Finally: Modeling agency for ugly people open for business in NYC

posted at 10:13 pm on December 17, 2007 by Allahpundit

Reuters covered the London branch back in October. And now my dream’s come true.

The tryout’s on Friday. If all goes well I’ll have that iPhone by Christmas morn. Meanwhile, take a look at some of the models. Exit question: Are they using “ugly” ironically?

Blowback

Sorry, the big ugly modelling doesn’t work for me,
unless it’s a BUFF,B-52.

And always remember:

Beauty is skin deep, but Ugly is right to the bone!hehe

Every one of those models radiates vivid personality and character. The beautiful models can make you stop and stare, but these folks make you want to stop and get to know them!

Allah, in order to model, people have to see your face. :-)

Not if you’re a hand model.

Ugly people are now trendy?

Let’s give credit where credit is due.

MSNBC has been way ahead of the curve on this one.

I know I do. I’m a handsome fancy gentleman with fists of justice and lips of pure delight.

Hey, it shouldn’t count when you make yourself ugly on purpose.

Bob's Kid on December 17, 2007 at 10:36 PM

I am so there! It’s about time I started making extra money.

What good would AllahPundit’s hands be for modeling…what with the fingers typed down to the bone, and all.

I would have figured for the text AP would use a voice-recognition program to save all the typing, but when he said he sounded like that NYC councilman – well he probably couldn’t get one with an 8 sec delay:)

At last, a place for the dirty smelly hippies (boomer libs) to GET A JOB.

petefrt on December 17, 2007 at 11:30 PM

Ummm, most of those people aren’t ugly at all. The British sure get it–they have some seriously ugly models. But if the American ugly modeling agency thinks those people are ugly, everyone I know is a freaking troll.

They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.

True. Check out Snaggletooth.

Ugly on December 18, 2007 at 12:15 AM

To clarify, there were a few in the video clip that I’d classify as ugly (but not all of them). However, if you look at the agency’s link–which is what I was actually referring to–the roster of head shots is just normal-looking people to me. Not unattractive at all for the most part.

aero on December 18, 2007 at 12:18 AM

They’re not me. Trust me, I would be rejected out of hand.

Until they had sex with me. Then they’d be at the mercy of ugly sex. And we all know that Ugly sex is best.

/okay I’m done
//ugly, wasn’t it

Ugly on December 18, 2007 at 12:23 AM

You’d be rejected because you’re too pretty for the ugly modeling agency, or because you’re too ugly even for them? ;-)

BTW, when I said I’d classify some of the people in the video as ugly, I meant that if I objectively evaluated them based on our society’s standards of beauty, I’d be forced to classify them as unattractive. I didn’t mean I personally found them to be ugly. I honestly don’t think I’d give any of them a second look if I passed them on a city street. Again, there were some crazy-ugly people in the British ugly models clip. These folks–not so much.

Well, it doesn’t matter online, baby! The internet is the great equalizer. :-) And seriously, I personally do not recoil from people who fall short of the incredibly high and sometimes twisted standards of “beauty” society tries to impose on us. I have honestly been in situations in which I’m looking at a stranger in the mall or something, thinking how beautiful and happy the person looks, only to have someone comment on how unattractive or plain or fat they think the same person is. It’s a shock to me every time something like that happens. I don’t know why I don’t see “ugliness” the same way other people do without objectifying people’s appearances from an analytical point of view. But there you have it. I hope my kids are learning from me to look at people without such harsh judgment, too. Life is more fun that way, I’ve found.

Take from that what you will :P

I see a future job possibility here for Hillary when she loses the nomination.

bopbottle on December 18, 2007 at 5:43 AM

!

If I had any idea such a thing did not already exist, I would have tried to create one! Stupid assumptions!

There’s such an obvious market for it, and not just in modeling but in any visual media. You don’t always want your representative to look like a perfect pretty thing.

Informally, this is done in films, usually, sadly, by seeking “interesting” (ugly) faces for villains, but sometimes for heroes or extras or whatever.

Merovign on December 18, 2007 at 6:15 AM

Harumph, second link has some broke-ass flash coding. Foos!

Would have been better to say “not pretty” than ugly. Or some longer combination of words.

Merovign on December 18, 2007 at 6:17 AM

What’s new about this? There has always been a place for “interesting” types out there. You might want some superhot underwear model for a Victoria’s Secret ad but that doesn’t sell depends or denture cream to old people!
If anything, it appears you can now purchase all your “ugly” in one place.

highhopes on December 18, 2007 at 8:15 AM

If you look at the descriptions when yo click on the pictures, the models don’t fit the standards of those who would typically be modeling. Along with the looks, models have to be at least 5’8″ and have certain proportions. One of the women that I clicked on the site was 5’4″.

ScoopPC11 on December 18, 2007 at 8:19 AM

I thought the ‘goggle jacket’ was the ugly model’s dream. Ugly people can model the burka for boys all they want and people would never know.

ThackerAgency on December 18, 2007 at 8:50 AM

“There’s always a place for Victoria’s Secret girls in their underwear in every man’s life…”

Yes, but for some men, they have to find a new hiding place for them whenever it’s time to flip the mattress.
