fred has lost support.

So Mr. Huckabee gets proof that OBL is in the 4700 block of Ronald Reagan street, Quetta, PAK. The man who pardoned convicted criminals out of compassion and a sense of ‘fair play’ is going to order the 4700 block of Ronald Reagan street turned into a gravel pit? Or is he going to phone up the United Nations and ask for suggestions?

Does he think Bush has them all mapped out and is simply too gutless to send drones in to do the work?

There’s some argument to be made here. If Spurlock in fact did find Bin Laden then there’s a HUGE case to be made here.
